Quasi senza nemmeno accorgersene è arrivato l'ultimo giorno di viaggio, il primo negli Stati Uniti dopo la lunga pandemia dovuta al Covid-19. Ed è questa anche l'ultima giornata spesa a Tucson, dedicata a quello che a tutti gli effetti potremmo considerare a posteriori come il più bel trail della spedizione ed al downtown della città, ricco di storia e luoghi particolari. Ma è anche la giornata delle conclusioni e dei bilanci di un viaggio che non ha deluso. Certamente l'Arizona più turistica ed affascinante è quella che da Sedona sale sino ai grandi canyon del nord, ma anche il sud con i suoi deserti, le sue influenze messicane e soprattutto quell'anima del vecchio west che non vuol morire, non può non essere un must per chi come noi ama gli Stati Uniti.
without ever realizing it, the last day of the trip has arrived, the first in the United States after the long pandemic due to Covid-19. And this is also the last day spent in Tucson, dedicated to what could be considered in retrospect as the most beautiful trail of the road trip and to the downtown of the city, rich in history and special places. But it's also the day to draw conclusions and take stock of a trip that did not really disappoint us. Certainly the most touristic and fascinating Arizona is the one that from Sedona goes up to the great canyons of the north, but also the south with its deserts, its Mexican influences and above all that soul of the old west that doesn't want to die... well it should be a must for those who love the United States.
BROWN MOUNTAIN TRAIL, IL TREKKING PIU' BELLO DI TUCSON
Se vi ricordate, nel post precedente, vi avevamo parlato del Tucson Mountain Park, che ogni visitatore dovrà attraversare per raggiungere la sezione ovest del Saguaro National Park. Ecco, questo parco cittadino si è rivelato essere davvero sorprendente e può essere tranquillamente abbinato alla visita del vicino parco nazionale. In particolare il trail che abbiamo scelto di percorrere, il Brown Mountain Trail, un percorso in loop di quasi 5 miglia che sale e scende tra le colline del Tucson Mountain Park e regala scorci davvero incredibili.
BROWN MOUNTAIN TRAIL, THE MOST BEAUTIFUL TREK IN TUCSON
If you remember, in the previous post, we told you about Tucson Mountain Park, which every visitor will have to cross to reach the western section of Saguaro National Park. This city park turned out to be really amazing and could be easily combined with a visit to the nearby national park. Particularly the trail we chose to hike, the Brown Mountain Trail, a nearly 5-mile loop trail that climbs and descends through the hills of Tucson Mountain Park and provides some truly incredible views.
E poi, a differenza del Saguaro National Park, potrete godere della totale solitudine. Noi, durante il percorso, abbiamo incontrato una troupe televisiva ad inizio del tracciato ed un'altra coppia di hikers. Il tutto nelle quasi due ore spese nel loop del Brown Mountain Trail.
Plus, unlike Saguaro National Park, you'll enjoy total solitude. Along the way, we just met a television crew at the beginning of the trail and another couple of hikers. All in the nearly two hours spent walking the Brown Mountain Trail loop.
Noi abbiamo lasciato l'auto nel parcheggio della pic nic area lungo la Kinney Road, la stessa che conduce al Sonora Desert Museum e poi al Saguaro National Park. Il trail comincia qui e consigliamo di intraprendere il loop in senso orario (sinistra), un percorso che subito dopo effettuerà una sorta di curva a "U" per poi cominciare improvvisamente a salire (tenere la destra al bivio). E' decisamente questa la parte più bella del trail che si snoda tra colline e cactus. Ed in lontananza il deserto.
We left the car in the parking lot of the picnic area along Kinney Road, the same road that leads to the Sonora Desert Museum and then to Saguaro National Park. The trail starts here and we suggest to take the loop in a clockwise direction (left). The trail immediately make a sort of "U" curve and then suddenly start to climb (keep right at the fork). This is definitely the most beautiful part of the trail that winds through hills and cacti. Andin the distance, the desert...
Il percorso, seppur meno impegnativo dei vicini King Canyon Trail e Wasson Peak, non vi deluderà. E poi è ben segnalato... Insomma, è impossibile perdersi. Una volta avvicinatisi notevolmente al Sonora Desert Museum (nord del loop), potrete approfittarne per usufruire dei servizi igienici o continuare il loop sino al ritorno alla pic nic area.

The trail, while less challenging than the nearby King Canyon Trail and Wasson Peak, will not disappoint you. Plus, it's well marked... In short, it's impossible to get lost. Once you get considerably closer to the Sonora Desert Museum (north of the loop), you can take advantage of the restrooms or continue the loop until you return to the picnic area.

DOWNTOWN TUCSON, TRA STORIA E MODERNITA'
Per chi ama invece la vita della città, consigliamo anche un giro per il centro di Tucson. Ma cosa vedere a downtown Tucson? Cominciate la visita da due icone di downtown, il Mercado San Agustin ed il vicinissimo MSA Annex. Il Mercado San Agustín è il primo e unico mercato pubblico di Tucson, capace di ospitare numerose attività locali indipendenti (100 South Avenida del Convento).
DOWNTOWN TUCSON, BETWEEN HISTORY AND MODERNITY
For those who love city life instead, we also recommend a tour of downtown Tucson. But, what to see in downtown Tucson? We recommend to start visiting the two icons of downtown, the Mercado San Agustin and the nearby MSA Annex. The Mercado San Agustín is Tucson's first and only public market, capable of hosting numerous independent local businesses (100 South Avenida del Convento).
Ancor più intrigante e particolare è il Msa Annex, che vi accoglierà con un bellissimo murales dedicato al movimento Black Lives Matter. L'MSA Annex altro non è che un gruppo di negozi di artigianato, caffetterie, pastelerias e hamburgerie che si differenzia dal Mercado San Agustin per la sua conformazione.
Even more intriguing and peculiar is the Msa Annex, which welcomes visitors with a beautiful mural dedicated to the Black Lives Matter movement. The MSA Annex is nothing more than a group of craft stores, cafeterias, pastelerias and hamburger stores that differs from the Mercado San Agustin for its conformation.
Si tratta, infatti, di un progetto voluto dall'architetto Paul Weiner, che trasformò container per la spedizione in locali moderni, all'interno dei quali 14 aziende commerciali hanno trovato il loro spazio. Essendo all'aperto, non è consigliato durante le caldissime ore centrali estive di Tucson.
It is, in fact, a project wanted by architect Paul Weiner, who transformed shipping containers into modern rooms, within which 14 commercial companies have found their space. Since it is outdoors, it is not recommended during Tucson's very hot central summer hours.
Il vero downtown è però delimitato dalla 4th Avenue, il cuore pulsante di Tucson. Conosciuta dai locali anche come "fourth", offre negozi di artigiani e boutique locali che offrono selezioni curate di abbigliamento vintage, gioielli, mobili, opere d'arte, oggetti d'antiquariato, articoli fatti a mano e importati, libri etc. Per chi ama la storia consigliamo di fare un giro anche al Barrio Viejo. noto per le sue case colorate ed i locali a forti tinte messicane. In un tour a piedi del Barrio Viejo i tre stop imperdibili sono il Santuario dei desideri di El Tiradito, simbolo della cultura ispanica del quartiere, il Museo di Storia Ebraica, ospitato nella prima sinagoga del territorio dell'Arizona ed il Teatro Carmen, uno dei primi teatri dedicati alle opere e concerti drammatici in lingua spagnola.
