Il vecchio selvaggio e bollente Southwest. Dopo la California, la East Coast, il Texas ed il Nuovo Mexico, Chicago e, lo scorso anno, la "Real America", un altro capolavoro di madre natura accompagnerà il nostro viaggio, il settimo negli Stati Uniti. Nei primi undici giorni del nostro trip a stelle e strisce percorreremo 3500 chilometri nel southwest, partendo dal bollente confine messicano di Tucson (mi raccomando la pronuncia, "Tuson"!) sino ad arrivare nella "sin city" di Las Vegas attraversando quelli che comunemente vengono definiti "i grandi parchi" (Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon...). Probabilmente, anzi sicuramente, il più bello tra gli "on the road" che abbiamo effettuato, più ancora del "Texas & New Mexico" del 2013 che, fino ad oggi si posizionava davanti a tutti nel nostro indice di gradimento.
The old wild and hot Southwest. After California, East Coast, Texas and New Mexico, Chicago and, last year, the "Real America", another mother nature's beauty is going to accompany our journey, the seventh in the United States. In the first eleven days of our stars and stripes trip we will travel 3,500 miles in the southwest, starting from Tucson and the hot Mexican border till the "sin city" of Las Vegas through those that are commonly defined "the great parks" (Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon ...). Certainly the most beautiful "on the road" we've ever done, even more beautiful than the 2013 "Texas & New Mexico" which has been our favourite one till now.
Ve lo racconteremo, come sempre, nel dettaglio, tra avventure (tante) e le solite disavventure che come sempre accompagnano i nostri viaggi, cercando come è da sempre nostra intenzione, di essere d'aiuto nel caso vogliate intraprendere un'avventura simile negli Stati Uniti. Ricordatevi che fa caldo e due regole vanno sempre rispettate: l'acqua non deve mai mancare (sia in auto che nei trails), così come la benzina nel serbatoio.

Don't forget that it's very hot and two rules must be followed: bring a lot of water with you (into the car and while hiking) and always check the fuel in the tank.

QUALCHE INFO PRIMA DI PARTIRE - SOME INFOS BEFORE LEAVING
VOLI - FLIGHTS
Trovato un Lussemburgo - New York (via Londra) a 450 non ce lo siamo lasciati sfuggire, complice il fatto che Luxair, la compagnia aerea nazionale lussemburghese fornisca la tratta Milano-Lussemburgo a 80 euro. Non è certamente "comodo" (sono sostanzialmente due giorni di voli), ma non è la comodità che cerchiamo in un viaggio del genere. Tralasciamo i costi dei voli interni per diversi motivi: in primis perchè abbiamo acquistato un volo con le miglia accumulate, e poi perchè lasciata Las Vegas non siam tornati direttamente a New York per poi rientrare in Italia, ma abbiamo raggiunto alcuni amici ad Orlando prima e Boston poi. Interessante invece il costo del bus Greyhound, compagnia che copre l'intero suolo statunitense. Il tratto Boston - New York (4 ore e 30) ci è costato 11 dollari.
We couldn't miss the Luxembourg - New York (through London) for 450 euros, especially because Luxair (the Luxemburg national airline) is connecting Milan to Luxemburg (80 euros). It is certainly not "comfortable" (we spent 2 days flying), but it's not the comfort the thing we are looking for in a trip like this. We won't talk about the cost of domestic flights for several reasons: firstly because we purchased a flight with our miles earned, and then beacuse we left Las Vegas and didn't directly returned to New York and then to Italy. We actually joined some friends in Orlando and then in Boston. Interestingly however is the cost of the Greyhound bus, the company that covers the entire US soil. We found the stretch Boston - New York (4 hours and 30) for just $ 11.
FUSO ORARIO - TIME ZONE
Mentre l'Arizona, che ha caratterizzato gran parte del nostro viaggio, il Nevada e la California viaggiano a -9 ore dall'Italia, varcato il confine con lo Utah le ore di differenza diventano 8. Ricordatevi dunque che se nel vostro programma di viaggio siano coinvolti Bryce Canyon e Zion, di spostare avanti o indietro le lancette.
While Arizona, where we have been for most of the time, Nevada and California are -9 hours behind italian time zone, as soon as you cross the Utah, hours become 8. So remember to check the time if you're planning to visit also Bryce Canyon and Zion in an Arizona trip.
HOTEL
Alloggiare nei parchi non è mai economico, ma ovviamente vi permette un maggior contatto con il parco stesso. Pernottare fuori consente di risparmiare, ma siamo comunque su prezzi esagerati: non vi spaventate allora se una camera a Phoenix allo Sheraton costi 43 dollari ed un motel 6 a Page più di 100. Il budget per i costi fissi di un viaggio nell'ovest degli Stati Uniti "fai da te" di 15 giorni non supera i 1500 euro (voli, noleggio dell'auto, motel, pass annuale per i parchi). Il resto, come sempre, dipende da voi...
Lodging inside the parks is never cheap, but obviously allows greater contact with the nature. Staying outside the park is cheaper, but prices are still inflated: so, don't be afraid if a room at the Sheraton in Phoenix costs $ 43 and a motel 6 in Page more than $ 100. The budget you need for fixed costs for a 15 days trip in Western United States built "on you own" does not exceed 1,500 euros (flights, car rental, motel, annual parks pass).
