Con il ritorno a Calgary, dove eravamo già stati, ma solo di passaggio, qualche giorno prima, si conclude anche l'avventura, splendida, nell'ovest del Canada, un viaggio rimandato più volte per via del covid-19 ma che poi ha saputo ripagare la lunga ed estenuante attesa. L'ultima giornata spesa interamente in quel di Calgary sa tanto di ultimo giorno di scuola e, purtroppo, a vincere è stata soprattutto la malinconia per l'imminente ritorno a casa insieme alla stanchezza per le fatiche di questo splendido viaggio. Ridendo e scherzando, infatti, se doveste seguire i nostri consigli, arrivereste a percorrere circa 225 km (!) a piedi...
With the return to Calgary, which we had already been a few days earlier but only in passing, the amazing adventure in the west of Canada also comes to an end. A trip postponed several times because of the covid-19 but which then has been able to repay the long and exhausting wait. The last day spent entirely in that of Calgary smacks so much of the last day of school, and, unfortunately, it was mostly the melancholy of the upcoming return home that won out along with the fatigue and the tiredness of this incredible trip. That's the truth, because if you were to follow our advice, you would get to walk about 225 km (!)...
Eppure Calgary meriterebbe più attenzione perchè non è affatto male, nonostante questa importante "città nella prateria" sia ancora oggi vista soltanto come ricca ma economicamente precaria, moderna ma non sempre bella, vivibile ma spesso e volentieri anonima. Sono in tanti a preferirle la relativamente vicina Edmonton, perchè solitamente chi passa da queste parti è quasi sempre qui per affari (e che affari) o è semplicemente di passaggio verso le bellezze naturali dell'Alberta. Eppure Calgary ha parecchio da offrire e no, non stiamo pensando solamente al rodeo più importante al mondo (il Calgary Stampede) o al suo spirito olimpico: Calgary merita per tanti motivi, anche e soprattutto per la sua vivace scena notturna, per i suoi bellissimi ristoranti, per la qualità della vita e molto, molto altro...
Yet Calgary deserves more attention because it is not bad at all, despite the fact that this important "city on the prairie" is still only seen as wealthy but economically precarious, modern but not always beautiful, livable but often and often anonymous. So many people prefer the relatively nearby Edmonton, because usually those who pass through Calgary are almost always here on business or are simply passing through on their way to the natural beauty of Alberta. Yet Calgary has quite a lot to offer, and no, we're not just thinking about the world's premier rodeo (the Calgary Stampede) or its Olympic spirit: Calgary worth a visit for so many reasons, including and especially for its vibrant nightlife scene, its beautiful restaurants, its quality of life, and much, much more...

Se in voi c'è la curiosità di scoprire quale fosse l'aspetto della Calgary di 100 anni fa, il "Heritage Park Historical Village", situato una manciata di km a sud della città, è davvero il posto che fa per voi. In questo bellissimo parco lo scenario è completamente diverso dalla Calgary odierno, ogni edificio risale al massimo al 1910 ed all'interno dei suoi 10 ettari troverete davvero un autentico spaccato della Calgary che fu, tra forti, mulini, chiese, scuole e molto altro. E non manca di certo il divertimento, con treni panoramici, mini crociere lungo il Glenmore Reservoir e diverse giostre. Se c'è un luogo dove passare una giornata all'insegna della storia e del divertimento, questo è proprio l'Heritage Park Historical Village (ingresso: 14.95 dollari, aggiornato al 2022).

If there is a curiosity in you to find out what Calgary looked like 100 years ago, the "Heritage Park Historical Village," located a handful of miles south of the city, is really the place for you. In this beautiful park the scenery is completely different from today's Calgary, every building dates back to 1910 at the latest, and within its 10 hectares you will really find an authentic glimpse of the Calgary's story, including forts, mills, churches, schools and more. And there is no shortage of entertainment, with scenic trains, mini cruises along Glenmore Reservoir and various rides. If there is any place to spend a day of history and fun, that is definitely the Heritage Park Historical Village (admission: $14.95, updated to 2022).
COME VISITARE L'HERITAGE PARK HISTORICAL VILLAGE
Durante la stagione estiva, che va dal 22 maggio al 6 settembre (ovvero il momento in cui abbiamo visitato il parco), l'Heritage Park Historical Village si compone di tre aree, il parco si compone di tre aree distinte:

HOW TO VISIT HERITAGE PARK HISTORICAL VILLAGE
During the summer season, which runs from May 22 to September 6 (i.e., the time we visited the park), the Heritage Park Historical Village consists of three distinct areas:
- 1860s Fur Trading Fort and First Nations Encampment
- 1880s Pre-railway Settlement
- c.1910s Prairie Railway Town
Ognuna di queste aree che rappresentano un'era della Calgary che fu. Tra le cose più divertenti che potrete fare ve ne segnaliamo qualcuna: su tutte salire su un carro trainato dai cavalli e visitare l'intero parco, o in alternativa salire a bordo di un autentico treno a vapore. O ancora sulla S.S. Moye che vi porterà in giro per il Glenmore Reservoir.
Each of these areas representing an era of Calgary Some of the most fun things you can do, include the following: boarding a horse-drawn wagon and touring the entire park, or alternatively boarding an authentic steam train. Or even on the S.S. Moye that will take you around Glenmore Reservoir.
All'ingresso del parco troverete la Heritage Town Square, che comprende diversi negozi, due ristoranti (il Railway Cafe ed il più sofisticato Selkirk). Una volta entrati nel cuore dell'Heritage Park ad attendervi ci sarà invece il villaggio, che raffigura la vita com'era dal 1860 agli anni '30. Gli interpreti in costume aiutano a raccontare la storia dell'Ovest canadese. E infine c’è il Il Gasoline Alley Museum, un museo al coperto a due livelli che racconta la storia dell'automobile e presenta una rara collezione di veicoli d'epoca, pompe di benzina, segnaletica e altro ancora.
At the entrance to the park visitors will find the Heritage Town Square, which includes several stores, two restaurants (the Railway Cafe and the more sophisticated Selkirk). Once you enter the heart of Heritage Park you'll notice the village, which depicts life as it was from the 1860s to the 1930s. Costumed interpreters help tell the story of the Canadian West. And finally there is The Gasoline Alley Museum, a two-level indoor museum that tells the story of the automobile and features a rare collection of vintage vehicles, gasoline pumps, signs and more.

Calgary's Downtown is special because it can also be explored within a network of corridors elevated above the street level that connect buildings and neighborhoods together, protecting residents and tourists from the winter cold and ice. Here are our top 5 "things to see in Calgary."
1) Prince’s island park
Attraversate il ponte per raggiungere questo parco situato su un’isola nel cuore di Calgary. L'isola ha una superficie di 20 ettari ed è collegata da tre ponti al downtown di Calgary.
2) Olympic plaza
Cuore pulsante di downtown è l'Olympic Plaza, una piazza che simboleggia lo spirito Olimpico di Calgary, che nel 1988 ospitò i giochi olimpici invernali. Durante i mesi estivi la troverete decisamente affollata, e non mancheranno artisti di strada e bancarelle ad allietare la giornata dei presenti. Poco distante spicca la Famous Five Statues, una scultura in onore dei diritti delle donne. Sembra inverosimile ma, negli atti costitutivi del Canada, il diritto ad essere considerate persone e quindi essere eletti in Senato, era limitato ai soli uomini. La petizione di queste cinque donne fu accolta solamente nel 1929.
1) Prince's island park.
Cross the bridge to reach this park located on an island in the heart of Calgary. The island is 20 hectares in size and is connected by three bridges to downtown Calgary.
2) Olympic plaza
The beating heart of downtown is the Olympic Plaza, a square that symbolizes the Olympic spirit of Calgary, which hosted the 1988 Winter Olympic Games. During the summer months it is decidedly crowded, and there will be no shortage of street performers and stalls to brighten the day for those in attendance. Nearby stands out the Famous Five Statues, a sculpture honoring women's rights. It seems far-fetched but, in Canada's founding acts, the right to be considered persons, and thus to be elected to the Senate, was limited to men only. The petition of these five women was not granted until 1929.
3) Calgary Tower
Costruita nel1968, la Calgary Tower (prezzo 18 dollari, aggiornato al 2022) è uno dei simboli della città, anche se oggi non è più l'edificio più alto di Calgary. Alta 191 metri, un tempo era davvero considerata avveniristica in quanto, dalla sommità consente di ammirare un bel panorama sui territori circostanti. In cima della torre, che l'anno prossimo (2023) festeggerà i suoi 55 anni, troverete anche un ristorante girevole. La Calgary Tower offre in particolari momenti dell'anno inoltre uno scenografico spettacolo di luci LED ogni mattina prima dell'alba e ogni sera dal tramonto a mezzanotte.
3) Calgary Tower
Built in1968, the Calgary Tower (price $18, updated to 2022) is one of the symbols of the city, although today it is no longer the tallest building in Calgary. At 191 meters tall, it was once truly considered futuristic in that, from the top, it allows a beautiful view of the surrounding territories. At the top of the tower, which will celebrate its 55th birthday next year (2023), you will also find a revolving restaurant. Calgary Tower also offers at particular times of the year a spectacular LED light show every morning before sunrise and every evening from sunset to midnight.
3) The bow
The bow è un grattacielo dall’aspetto avveniristico che prende il nome dal Bow River, fiume che attraversa il centro di Calgary. Davanti all’ingresso non si può non notare la Wonderland Sculpture, alta ben 12 metri e che rappresenta il volto di una ragazza.
4) Stephen Avenue Walk
Situata dietro la Calgary Tower, la Stephen Avenue Walk è probabilmente il vero cuore pulsante dell'intero downtown di Calgary. Si tratta di una caratteristica strada pedonale molto ben curata, ricca di fiori appesi ai lampioni; qui troverete ristoranti, vecchi edifici sedi di banche riutilizzati come locali, negozi di souvenir.
3) The bow
The bow is a futuristic-looking skyscraper named after the Bow River, a river that runs through downtown Calgary. In front of the entrance, one cannot fail to notice the Wonderland Sculpture, a full 12 meters tall and depicting the face of a girl.
4) Stephen Avenue Walk
Located behind the Calgary Tower, the Stephen Avenue Walk is probably the real beating heart of the entire downtown Calgary. It is a quaint, well-maintained pedestrian street full of flowers hanging from lampposts; here you will find restaurants, old bank buildings reused as clubs, and souvenir stores.
5) Big Rock Brewery
Non lontano da downtown, non dimenticatevi di fare visita alla Big Rock Brewery, la birreria più famosa dell'Alberta.. Tra le loro “signature” segnaliamo la Traditional Ale, la Royal Coachman, la Canvasback Ale, la Mcnally’s extra, la Rhine Stone Cowboy, la Honey Brown Lager, la Session Ipa e la Warthog Ale.
