La Citè du Vin in Bordeaux, a world of cultures and experiences

Inaugurato nel 2016, "la citè du vin" è diventato in brevissimo tempo una delle principali mete per turisti, appassionati o, come noi, semplici curiosi, affascinati da un mondo, quello del vino, ricco di sfumature che solo un museo così ben curato avrebbe saputo raccontare.

Inaugurated in 2016, the "La citè du vin" has become in a very short time one of the main destinations for tourists, enthusiasts or, like us, just curious, fascinated by a world, that of wine, rich in nuances that only a museum like that could tell.

Siamo a nord del centro storico, sul lungofiume della Garonna. Davanti a voi comparirà quello che a prima vista può sembrare un enorme e decisamente lucente decanter per il vino rosso, ma che in realtà rappresenta il movimento del vino che ruota nel bicchiere, la forma del percorso della fiume Garonna e i nodi della vigna. Una location perfetta per quello che a tutti gli effetti è il più bel museo sul vino al mondo. In front of us there's what at first glance may seem a huge and very bright decanter for red wine, but that actually represents the movement of the wine that rotates in the glass, the shape of the route of the Garonne river and the knots of the vineyard. A perfect location for the most beautiful wine museum in the world. Whether you get to La Citè du Vin aboard the ferry (we talked about it in the post about the 20 places to visit in Bordeaux) or walk along the various river's hangar or along the equally lively Quai de Bacalan, you will find 14 thousand square meters of culture and interactive fun waiting for you. Yes, because the La Citè du Vin is also and above all interactivity. No, there is no room for boredom...

LA VISITA AL MUSEO
Armati di cuffie, sarete a voi a decidere cosa ascoltare (in italiano), quando e dove farlo. Pensato soprattutto per le famiglie, il Citè du Vin, non è infatti un museo come gli altri. Ogni visitatore costruisce il suo percorso dei sensi, soffermandosi dove la sua curiosità lo spingerà. Basterà appoggiare il registratore su alcuni simboli ben visibili e toccare gli schermi per immergervi nel mondo del vino come mai avrete fatto prima, lungo i venti spazi tematici creati per il visitatore.


VISIT THE MUSEUM
Armed with headphones, you will decide what to listen to (many languages available), when and where to do it. Especially conceived for families, the La Citè du Vin is not a museum like any other. Each visitor builds his path of the senses, following his curiosity. Just put the recorder on some clearly visible symbols and touch the screens to immerse yourself in the world of wine as you have never done before, along the twenty thematic spaces created for the visitor.

I percorsi didattici vi guideranno lungo la storia e i luoghi del vino: grazie ad immagini in 3D, video e moltissimi schermi ed anche profumi diffusi nelle stanze, il vostro sarà un viaggio indimenticabile, anche e soprattutto se viaggiare con bambini e disabili. Il museo è, infatti, stato pensato anche per loro.

The educational tours will guide you through the history and the places of wine: thanks to 3D images, videos and many screens and also fragrances widespread in the rooms, your visit will be an unforgettable journey, also and especially if traveling with children and the disabled. The museum has been, in fact, designed also for them.

Sono state ricostruite le terre del vino (e non mancherà l'Italia) e potrete navigare lungo le antiche rotte marine a bordo di un barcone, visiterete le sale che offrono una sorta di tablet capace di attivare video, suoni, immagini e persino odori. Volete sapere come si serve un buon vino rosso? Lì avrete la risposta. Volete imparare a riconoscere gli odori che regala il vino? Dirigetevi allora al buffet dei 5 sensi dove metterete alla prova la propria capacità di riconoscere i vari sentori grazie ai  sensi. Ogni sezione è sostanzialmente speciale e coinvolgente e se ne può godere con una fruizione rapida e o più e attenta.

All the lands of the wine have been rebuilt (Italy could not miss, of course) and you can navigate along the ancient sea routes aboard a boat, you can visit the rooms that offer a sort of tablet capable of activating videos, sounds, images and even smells. Do you want to know how to serve a good red wine? You're about to get an answer! Do you want to learn how to recognize the smells that wine gives? Then go to the buffet of the 5 senses where you will test your ability to recognize the various sensations thanks to the senses. Each section is essentially special and engaging. 

La visita, che può durare dalle 2 alle 5 ore, si concluderà all'ultimo piano dove, incluso nel prezzo biglietto, potrete assaggiare un calice di vino tra quelli offerti. Ce ne sono di diversi tipi e provenienti da ogni parte del mondo: la scelta più difficile della giornata sarà... quale vino sorseggiare con una splendida vista su Bordeaux e sulla Garonna. E, per chi non ne avrà ancora abbastanza, nel prestigioso Latitude20 restaurant situato all'interno del museo, Andreas Larsson (miglior sommelier del mondo 2007) e Michel Rolland  hanno scelto le 14 mila bottiglie che si trovano sugli scaffali del ristorante stesso.

The visit, which can last about 2 to 5 hours, will end on the top floor where, included in the ticket price, you can taste a glass of wine among those offered. There are different types of wines produced all over the world: the most difficult choice of the day will be ... which wine to sip while admiring a splendid view of Bordeaux and the Garonne. And, for those who do not yet have enough, in the prestigious Latitude20 restaurant located inside the museum, Andreas Larsson (2007 best sommelier in the world) and Michel Rolland have chosen the 14 thousand bottles that are exposed on the shelves of the restaurant.
