The United States have always meant a lot, lot of shopping, at least for european tourists. Because, vox populi, there are great deals, there are things that can't be found anywhere else. Or are just cheaper. And then, after talking about the 30 best restaurants in the USA, it's time to deal with another theme very dear to the tourists, the 10 best (at least for us) department stores in the United States, where you could also do the deal of your life. Be careful though, we won't deliberately mention malls as well as outlet shopping center where there are still bargain opportunities: we will focus on those shops that are defined as "off price stores", or on the department stores, basically located in every medium-size American city. The great feature shared by several of the ten companies that they force you to be very, very, very patient: for every hundred items displayed in these immense stores, probably only a few will be interesting and you won't probably find your size or favorite color. You'll have to be very lucky and just enter the shop at the right time. But if you find the right garment, you could do the deal of the century ...
10) SEARS
Il signor Sears non è soltanto colui che ha dato il nome alla Sears Tower di Chicago, ovvero quello che è stato l'edificio più grande del mondo sino al 1998. Richard Warren Sears è ovviamente anche e soprattutto la persona che insieme a Alvah Curtis Roebuck ha creato nel 1892 (sempre a Chicago) la Sears, una grande una catena americana di grandi magazzini. Tuttavia, non è un gran momento per l'azienda: wikipedia racconta che Sears ha annunciato il 16 gennaio 2019 di aver vinto la sua asta fallimentare e sarebbe rimasta aperta con 425 negozi. Ciononostante, la tendenza delle chiusure dei negozi Sears e Kmart continua: si prevedono oltre 130 chiusure entro maggio 2020.

Qui, gli amanti dell'elettronica troveranno di tutto, dai più prestigiosi televisori ai computer di ultima generazione. Il marchio fu fondato da Richard M. Schulze e James Wheeler nel 1966 originariamente come un negozio di musica chiamato Sound of Music, salvo poi nel 1983 essere rinominato Best Buy: da quel momento l'enfasi fu posta sull'elettronica di consumo.

Uno dei motivi per cui gli articoli a Nordstrom sono un po' più costosi è perché l'azienda preferisce acquistare prodotti negli Stati Uniti ogni qualvolta sia possibile. Eppure c'è margine, anche qui, per fare affari: dopo tutto si parla di uno dei grandi magazzini più amato dagli americani. 7) DICK'S SPORTING GOODS
Anche chi ama lo sport e gli articoli sportivi, negli Stati Uniti ha pane per i suoi denti. Tra le diverse aziende ci sentiamo di consigliare Dick's Sporting Goods, dove troverete tutto quello che vi serve per la vostra attività sportiva. La società, stata fondata da Richard "Dick" Stack nel 1948, possiede circa 850 negozi, 30.000 dipendenti ed è di gran lunga la più grande società di vendita al dettaglio di articoli sportivi del paese. Una sorta di "nostra Decathlon", ma più in grande. Se siete amanti della vita all'aria aperta, tuttavia, il paradiso per voi sarà Bass Pro Shop, il più grande rivenditore di articoli per la caccia, la pesca, il campeggio e altre attività ricreative all'aperto. A sort of "our Decathlon", but bigger. If you love outdoor life, however, Bass Pro Shop will be your paradise. It's the biggest retailer of items for hunting, fishing, camping and other outdoor activities. If you followed the TV series "Last Man Standing", Mike Baxter (Tim Allen), is co-owner of Outdoor Man which looks like... Pro Bass Shop.
6) MACY'S
Con Macy's si sale indubbiamente di livello. Dimenticatevi della confusione dei grandi magazzini di cui abbiamo parlato in precedenza e di cui parleremo più avanti, l'azienda fondata nel 1858, è uno dei principali rivenditori di moda omni-channel della nazione, con un fatturato fiscale 2019 di $ 24,6 miliardi. La società comprende tre marchi al dettaglio, Macy, Bloomingdale e Bluemercury. I negozi, sempre enormi, sono sempre divisi in reparti (uomo, donna bambino, articoli per la casa...) e troverete le varie marche suddivise l'una dall'altra, rendendo la vita molto più facile al visitatore. La nota dolente è che non sempre è facile fare grandi affari...

The stores, always huge, are always divided into departments (men, women, kids, bed and bath...) and you will find the various brands divided from each other, making life much easier for customers. The sore point is that it is not always easy to make great deals ...
5) ROSS DRESS FOR LESS
Come si evince dal nome, da Ross si spende davvero poco. Un buon Il 95% dei vestiti (e non solo) è di prima qualità e i marchi sono spesso importanti. Dovrete solo resistere alla confusione che regna che in questi grandi magazzini. Una leggenda metropolitana vuole che il mercoledì sia il giorno migliore per fare shopping da Ross, perchè è al martedì sera che vengono autorizzati i ribassi (settimanali) sui prezzi della merce in arrivo.
5) ROSS DRESS FOR LESS
As the name suggest, Ross dress for less. Ross store is thriving with great deals despite messy stores: 95% of the clothes (and not only) are of first quality and the brands are often very famous. It claims that 85 percent of its merchandise is from the current season and less than 5 percent is irregular. Next to clothing and the footwear department, you can expect to get excellent bargains at the home department. In this department, you can find almost anything and everything for home decor. 
4) TJ MAXX
Con più di 1000 negozi, la catena di abbigliamento Tj Maxx è arrivata da diversi anni addirittura anche in Europa (Regno Unito, Irlanda, Germania, Polonia, Austria e Paesi Bassi), diventando di fatto il marchio più riconosciuto tra i grandi magazzini dalla popolazione europea. Il segreto, quando si visita Tj Maxx, è l'avere molto tempo a disposizione, perchè la caccia al capo d'abbigliamento che fa per voi non è semplice. Dovrete destreggiarvi tra le misure e la tipologia del capo, ma potreste trovare una grande marca ad un prezzo decisamente conveniente.
4) TJ MAXX
With more than 1000 stores, the Tj Maxx department store chain has even arrived in Europe for several years (United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Poland, Austria and the Netherlands), becoming in fact the most recognized brand among department stores in Europe. The secret, when visiting Tj Maxx, is to have plenty of time, because hunting for clothing that perfectly suits you is not easy. You will have to juggle among different sizes clothing patterns, but you may find a great brand at a decidedly affordable price.
3) BED BATH AND BEYOND
Probabilmente in qualche film o serie tv l'avrete sentito nominare tradotto (in maniera pessima) in italiano letto, bagno e oltre. Ecco, quello di cui l'attore in questione stava parlando è il mitico Bed Bath and Beyond, una sorta di paradiso della casa. Fondata nel 1971 e presente in Usa, Canada e Messico, con quasi 1500 negozi è per noi l'azienda numero uno quando si parla di articoli domestici, dal semplice coltello ad un cuscino, dagli accessori per il bagno ai quadri. E' capitato diverse volte di trovare oggetti che da noi non sono ancora sul mercato, come ad esempio un particolare spremiagrumi o altro ancora. Ah, e non dimenticatevi, prima di raggiungere le casse, di fermarvi nell'area "discount" perchè potreste fare diversi affari...
3) BED BATH AND BEYOND
You've probably heard of it in some movies or TV. In case you don't know, this is the legendary Bed Bath and Beyond, a sort of paradise for domestic merchandise lovers. Founded in 1971, Bed Bath & Beyond currently operates approximately 1,530 stores in all 50 U.S. states, Canada and Mexico: it is our favourite when it comes to household items, from a simple knife to a pillow, from bathroom accessories to paintings. It has happened several times that we found objects that are not yet on the european market, such as a particular juicer or something else. Well, don't forget, before reaching the checkout, to stop in the "discount" area because you could do different deals ...
2) TARGET
Esiste qualcosa di più bello di Target? Noi non crediamo. "Expect more, pay less" è lo slogan dalla Target Corporation, l'ottavo rivenditore al dettaglio negli Stati Uniti e fondatao da George Dayton addirittura nel 1902. Il mitico negozio rosso con lo stemma a forma di mirino (target appunto), offre sostanzialmente tutto quello di cui abbiamo parlato raccontando le prime otto posizioni in classifica. Cercate abbigliamento? qui lo trovate. Cercate giocattoli per i vostri figli? qui lo trovate. Target è il paradiso per la "gente comune" che qui riesce a trovare sostanzialmente di tutto ed a prezzi decisamente conveniente. Troverete scarpe, vestiti, oggetti per la casa, giocattoli, articoli di elettronica, libri, videogiochi, articoli sportivi, articoli di beauties ed anche la mitica Cvs, una delle due più importanti farmacie negli Usa (l'altra è Wallgreens). No, non ci siamo dimenticati del reparto cibo, che merita un capitolo a parte. E' qui, infatti, che abbiamo fatto gli affari migliori, dal beef jerky a prezzi praticamente dimezzati, a qualsiasi altro prodotto. Perchè Target è anche un mini supermercato. Il grande rivale è Walmart (decisamente più grande), ma noi non abbiamo dubbi su quale sia il migliore...
2) TARGET
Is there anything more beautiful than Target? No, we don't think so. The legendary "red shop" with the... target as a symbol, offers substantially everything we talked about when in the previous eight positions of the ranking. Are you looking for clothing? here you'll find it. Are you looking for toys for your children? here you'll find it. Target is a paradise for "ordinary people" who can basically find everything at very affordable prices. You will find shoes, clothes, household items, toys, electronics, books, video games, sporting goods, beauties and also the legendary Cvs, one of the two most important pharmacies in the USA (the other one is Wallgreens). No, we haven't forgotten to talk about the food department, which deserves a separate chapter. We've done there the best deals, from beef jerky at half prices, to any other product. Because Target is also a small supermarket. The big rival is Walmart (definitely bigger), but we have no doubts about which one is the best....
1) MARSHALLS
Il primo amore non si scorda mai. Ecco, per noi vale anche in questa situazione. Marshalls è stata la prima catena di grandi magazzini nella quale siamo stati e dove, almeno Marco, riesce sempre a fare grandissimi affari, sia per quanto riguarda marche prestigiose, che per qualche abbigliamento delle squadre sportive americane. Marshalls, che vanta oltre 1000 negozi sparsi per il paese, è il secondo più grande rivenditore di abbigliamento e articoli per la casa negli Stati Uniti (dal 2011 è presente anche in Canada), dietro la sua consociata, TJ Maxx, di cui abbiamo parlato precedentemente.

Marshalls was the first department store where we have been to and where especially Marco has always managed to always manages to do great deals, for both prestigious brands, and American sports teams merchandise. Marshalls, which boasts over 1000 stores across the country, is the second largest off-price family apparel and home fashion retailer in the United States (61 stores in Canada: update 2020), behind its sister company, TJ Maxx., of which we discussed previously.
