COSA VEDERE A MANCHESTER - IL TOUR DELLA CITTA'
L'itinerario di 5 km alla scoperta di Manchester non può che cominciare al carinissimo centro storico cittadino e quindi dalla MANCHESTER TOWN HALL, il Municipio, autentico simbolo della città con la sua struttura architettonica neogotica che domina l'intera Albert Square. Costruito tra il 1868 ed il 1877, è di fatto, il palazzo più significativo a livello di architettura neogotica d'epoca vittoriana in tutto il Regno Unito. A svettare è la torre dell’orologio, alta ben 85 metri, che ricorda il celebre Big Ben di Londra. E, per chi volesse visitare il suo interno, non dimenticatevi di ammirare la Great Hall, la sala cerimoniale dove spiccano i Manchester Murale, 12 dipinti realizzati da Madox Brown che ripercorrono la storia della città.

Prima però, che siate tifosi o meno, non potrete non fermarmi al NATIONAL FOOTBALL MUSEUM, il Museo Nazionale del Calcio. In questa straordinaria esposizione, distribuita su tutti i 6 piani dell'edificio, potrai ammirare incredibili cimeli calcistici come i sedili originali dello stadio di Wembley, il pallone usato nella finale dei Campionati del Mondo del 1966, la maglia del Manchester United con la quale George Best segnò 6 reti nel 1970 e molto altro. Di fianco al museo sorge l'enorme centro commerciale Manchester Arndale.

Walking down Thomas Street you venture into the Northern Quarter, the city's most fascinating neighborhood. First, however, whether you are a fan or not, you cannot fail to stop at the NATIONAL FOOTBALL MUSEUM. In this amazing exhibit, spread over all 6 floors of the building, you can see incredible soccer memorabilia such as the original seats from Wembley Stadium, the ball used in the 1966 World Cup final, the Manchester United jersey in which George Best scored 6 goals in 1970, and much more. Next to the museum stands the huge Manchester Arndale shopping center.

Il NORTHERN QUARTER è di fatto l’anima alternativa e bohémien di Manchester, un quartiere interamente dedicato alla "street art" con i suoi murales, i negozietti vintage, la musica indipendente oltre ovviamente a bar e caffetterie. Il vostro punto di riferimento saranno i PICCADILLY GARDENS che insieme alla Ring Road delimitano il Northern Quarter.
The NORTHERN QUARTER is in fact the alternative and bohemian soul of Manchester, a neighborhood entirely dedicated to street art with its murals, vintage stores, independent music as well as, of course, bars and cafes. Your point of reference will be the PICCADILLY GARDENS, which together with the Ring Road demarcates the Northern Quarter.
Delimitato dai Piccadilly Gardens e dalla Ring Road, il Northern Quarter è l’area di Manchester dove nel 1783 nacquero le prime fabbriche tessili della città, fulcro principale dello sviluppo industriale. Distrutto durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, soltanto tra gli anni ’80 e ’90 ha cominciato a rigenerarsi, trovando nuova linfa vitale nella musica, che è ancora grande protagonista di quest’area della città.

Tra le cose assolutamente da vedere a Manchester c'è sicuramente il QUARTIERE CINESE, il più grande d'Inghilterra, risalente ai primi del '900 e delimitato da Mosley e Portland Streets. L'indirizzo da non mancare è tuttavia il 46 di Faulkner Street, dove svetta l'ARCH OF CHINATOWN, la porta d'ingresso ad un quartiere fatto di negozi e coloratissimi mercati, un susseguirsi di ristoranti asiatici di grande qualità.
