Avendo anticipato la visita al bellissimo lago di Anterselva al giorno precedente, il day 6 si è rivelato essere meno impegnativo ma non per questo meno affascinante dei precedenti cinque. Ancora una volta è la natura ad essere protagonista, in quella che è stata la tappa più corta dell'on the road in Trentino Alto Adige. Solamente 56 km separano, infatti, Brunico, con Vipiteno, l'ultima città prima dello sconfinamento con l'Austria lungo la corsia del Brennero, tra tutte sicuramente quella che ci ha sorpreso di più in positivo. A dirla tutta però, i chilometri che abbiamo percorso sono stati un po' di più, circa 86, perchè una delle bellezze naturali della giornata era posizionata una ventina di km a nord di Brunico, nel cuore della Valle Aurina...

Having visited the beautiful lake of Anterselva the previous day, day 6 turned out to be less demanding but no less fascinating than the previous five days. Once again, nature is the protagonist, in what was the shortest stage of the road trip to Trentino Alto Adige. In fact, only 56 km separate Brunico from Vipiteno, the last italian city before the austrian border crossing along the Brenner lane, certainly the one that surprised us the most. To be honest, however, we traveled 86 km instead of 56, because one of the natural beauties of the day was located about twenty km north of Brunico, in the heart of the Aurina Valley ...

LE TRE CASCATE DI RIVA, UNA CHICCA DELLA VALLE AURINA
All'ingresso del Parco Naturale Vedrette di Ries-Aurina, nella Valle Aurina, c'è una cascata, anzi tre per l'esattezza, che sono un'autentica chicca dell'Alto Adige e, rispetto alle altre bellezze naturali della regione, ancora poco visitata dal turismo di massa. Parliamo ovviamente delle Tre Cascate di Riva, nel paesino di Campo Tures, un sentiero semplice ma con un grande "payoff", come dicono gli anglosassoni. Già, perchè con una camminata di circa 50 minuti tra andata e ritorno, potrete godere di tre tra le più belle cascate dell'Alto Adige.
THE THREE RIVA'S WATERFALLS, A GEM OF THE AURINA VALLEY
At the entrance of the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Nature Park, in the Aurina Valley, there is a waterfall, or rather three, which are a real gem of South Tyrol and, compared to the other natural beauties of the region, still not so touristy. We are obviously talking about the "Tre Cascate di Riva "Three Riva's Wateralls), in the village of Campo Tures, an easy trail with a great payoff. It takes, in fact, about 50 minutes to visit all the three waterfalls...
Il punto di partenza è il bar (Wasserfallweg, 39032 Campo Tures) posizionato a ridosso del parcheggio (a pagamento) e del sentiero San Francesco, nel piccolo paesino di Campo Tures, a 864 metri sul livello del mare. Il sentiero che dovrete percorrere è marcato rosso-bianco (numero 2) che segue il corso del Rio Aurino e conduce al sentiero 1 "Wasserfall" (cascata in tedesco). No, il nome non è messo lì a caso, perchè dopo pochissimi metri avrete raggiunto la prima delle tre Cascate di Riva, alta ben 10 metri e particolarmente maestosa soprattutto in estate.
The starting point is the bar (address: Wasserfallweg, 39032 Campo Tures) located close to the parking lot (for a fee) and the San Francesco trailhead in the small village of Campo Tures (864 meters above sea leve). The path to take is marked with red-white colors (number 2), follows the course of the Rio Aurino and leads to path 1 calles "Wasserfall" (waterfall in German). No, the name isn't there by chance: just after few meters, you'll reach the first of the three Riva waterfalls, which is 10 meters high and particularly majestic especially in summer.
Ritornati sul Sentiero San Francesco, dovrete seguirlo per una manciata di metri, sino alla deviazione verso sinistra che conduce alla cascata numero 2. Incrocerete una piccola grotta con bellissime statuine in legno, posizionate poco prima della piattaforma di osservazione sulla cascata, ancor più alta della precedente.
Once you get back to the San Francesco trail, just follow it for a few meters, until you notice the detour to the left that leads to the waterfall number 2. You will come across a small cave with beautiful wooden figurines, positioned just before the observation platform on the waterfall: the second waterfall is even higher than the previous one.
La terza ed ultima cascata è quella un pizzico più impegnativa da raggiungere (ma nulla di clamoroso). Gli schizzi faranno sì che vi bagnerete, ma nella Gola di Riva vi sembrerà per qualche minuto di essere...alle Hawaii. No, non stiamo esagerando. Sapete ormai che le bellissime isole americane sono entrate nel nostro cuore, e l'arcobaleno che ci ha regalato la terza delle Cascate di Riva ci ha riportato proprio là, nel cuore dell'Oceano Pacifico.
The third and last waterfall is the one a bit more demanding to reach (but nothing complicated). The sketches will make you get wet, but in the Riva Gorge you will feel like you are ... in Hawaii for a few minutes. No, we are not exaggerating. By now you know that the beautiful American islands are always in our hearts, and the rainbow created by the third of the Riva Waterfalls brought us right there, in the heart of the Pacific Ocean.
Un ultimo sforzo vi permetterà di raggiungere l'albergo-bar Toblhof, ma poco prima non dimenticatevi di fermarvi nella zona dedicata alla "Fly Line", un autentico spettacolo per grandi e piccini. In funzione nei mesi estivi, la Fly Line permette, mentre si è saldamenti ancorati ad una struttura metallica, di percorrere curve larghe e strette immersi tra gli alberi, di raggiungere in volo la prima cascata, ammirando tutte e tre le cascate da posizione privilegiatissima.

One last effort will allow you to reach the Toblhof hotel-bar, but just before that, don't forget to stop in the area dedicated to the "Fly Line", an authentic adventure for all the family. The fly line operates during the summer months and allows visitors (well anchored to a metal structure), to fly along wide and narrow curves between the trees, till they reach all the three waterfalls. They can obviously admire all of them from a privileged position .

GOLE E CASCATE DI STANGHE, LE UNICHE IN EUROPA SCOLPITE NEL MARMO
Se amate il formaggio (ed il buon vino), non mancate di fermarvi nell'avveneristica struttura Capriz Freinkaieserei. Non potrete non notarla mentre percorrete la trafficatissima (attenzione ai possibili ritardi) Strada Statale 49 della Val Pusteria in direzione Vipiteno. L'azienda lavora sia latte di capra che di mucca, che viene trasformato nei diversi formaggi Capriz. Tra le proposte potrete trovare formaggi a pasta molle con muffa esterna o a crosta rossa, Caprizzella, la mozzarella caprina, variazioni di formaggi freschi e particolarissimi formaggi duri. Giunti a Vipiteno, invece, ci siamo diretti verso ovest, a circa 6 km dalla cittadina. Lasciata la nostra vettura nel parcheggio situato poco prima di entrare nella frazione di Stanghe a Racines di Dentro (sulla sinistra, nello sterrato, lungo via Belprato), abbiamo percorso circa 300 metri lungo una mulattiera prima di raggiungere l'ingresso del percorso verso le bellissime Gole e Cascate di Stanghe.
STANGHE GORGES AND WATERFALLS, THE ONLY ONE CARVED IN MARBLE
If you love cheese (and good wine), be sure to stop by the futuristic Capriz Freinkaieserei. You cannot miss it while traveling along the very busy (beware of possible delays) Strada Statale 49 della Val Pusteria towards Vipiteno. The company processes both goat's and cow's milk, which is transformed into the various Capriz cheeses. Among the proposals you will find soft cheeses with external mold or red rind, Caprizzella (the goat's mozzarella), variations of fresh cheeses and very special hard cheeses. Once in Vipiteno, however, we headed west, about 6 km from the town. We left our car in the parking lot located just before entering the the small village of Stanghe in Racines di Dentro (on the left along via Belprato) and walked for about 300 meters till we got to the entrance of the beautiful "Gole e Cascate di Stanghe" trailhead.
Sia che proveniate da sud, oppure da nord (nei pressi del Gasthof Jaufensteg, indirizzo: Ausserratschings, 4A, Racines), ovvero dalla seconda entrata alle gole, dovrete acquistare il ticket (cinque euro per gli adulti, 3 per i bambini) per accedere al percorso di 5.5 km andata-ritorno che vi porterà letteralmente in un'altra dimensione.
Whether you come from the south or from the north (near the "Gasthof Jaufensteg", address: Ausserratschings, 4A, Racines) which is the second entrance to the gorges, you will have to purchase the ticket (adults: 5 euros, children: 3 euros) to get to the 5.5 km round trip trailhead that will literally take you to another dimension.

The Stanghe Gorge ("Gilfenklamm" in German language), was opened to the public in 1896 and two years later obtained the name of "Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Klamm", or the Gorge of Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria. The credit of this natural beauty belongs to the Rio Racines, which over the years has dug a splendid gorge, which can be admire by walking along walkways suspended in the void between bridges and steps. Le Gole di Stanghe, oltre ad essere tra le più suggestive delle Alpi, è anche l'unica in Europa ad essere scolpita nel marmo bianco, lo stesso utilizzato per la costruzione della Chiesa della Corte di Innsbruck. Tra le ripide pareti della gola scorre, violento, il Rio Racines, che al termine del percorso forma le Cascate di Stanghe. Al termine del percorso, se arrivate come noi dal parcheggio a ridosso del paese di Racines, avrete voglia di fermarvi al Jaufensteg (220 metri s.l.m.), un hotel-bar-ristorante nel quale potrete gustarvi direttamente sulla terrazza un ottimo strudel.

The Gole di Stanghe, in addition to being among the most evocative of the entire Alps, is also the only one in Europe to be carved in white marble, the same used for the construction of the Church of the Court of Innsbruck. The Rio Racines flows violently between the steep walls of the gorge and forms the Stanghe waterfalls. If you're coming from parking lot near the village of Racines, you will want to stop at the end of the trailhead at the Jaufensteg (220 meters above sea level), a hotel-bar-restaurant where you can enjoy an excellent strudel directly on the terrace.

COSA VEDERE E DOVE DORMIRE A VIPITENO
Vipiteno, oltre ad essere la città più a nord d'Italia, è anche uno dei borghi più belli dello "stivale". E noi non possiamo che confermare. Un piccolo tour a piedi della città non può non includere via Città Nuova, dove camminerete con il naso all'insù per ammirare bellissime case con le caratteristiche facciate: il colore delle stesse, ai tempi significava la qualità dell'alloggio. E poi ancora il municipio, con la statua di Giovanni Nepomuceno, eretta nel 1739 affinché proteggesse la città dalle devastanti inondazioni dei fiumi vicini, e l'icona della città stessa, la torre delle 12. Alta 46 metri, fino al 20esimo secolo fu abitata da un guardiano che batteva le ore e avvisava la popolazione in caso di incendio, tempeste e guerre. Un'altra icona della città è Piazza Città, dove ogni anno sotto Natale ospita il bellissimo mercatino ed ovviamente via Città Vecchia, la via pedonale caratterizzata da negozietti.
WHAT TO DO AND WHERE TO STAY IN VIPITENO
Vipiteno, in addition to being the northernmost city in Italy, is also one of the most beautiful villages in our country. And we can just confirm taht. A small walking tour of the city begins at via Città Nuova, where you will walk with your nose upwards to admire beautiful houses with characteristic facades:in the past, their color correspond to the quality of the accommodation. And then the town hall, with the statue of John of Nepomuk, erected in 1739 to protect the city from the devastating floods of nearby rivers, and the icon of the city, the "Torre delle 12" which is 46 meters high. It has been inhabited until the 20th century by a guardian who warned the population in case of fire, storms and wars. Another icon of the city is Piazza Città, which helds the beautiful christmas market every winter and obviously via Città Vecchia, the pedestrian street characterized by small shops.
Per quanto riguarda il "dove dormire a Vipiteno", beh non dovrebbero esserci dubbi. Il rapporto qualità prezzo dell'Hotel - Restaurant Schaurhof (via Ried 20, Vipiteno) è onestamente imbattibile. Ed il ristorante al suo interno, gestito dal proprietario e chef è semplicemente uno dei migliori ristoranti della città. Consigliatissimo.
When it comes to "where to stay in Vipiteno", well... there should be no doubts. The value for money of the Hotel - Restaurant Schaurhof (address: via Ried 20, Vipiteno) is honestly unbeatable. And the restaurant located inside the hotel, run by the owner and chef, is simply one of the best restaurants in town. Highly recommended.
