It 's time to leave Key West and spend the last days (5) in Miami. The reason why we are going to stay for 5 days in Miami is the Nba game on Christmas Day, otherwise we would have spent more days visiting other cities and just 2 or 3 days in Miami.

Lungo il tragitto che porta a Miami però ci sono ancora un paio di punti che meritano attenzione: qualcuno l'abbiamo visto durante il viaggio di andata, oggi la nostra agendina segna uno State Park ed un pub, due luoghi del tutto particolari, entrambi posizionati nel cuore delle isole Keys, a Big Pine Key.
Along the way that leads to Miami, however, there are still a few stops that we can't miss. Today in our agenda there are two places located in the heart of Florida Keys, in Big Pine Keys: the first one is a State Park, the second is a very weird pub.
Paghiamo l'entrata (8 dollari per veicolo) e siamo pronti a addentrarci nel Bahia Honda State Park.

Al primo bivio giriamo a destra perchè sappiamo esser lì il tratto della vecchia ferrovia.
In front of the first junction we turn right because our target is the section of the old railway
Questa sì che è davvero la vecchia ferrovia, lasciata così com'era ed inutilizzata. Neppure dai pescatori.
This is the real old railway as it once was. It's unused, even fishermen are not welcome.
Arriviamo fino al punto in cui non si può andare oltre, a distanza di una decina di metri il tratto di ferrovia proseguirebbe anche, ma ovviamente è off limits.
We get to the point where you can't go further: there is a metal fence and beyond this point just the sea. In the background another piece of the railroad...
Sotto di noi il mare, non poco lontano la highway 1.
The sea is huge, on the contrary the highway 1 in the backgrouund seems to be very small.
Se si è da queste parti non si può non fare una sosta.
If you are driving along the overseas highway a stop here is really a must.
Essendo uno State Park non mancano ovviamente né la flora e neppure la fauna: in particolare le farfalle sembrano essere a proprio agio in questo habitat. Ce ne sono davvero tantissime, non solo nel "butterfly garden".
As a State Park, Bahia Honda offers a lot of different vegetation and animals: in particular butterflies seem to be in their comfort zone. There are really a lot of butterflies around us, not only into the "butterfly garden".
Ma il Bahia Honda State Park è famoso per un altro motivo, per la sua spiaggia a ridosso della Highway 1 che, per chi è alla ricerca di un po' di vita di mare, è un "must".
Bahia Honda is even famous for another reason, for its beach close to the highway 1. If you are looking for a little bit of relax on the beach, this is one of the best place in the Keys.
Intendiamoci, è vero che probabilmente stiamo parlando della miglior "area-mare" delle Keys, ma siamo ben lontani dal mare caraibico e dalle spiagge finissime che qualcuno, sbagliando, a volte va aspettandosi. Se state cercando questo, evitate le Keys e andate a Cuba o in un'altra isola caraibica.
To be honest, it's true that this is the best beach, but this is absolutely not the caribbean paradise that someone mistakenly expect to find. If you are looking for this, go to Cuba or another caribbean island.
Qui c'è tanto, tantissimo, ma non quello a meno che siate disposti a fare l'escursione (con il battello) in quel del Dry Tortugas National Park, un'isola distante un centinaio di chilometri da Key West. Noi, con un solo giorno pieno a disposizione, abbiam preferito concentrarci su altro.
Here you can find so much but not caribbean beaches, unless you're willing to do an excusion (by boat) to the Dry Tortugas National Park (an island far a hundred miles from Key West). We had just one full day, so we didn't consider a day trip to this island.
Vorremmo restare qui sotto le palme, ma il dovere chiama e, per l'ora di pranzo, ci mettiamo alla caccia del No Name Pub. La leggenda vuole che questo pub sia molto difficile da raggiungere e, leggendo i vari diari di viaggio è qualcosa in più di una leggenda. Siamo un po' preoccupati, in realtà con un gps francamente non riusciamo a capire come sia possibile non trovarlo.
We would like to stay here under the palm trees, but it's almost lunch time and we have to go to the No Name Pub. Legend says that this pub is very difficult to find and, after reading some travel stories, you realize that this could be something more than a legend. We are a bit 'worried, actually with a gps you can't miss it. People who don't find it should buy a new gps.
Lungo la strada incontriamo tantissimi "key deer", i cervi di Key West e, finalmente, ecco comparire anche il No Name Pub che ci accoglie con un cartello che recita "you found it", l'avete trovato.
Along the road we meet many "key deer" and finally, even the No Name Pub. It welcomes us with the sign "you found it"...
Perchè siamo qui? No, non perchè non è comodo da raggiungere (che è una bugia!) e neppure per la mega pizza che dicono essere la specialità della casa, ma perchè questo locale è letteralmente tappezzato di banconote da un dollaro.
Why are we here? No, not beacuse it's not easy to find and we were looking for a difficult challenge, not beacuse their specialties is a huge pizza, but just beacuse this pub is literally carpeted by one dollar bills!
That's really unbelievable, never seen so much money in our entire life.
We order the 20inch pizza (half pepperoni, half mushrooms) and as a dessert....
...riceviamo pennarelli e graffettatrice.
...we receive markers and a staple gun.
E' il momento, anche il nostro dollaro finisce sul "dollar wall", il muro dei dollari.

Il No Name Pub era l'ultima fermata odierna, ora via veloci verso Miami. E' la vigilia di Natale, ma sembra un giorno come un altro. Optiamo per una cena fai da te con vista mare nel nostro hotel: budlight, un paio di salsine comprate al supermercato e altrettanti pacchetti di patatine. E, visto che sostanzialmente è stata una serata in cui, la cosa più interessante è stata fare il bucato (complice il brutto tempo), parliamo velocemente degli alloggi a Miami. Noi abbiamo scelto lo strategico Best Western nel North Bay Village (distante 7 chilometri da South Beach), già sperimentato durante il nostro primo viaggio in Florida. A Miami, ed in particolare a South Beach, gli hotel sono carissimi e noi continuiamo a credere che non abbia molto senso dormire a ridosso di Ocean Drive se avete a disposizione la macchina (il parcheggio silos a ridosso di Macy's e Lincoln Road è economicissimo) e soprattutto NON siete lì per fare mattino nei locali! Ma ovviamente è un parere del tutto personale e che tra l'altro va anche controcorrente rispetto a quella che è la normalità.
The No Name Pub was the last stop of the day, now it's time to go to Miami. It's Christmas Eve, but it seems to be a day like any other. We opt for a home made dinner ocean front in our hotel: budlight, a couple of sauces and chips bought at the supermarket. We don't have so much to tell about the evenimg, so we can talk quickly about lodging in Miami. We have chosen the strategic Best Western situated in North Bay Village (7 km away from South Beach), already experienced during our first trip to Florida. In Miami, and particularly in South Beach, hotels are very expensive and we still believe that it't better not to sleep close to Ocean Drive if you have a car (a parking lot close to Macy's and Lincoln Road is really cheaper) or if you are not interested in nightlife. But, of course, this is a very personal opinion that goes against what people usually do.
