Quando l'amore incondizionato dell'Ale nei confronti della Sirenetta incontra il fascino dei paesi del nord che da sempre gironzolano nella testa di Marco il risultato non può che essere un viaggio a Copenhagen, una di quelle decina di capitali europee che non possono certamente mancare nel diario di un buon viaggiatore. Cosa invece manca (ma non saremmo noi altrimenti) è la guida Lonely Planet della città danese che, accuratamente acquistata mesi prima, ci siamo dimenticati a casa. "Ce l'hai tu la guida? No, pensavo l'avessi presa tu. Ah cominciamo bene...". Ecco, questa è sostanzialmente la prima conversazione avuta in territorio danese. Dove siamo? A Kastrup, l'aereoporto di Copenhagen. Sono le 9.30 del mattino di giovedì, abbiamo appena preso la metro che ci porterà in hotel (economico e in posizione centrale) e dobbiamo subito riordinare le idee basandoci solamente su ciò che abbiamo studiato nei giorni precedenti.

What is missing (but we this is just us!) is the Copenhagen Lonely Planet guide which we've carefully purchased months ago. We've just forgotten it at home. "Do you get the guid? No, i don't. I thought you've got it. Well, a very good start ...". Well, this is basically the first conversation we had in Danish territory. Where do we are? It's Kastrup, the Copenhagen airport. It's 9:30 am, Thursday morning, we've just taken the subway that will take us to the hotel (cheap and centrally located), where we'll have to reorder ideas based only on what we have studied in the last weeks.
Mentre noi le riordiniamo, proviamo subito a schiarirle a coloro volessero visitare Copenhagen. Essendo già cara di suo, la "Copenhagen city card", la carta turistica, è una spesa da fare oppure o no? La risposta è sì e questo link ne è la conferma (
la copenhagen card conviene?), ma noi che "viaggiamo controvento" abbiamo comunque voluto provare la strada alternativa. Non avendo mai utilizzato i mezzi pubblici (la città non è grande e si può tranquillamente visitare a piedi) e visitato solo alcune delle attrazioni a pagamento, il costo della card (75 euro a testa per 3 giorni) ci è sembrato esorbitante. In realtà tra spostamenti in treno per raggiungere le mete fuori Copenhagen e ingresso alle attrazioni siamo arrivati a spendere gli stessi 75 euri. Se il vostro programma fosse denso e se camminare per 20-25 chilometri al giorno non rientrasse nei piani, la city card diventa un must.

Le idee intanto le abbiamo riordinate, decidendo che... stranamente abbiamo fame. La visita parte dunque dal Copenhagen Street Food, che raggiungiamo attraversando non solo i canali di Christianshavn, ma anche quello che è stato votato il miglior ristorante al mondo, il Noma. Già, perchè Copenhagen è la capitale gastronomica della Scandinavia, anche se lo street food si adatta decisamente meglio alle nostre tasche.
Meanwhile, we have re-ordered our mind and our ideas and... we are also hungry! The visit starts then from the Copenhagen Street Food, reachable through not only the Christianshavn channel, but also through what has been voted the best restaurant in the world, Noma. Well, yes. Copenhagen is the gastronomic capital of Scandinavia, although the street food is much better suited to our pockets.
Il mercato è stato inaugurato nel 2014 nell'area di Papirøen, un complesso industriale dedicato nel passato allo stoccaggio della carta, capace di contenere fino a 40 furgoncini e ospitare cibo di tutto il mondo. Noi optiamo per un panino all'anatra sfilacciata, fantastico. Come i prezzi, decisamente accessibili. Noi, va detto, siamo stati fortunati: visitandolo il giovedì l'abbiamo trovato aperto. The market established in 2014 in the Papirøen area, a dedicated industrial complex which in the past was a paper storage, capable of holding up to 40 food truck and host food from around the world. We opt for an amazing pulled duck burger. Even prices are very affordable. It has to be said the we've been very lucky because we found the market open (thursday). Con lo stomaco soddisfatto siamo davvero pronti a cominciare la visita della città che, come ormai siamo abituati a fare, abbiamo suddiviso in tre aree. Anche se poi, a dirla tutta, non tutti i piani sono andati come avremmo voluto e ne è uscito sostanzialmente un mix.

Partiamo dal cuore della città, la Radhuspladsen, la piazza che ospita il municipio (ispirato alla Torre del Mangia di Siena) e che ricorda Piazza del Campo.
Let's start from the heart of Copenhage, Radhuspladsen, the square that housing the town hall (inspired by the Torre del Mangia in Siena). It looks like Piazza del Campo in Siena.
Di notte si illumina e le insegne al neon l'hanno resa una sorta di Times Square danese anche se, ad esser onesti, della Times Square newyorkese ha davvero ben poco.
Night lights and neon signs have made this square a sort of Danish Times Square even though, to be honest, it can't be compared to the marvellous New York Times Square.
Da qui prende il via anche Strøget, la più estesa via dello shopping dell'intera europa. Il cuore palpitante della città, fatto di ristoranti, caffè, negozietti e boutique di alta moda in un susseguirsi di vie nelle quali è obbligatorio perdersi.
Stroget, the longest shopping street of the entire Europe, begins here. The beating heart of the city, made up of restaurants, cafes, shops and fashion boutiques in a series of streets in which it is mandatory to get lost.
Le percorriamo sostanzialmente tutte, sino ad arrivare al bellissimo Castello di Rosenborg (ticket: 105 corone, circa 14 euro) con i suoi giardini, un castello rinascimentale antica residenza reale, oggi sede delle Danske Kongers Kronologiske Samling, il Museo della Collezioni Reali Danesi. E' uno dei castelli europei più romantici.
We walk along all the Stroget streets till getting to the enchanting Rosenborg Castle (tickets: 105 crowns, about 14 Euros) with its gardens, a former royal residence Renaissance castle and now headquarters of "Danske Kongers Kronologiske Samling", the Museum of Royal Collections Danes. It's one of the most romantic castles in Europe.

You can't really miss the hall number 21 (cavaliers hall), with the royal throne and the Danish crown jewels located in the basement.
Ma, se amate la fotografia, nulla è come la fioritura dei Crochi (in primavera) proprio davanti all'entrata del castello.
Well, if you love photography, nothing is as beautiful as the blooming crocuses (springtime) just at the entrance of the castle.
Proprio dietro il castello, lungo Oster Voldgade, sorge il (gratuito) giardino botanico che vorremmo visitare. I cancelli sono tuttavia già chiusi: sono le 16.10 ed i giardini hanno da una decina di minuti
chiuso l'ingresso al pubblico. E ora dove andiamo? "Beh, potremmo camminare lungo Oster Voldgade e raggiungere Kastellet" propone l'Ale. Detto, fatto. Kastellet, un parco fortificato a forma di stella, è splendido. Il corso d'acqua al suo interno è proprio a forma di stella e al centro è posizionato anche un mulino.
Just behind the castle, along Oster Voldgade road, there is the (free entrance) botanical garden that we really would like to visit. However the gates are already closed: it's 4.10 pm and the gardens have closed about ten minutes ago. Where do we go now? "Well, we could walk along Oster Voldgade and go to Kastellet" Ale proposes. It will be done. Kastellet, a fortified park in a star shape, is splendid. The river inside this park is star-shaped and a mill is located in the middle.

Ma, se si sta passando dalle parti di Kastellet, è perchè l'obiettivo è proprio lei... la Sirenetta, situata a nord est del parco, anch'essa affacciata sul mare. Dell'amore dell'Ale per la Sirenetta abbiamo già detto, del fatto che sia parecchio deludente invece è ormai noto sostanzialmente a tutti. Ale lo sapeva, eccome se lo sapeva. Ma i suoi occhi brillano comunque. Parliamo della più famosa attrazione danese, la stessa della favola del 1837 scritta da Hans Christian Andersen.
Anyway, if you're visiting Kastellet it is because the final target is ... the Little Mermaid, located northeast of the park overlooking the sea. We've already said about Ale's love for the Little Mermaid, she even knows that she shouldn't have big expectations. Everybody know that the Little Mermaid is quite disappointing. Ale knows but her eyes still sparkle. We are talking about the most popular Danish attraction, the same as the fairy tale of 1837 written by Hans Christian Andersen.
Nel 1909 Carl Jacobs, mecenate e proprietario della birra Carslberg (a tal proposito il museo Carlsberg Glyptotek, così come il Luisiana non li troverete nei nostri racconti ma sono un must per gli appassionati di arte e non), colpito dalla tragica storia rappresentata nel balletto "La Sirenetta", fece costruire una statua che raffigurasse proprio la Sirenetta per abbellire il porto della città.
In 1909 Carl Jacobs, patron and owner of the Carlsberg beer (don't misse the Carlsberg Glyptotek museum amd the Louisiana Museum: you will not find them in our stories but they are a must for museum lovers), hit by the tragic story represented in the ballet "the Little Mermaid", erected a statue of the Little Mermaid just to beautify the city's port.
In poco meno di sei ore abbiamo macinato una quindicina di chilometri senza quasi accorgercene. Intanto quel segugio di nome Ale sta per svelare quale sarà il luogo della prima cena. E' risaputo che Copenhagen è carissima e, soprattutto qui, non possiamo sbagliare. L'idea è quella di regalarci una cena di qualità almeno la prima sera e la scelta ricade sul Tight (16 di 1674 su tripadvisor), uno tra quelli "di qualità" ma a più che discreto prezzo. Almeno per gli standard di Copenhagen, che di gran lunga risulterà essere la città europea in cui abbiamo speso di più. Una zuppa di pesce, un piatto di cozze al guazzetto, un branzino al cartoccio con contorno, due birre artigianali e un dolce 35 euro a persona. Qualità eccellente e prezzi tutto sommato non insormontabili. Anche stavolta l'Ale non ha sbagliato...
About fifteen kilometers in less than six hourse, almost without realizing that. Meanwhile Ale is now going to unveil what will be the place of the first dinner. It's well known that Copenhagen is expensive and, especially here, we can not go wrong. The idea is to give us a quality dinner at least for the first night and the final choice is the "Tight" (16 of 1674 on tripadvisor), one of those with a good quality and decent price. At least for the Copenhagen standards, that will be by far the European city where we spent more money. A fish soup, a plate of mussels with sauce, sea bass baked in foil with vegetables, two beers and a dessert for 35 euros per person. Excellent quality and fari price all in all. Again Ale has not gone wrong ...
