Vi abbiamo portato a spasso per la Provenza, tra i suoi colori, i suoi vivacissimi borghi e una natura incantevole. Ma quando si parla di questa magnifica regione non ci si può dimenticare di sua maestà... la lavanda che, soprattutto nei mesi estivi da icona provenzale diventa la principale attrazione turistica. Tutti alla caccia del viola più bello e dello scatto perfetto che poi diventerà l'immagine principale del viaggio. Sì, ma dove si trovano i migliori campi di lavanda in Provenza? La risposta è semplice: Valensole ed il suo altopiano sono da sempre il volto viola della Provenza. Qui, infatti, si trovano i campi più belli, dove il contrasto tra il viola ed il giallo creano immagini da cartolina, motivo per il quale li abbiamo lasciati per ultimo (il meglio, si sa, si lascia sempre per la fine...), ovvero per la terza giornata, quella che ci riporterà a Milano...
Our tour of Provence, among its colors, lively villages and enchanting nature, is coming to an end. But when we talk about this magnificent region, we cannot forget her majesty... the lavender, which, especially in the summer months from a Provencal icon becomes the main tourist attraction. Everyone is on the hunt for the most beautiful purple and the perfect shot that will then become the main image of the trip. Well but where are the best lavender fields in Provence located? The answer is simple: Valensole and its plateau have always been the purple face of Provence. Here, in fact, you'll see the most beautiful fields, where the contrast between purple and yellow create postcard images, which is why we left them for last (last but not least...), that is, for the third day, the one that will take us back to Milan...

Prima di dirigerci verso l'Altopiano di Valensole, c'è ancora una cittadina che volevamo visitare, quella di Manosque, che nella ricchissima giornata precedente non avevamo avuto il tempo di ammirare. Con il suo centro storicoa forma di pera, numerosissime piazze e vecchie porte che un tempo ne permettevano l'accesso, Manosque non solo è la città più popolosa dell'intera Alta Provenza, ma una delle principali per quanto riguarda la coltivazione della vite (il vino Aoc Pierrevert è molto conosciuto) e dell'oliveto.
Before heading to the Valensole Plateau, there is one more town we wanted to visit, that of Manosque, which we couldn't admire during the very rich previous day. With its pear-shaped historic center, numerous squares and old gates that once allowed access, Manosque is not only the most populous town in the whole of Haute Provence, but one of the main ones in terms of vine cultivation (the Aoc Pierrevert wine is very well known) and olive groves.

Durante il tour a piedi di Manosque, tra le cose da vedere ci sono sicuramente le porte d'ingresso alla città, tra cui la più grande ed imponente, ovvero Porte de Soubeyran. Nel Medioevo, infatti, la città era protetta da bastioni e l'accesso era garantito da due porte, quella di Soubeyran e quella di Saunerie. La prima fu costruita nel XIV secolo e comandava, di fatto, l’ingresso in città. Da non perdere neppure la Chiesa di Notre-Dame-de-Romigier, con il suo altare in marmo di Carrara raffigurante gli apostoli e una Vergine nera, da sempre venerata dagli abitanti di Manosque.
On a walking tour of Manosque, among the things to see do not miss the gates to the city, including the largest and most imposing, namely Porte de Soubeyran. In the Middle Ages, in fact, the city was protected by ramparts and access was provided by two gates, Soubeyran and Saunerie. The former was built in the 14th century and commanded, in effect, the entrance to the city. Also not to be missed is the Church of Notre-Dame-de-Romigier, with its Carrara marble altar depicting the apostles and a black Virgin, which has always been venerated by the people of Manosque.

A circa 5 km dalla città troverete poi la fabbrica della famosissima Occitane en Provence, marchio di trattamenti cosmetici a base di olii essenziali e ingredienti naturali. L'azienda ed il negozio-museo sono aperti ai visitatori per far scoprire la produzione e la storia de L’Occitane en Provence, cominciata nel lontano 1976.
Located about 5 kilometers from the town, there's the factory of the world-famous Occitane en Provence, a brand of cosmetic treatments based on essential oils and natural ingredients. The company and the shop-museum are open to visitors to let them discover the production and history of L'Occitane en Provence, which began back in 1976.
I MIGLIORI CAMPI DI LAVANDA A VALENSOLE
Valensole da sempre significa... lavanda. E, arrivando da ovest, una volta entrati in questo meraviglioso altopiano rimarrete davvero senza fiato. Da metà giugno ai primi di agosto i campi di lavanda regalano il meglio di sé, uno spettacolo naturale con pochissimi eguali in tutto al mondo tanto da rendere Valensole e tutto il Plateau famoso in tutto il mondo. Ma dove trovare i migliori campi di lavanda di Valensole?
THE BEST LAVENDER FIELDS IN VALENSOLE
Valensole has always meant ... lavender. And, coming from the west, once visitors enter this beautiful plateau, well... they will be truly breathless. From mid-June to early August, the lavender fields are at their best, a natural spectacle with very few equals anywhere in the world-so much so that Valensole and the entire Plateau are world famous. But where to find the best lavender fields in Valensole?

Questo enorme altopiano, incuneato fra la città di Manosque e il Lago di Sainte-Croix, ancora prima delle scenografiche Gole del Verdon, vanta una serie impressionante di campi di lavanda e di girasole, uno al fianco dell'altro, creando di fatto un contrasto di colori davvero clamoroso. Dal viola della lavanda al giallo dei girasoli. I migliori campi di lavanda li troverete lungo la D56, all'incrocio con la D952, lungo la D6 e ancora percorrendo la D8.
This huge plateau, wedged between the town of Manosque and the Lake of Sainte-Croix, located even before the scenic Gorges du Verdon, boasts an impressive array of lavender and sunflower fields, side by side, effectively creating a truly striking contrast of colors. From the purple of the lavender to the yellow of the sunflowers. You will find the best lavender fields along the D56, at the intersection with the D952, along the D6, and again along the D8.
Scegliete voi quale strada percorrere per arrivare al borgo di Valensole, ogni occasione sarà quella buona per fermarsi, scendere dalla propria vettura ed avventurarsi nei campi di lavanda o fermarsi nei vari negozietti dove il viola è ovviamente il colore più rappresentato.
Just choose which road that will take you to the village of Valensole, any opportunity is a good one to stop, get out of your car and venture into the lavender fields or stop in the various little stores where purple is obviously the most represented color.
Ecco, l'unico consiglio che vi diamo è, nei mesi estivi, di evitare le ore centrali della giornata perchè troverete orde di turisti (in bus ed in auto) che vi impediranno di scattare foto in solitaria. Scegliete un buon orario, al mattino fino alle 10 o nel pre-serale dalle 17 in poi.
Here, the only advice we would like to give you is, in the summer months, to avoid the middle hours of the day because there will definitely be hordes of tourists (in buses and cars) that will prevent you from taking solo photos. Just choose a good time, in the morning until 10 a.m. or in late afternoon, from 5 p.m. onward.
Molti turisti poi, "persi" tra un campo di lavanda e l'altro, si dimenticano di visitare il vero e proprio villaggio di Valensole che invece, secondo noi, merita davvero una sosta. Troverete un'enorme fontana del 1700, negozi, bar e ristoranti in un bellissimo borgo costruito sulla collina e capace di regalare anche scorci bellissimi sull'altopiano circostante. L'attrazione principale, insieme alla fontana, è la Chiesa di Saint-Blaise, risalente al XI secolo, oltre ovviamente alle case del XVII secolo, tutte colorate e con il viola sempre grandissimo protagonista. E, sì, per qualche giorno sarà il colore più bello del mondo!
However, many tourists, "lost" between all the lavender fields, forget to visit the actual village of Valensole, which, on the other hand, in our opinion well worth a stop. You will find a huge fountain dating back to the 1700s, stores, bars and restaurants in a beautiful village built on the hillside and also capable of providing beautiful views of the surrounding plateau. The main attraction, along with the fountain, is the Saint-Blaise Church, dating back to the 11th century, as well as, of course, the 17th-century houses, all colorful and with purple always in the background And, yes, for a few days it will be the most beautiful color in the world!
