We decided to start and finish our trip in Denver just because we don't want to pay the drop off... Leaving Moab we immediately turn right into UT128, a scenic bway that let us live for few moments more the magic of the south-west. Close to us there is the Colorado River ...
Le nostre intenzioni erano quelle di fermarci, non appena entrati in Colorado, in una delle rinomate località delle Rocky Mountains (per intenderci Vail, Beaver Creek) e rilassarci alle terme, ma purtroppo con il volo anticipato all'una del mattino tutti i nostri piani sono andati in frantumi. Via dunque dritto verso Denver...
Our intentions were to stop, as soon as entered in Colorado, at one of the beautiful places of the Rocky Mountains (for example Vail, Beaver Creek...) and relax at the spa, but unfortunately with the flight early in the morning all our plans were destroyed. Then straight to Denver ...
... anche se, dopo aver pranzato in un tipico diner, qualche sfizio ce lo togliamo. O meglio se lo toglie l'Ale, dato che ci fermiamo nel carinissimo outlet di Silverthorne (un'ora e mezza a ovest di Denver). E che shopping sia!
Even if, after having lunch in a diner, we recover with a lot of shopping at Silverthorne Outlet, just one hour west of Denver.
Nel tardo pomeriggio siamo a Denver, denominata mile high city perchè interamente posizionata un miglio sopra il livello del mare. E, con il fatto che la notte successiva la spenderemo tra aereo ed aereoporto, questa ce la siamo giocata a davvero bene. Scovando sul "solito" www.hotels.com uno splendido bed and breakfast... anzi molto di più, un castello del 1800, posizionato ad un paio di chilometri da downtown in una zona residenziale dove varrebbe davvero la pena vivere...
In the late afternoon we are in Denver, called the mile high city because entirely located one mile above sea level. And, because of the fact that we are going to spend the next night between airplane and airport, this time we are threating ourserlves very very well. Searching out on the internet, thanks to www.hotels.com, we have found a wonderful bed and breakfast ... no, no, no, more than a bed and breakfast: it's a castle, built during 19th century and located a couple of miles from downtown in a residential area where it would really worth living ...
Che dire, un'esperienza magnifica. Sin dai primi minuti ci sentiamo, seppure un po' in soggezione, catapultati indietro nel tempo, con la ragazza della reception che ci accompagna in camera raccontandoci la storia di questo castello.
What can we say, a great experience. From the first momentwe feel catapulted back in time, with the receptionist that accompanies us in the room telling the history of this castle.
Ma non è finita qui, alle 5 viene servito il thè con buonissimi dolci fatti in casa. Davvero non vorremmo andar più via...
But it's not over yet!. At 5 pm it's tea time, with delicious home made biscuits! We really don't want to leave this place.
Conosciamo i padroni di casa che, ovviamente, sono super. Louie, il capo famiglia, è splendido: passerà con noi l'intera serata raccontandoci tantissime cose, dei suoi viaggi in Italia, dei film che produce...un consiglio, se mai capiterete a Denver una notte al Castle Marne non può mancare.
We meet the two hosts, of course they are very kind. Louie, the head of the family, is wonderful: he spends the entire evening telling us many things, about his travels in Italy, the movies he produces ... an advice, if you ever be in Denver, one night at Castle Marne will be a "must".
Siamo anche fortunati, visto che il locale che abbiamo scelto per la cena è a due passi dal castello: non poteva mancare, infatti, in questo viaggio il primo "man vs food" al Cherry Cricket, con la bellissima sorpresa finale del mega sconto perchè... i piatti avevano tardato di 10 minuti ad arrivare. Da non credere!! E, mentre lasciamo il locale, sentiamo la cameriera dire al collega "they are coming from Italy because of Man Vs Food, they are so cute!!!" non possiamo che sorridere...
We are even lucky, because the restaurant we want to go to is really close to the Castle. Tonight will be a "man vs food" night at the Cherry Cricket, with the wonderful surprise at the end of the meal, a huge discount because dishes has arrived at the table 10 minutes later. We can't believe it!!! And, as we are leaving the restaurant, we hear the waitress says to her colleague, "they are coming from Italy Because of Man Vs Food, they are so cute !!!" we can just smile ...
La mattina successiva, alle 8.30, ci viene offerta la colazione. Sembra davvero di essere a corte: siamo noi e altre due coppie... e la tavola imbandita. Ci viene offerto di tutto, una delle colazioni più affascinanti di sempre: caffè, succo d'arancia fresco, quiche con salsine fatte in casa, muffin appena sfornati..il tutto servito direttamente dai proprietari! Ci siamo sentiti come un re ed una regina!
Purtroppo però è anche l'ultimo giorno e, dopo aver fatto il check out, facciamo una visita alla downtown.
The next morning, at 8:30, it's breakfast time. It really seems to be in the 19th century: it's us and two other couples ... and the table set. It is offered to all of us one of the most charming breakfast ever: coffee, fresh orange juice, quiche with homemade sauces, muffins just baked... all served directly by the owners! We felt like a king and queen! Unfortunately it is also the last day, and after checking out, we visit downtown.
Downtown che si riduce sostanzialmente alla 16th street Mall, una via lunga, lunghissima e pedonale, caratterizzata da ristoranti e negozi. Non preoccupatevi, a disposizione c'è una navetta che vi porterà avanti e indietro ogni qualvolta lo vogliate.
Downtown which substantially is the 16th Street Mall, a long, long pedestrian road with restaurants and shops. Do not worry, there is a free shuttle that take you up and donw whenever you want.
Denver è molto carina, ma non aspettatevi granchè da questa 16th street. Una passeggiata però è doverosa.
Downtown Denver is very pretty, but do not expect anything special from this 16th street. A walk along this road, however, is a must.
il tempo vola e, dopo aver visitato un paio di centri commerciali e cenato nel mitico TGI Friday's (finalmente l'abbiam trovato) con una bistecca al Jack Daniels ed un mega panino...
Time flies and, after a quick stop at two malls and eaten the last burger and the last steak with jack daniels sauce at TGI Friday's...
...non possiamo far altro che dirigerci all'aereoporto di Denver, dove tra qualche ora (all'una di notte), partirà il nostro volo per Miami, da dove (dopo un'attesa di quasi otto ore), voleremo verso Milano. Non lo neghiamo, sarà pesantissima questa giornata, ma per la nostra America questo e altro...
.. we can just go to the Denver airport, where in a few hours (1 am), we will fly to Miami, where (after a wait of nearly eight hours), and then to Milan . A tough day, but for our America we can do this and more...
