Tra tutti gli itinerari possibili sparsi negli Stati Uniti,
nessuno regge il confronto con la "mitica" Route 66, perchè questa è
l' America più pura, più genuina.
E' l'America del Grande sogno Americano, la strada che
attraversarono migliaia di persone verso la California alla ricerca dell' El
Dorado, della ricchezza.
La Route 66 è libertà di viaggiare attraverso spazi
sterminati, non importa per arrivare dove, ma certi di aver sempre qualcosa di
nuovo da scoprire, curva dopo curva...
E’ il viaggio dei viaggi, il road trip per eccellenza, la
mitica strada madre. The Mother Road, che da più di 80 anni scalda i cuori di
quanti desiderano percorrerla, anche solo per un tratto
Una vecchia lingua d’asfalto lunga quasi 4000 km, sorta nel
1926 durante le grandi carestie che colpirono le pianure del Midwest per
collegare Chicago con l’abbagliante California, terra promessa di quanti
partivano alla ricerca di un lavoro e di una vita migliore.
La Route 66 parte dal profondo nord, nel Grant Park, sulle
sponde del lago Michigan a Chicago (Illinois) e attraversa ben 8 stati (Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona e California) e dopo
ben 3 fusi orari, termina sul molo di Santa Monica in California.
E' stata la prima strada pavimentata a collegare l' Est con
l'Ovest degli USA, da circa 20 anni è stata cancellata dagli stradari e dagli
atlanti, poichè sostituita dalle moderne Highway da 5 o 6 corsie. Rimangono
tuttavia tratti e luoghi da poter visitare, luoghi che hanno un fascino del
tutto particolare, dove il tempo sembra essersi fermato, e dove l'atmosfera ha
qualcosa di "particolare".
Col passare del tempo la Route 66 é divenuta
nell’immaginario collettivo il simbolo del viaggio stesso sulla strada, nella
più totale libertà, lungo un percorso in cui tutto può accadere, alla scoperta
della vera America, quella che ormai si fa fatica a trovare nelle grandi città,
quella dei piccoli centri, delle insegne al neon, delle tavole calde, delle
pompe di benzina, dei pancakes con lo sciroppo d’acero, della vita che scorre
lenta lungo una vecchia strada ormai in disuso.

The route 66 is an old long tongue of asphalt 2448 miles long, built in 1926 during the great famine that hit the Midwest: it connects Chicago with the dazzling California, the promised land of those who departed in search of a job and a better life.
The Route 66 starts from the far north, in Grant Park, on the shores of Lake Michigan, in Chicago (Illinois) and crosses 8 states (Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California) and 3 time zones, ending at the Santa Monica Pier in California.
It has been the first paved road that connected the East with the West of the USA: It has been canceled by the street maps and atlases almost 20 yeard ago and replaced by modern Highway with 5 or 6 lanes. However, there are still stretches and places to explore, places that have a special charm and where the atmosphere has something "special."
As time goes on Route 66 has become a symbol of the trip on the road, in complete freedom, along a path in which anything can happen, while discovering the real America: of small towns, neon signs, diners, petrol pumps, pancakes with maple syrup, where life that flows slowly along an old road now abandoned...
After months and months of study, maps purchased directly from the United States, books read (on the best one is "Adventure handbook" by Knowles) and decisions taken, we are finally ready to hit the most famous route in the world.
