Avveneristica, singolare, sempre in evoluzione, lussuosa, immensa. No, Dubai non è una città come le altre, è quella che rappresenta al meglio il progresso tecnologico (a volte, sicuramente, in maniera esagerato...) e la volontà di spingersi sempre un po' più in la. Dove il lusso diventa sfrenato, dove un grattacielo diventa... il più alto al mondo, dove nel mare spunta un complesso residenziale a forma di palma. Walt Disney con il suo "se puoi sognarlo, puoi farlo" sorriderebbe vedendo quello che Dubai diventa anno dopo anno. Anzi no, mese dopo mese, perchè qui il Dio denaro ha saputo in pochi anni creare un luogo dove tutto funziona alla perfezione, tutto è avveniristico e luccicante, dove l'impressione che si ha, almeno per chi la visita per la prima volta (come nel mio caso) è che se "mi venisse un'idea e la proponessi ad un magnate, tra un'anno potrei vederla realizzata".
Futuristic, unique, constantly evolving, luxurious, immense. No, Dubai is not a city like any other. It is the city that best represents technological progress (sometimes, admittedly, in an exaggerated way...) and the desire to always push the boundaries a little further. Where luxury becomes unbridled, where a skyscraper becomes... the tallest in the world, where a palm-shaped residential complex rises out of the sea. Walt Disney, with his “if you can dream it, you can do it,” would smile if he could see what Dubai is becoming year after year. Or rather, month after month, because here, in just a few years, the god of money has created a place where everything works perfectly, everything is futuristic and shiny, where the impression you get, at least if you are visiting for the first time (as in my case), is that if “I had an idea and proposed it to a tycoon, in a year's time I could see it realized.”

Ma, appena superato lo stupore, ecco rivelarsi l'altra faccia di Dubai, quella "vera", quella che non ti mette soggezione e soprattutto quella che non ostenta la sua ricchezza, a volte quasi fastidiosa. Ecco la città araba più tradizionale con i souk traboccanti di mercanzie e profumati di spezie, i Dhow ormeggiati lungo il Creek, l'antico porto, e appena fuori dalla città, l'incantevole deserto, il perfetto connubio tra modernità e tradizione. Ma se ad Abu Dhabi, di cui abbiamo parlato nel precedente post, due giorni sono più che sufficienti per coglierne tutte le principali sfumature, lo stesso non si può dire per Dubai. La sua espansione pare, infatti, inarrestabile e, nonostante l'efficientissima metropolitana, le distanze tra i luoghi turistici (che sono in continuo aumento), sono sempre più importanti.
But once you get over your amazement, be ready to discover the other side of Dubai, the “real” Dubai, the one that doesn't intimidate you and, above all, the one that doesn't flaunt its wealth, which can sometimes be almost annoying. This is the more traditional Arab city with souks overflowing with merchandise and fragrant with spices, the Dhows moored along the Creek, the ancient port, and just outside the city, the enchanting desert, the perfect combination of modernity and tradition. But while two days are more than enough to take in all the main attractions of Abu Dhabi, which we talked about in our previous post, the same cannot be said for Dubai. Its expansion seems unstoppable and, despite the highly efficient metro system, the distances between tourist attractions (which are constantly increasing) are becoming ever greater.

Dubai Marina è molto, molto distante dal Burj Khalifa, la "Frame" si trova a quasi venti chilometri dal Dubai Miracle Garden che a sua volta non è affatto vicino alla "Palma". Distanze che non possono essere trascurate quando si prospetta il miglior itinerario possibile per la visita la città. Ma cosa vedere a Dubai in due giorni? La scelta non è semplice e la suddivisione in aree è fondamentale. Per questo nella prima giornata abbiamo scelto di dedicarci completamente alla zona a ridosso del mare, seguendo tutto il litorale che va dalla Dubai Marina, il punto più a ovest della Dubai turistica, sino al Burj al Arab, la famosa "Vela", lasciando per il day 2 tutti quei luoghi situati nel diciamo così entroterra, dal Burj Khalifa al Dubai Miracle Garden, passando per il Dubai Frame.
Dubai Marina is very, very far from Burj Khalifa, the Frame is almost twenty kilometers from Dubai Miracle Garden, which in turn is not at all close to the “Palm.” These distances cannot be overlooked when planning the best possible itinerary for visiting the city. But what to see in Dubai in two days? The choice is not easy, and dividing the city into areas is essential. That's why on the first day we chose to stay in the area close to the sea, following the entire coastline from Dubai Marina, the westernmost point of tourist Dubai, to Burj al Arab, the famous “Sail,” leaving for day 2 all those places located in the hinterland, from Burj Khalifa to Dubai Miracle Garden, passing through Dubai Frame.

COSA VEDERE A DUBAI IN DUE GIORNI - SI COMINCIA DALLA LUCCICANTE MARINA
A prescindere da dove alloggiate (sarete sempre "distanti" da qualche attrazione turistica), tra le cose da vedere in due giorni a Dubai non può certo mancare Dubai Marina. Ed è proprio qui che solitamente comincia ogni itinerario turistico, anche il nostro nonostante avessimo scelto come base il relativamente economico hotel Villa Rotana (130 euro compreso di cena e colazione), situato non lontanto Burj Khalifa e quindi a più di mezz'ora di metro (quasi 40 minuti...) dalla Marina. La lina rossa che "taglia" in due da nord a sud la città sarà vostra fedele compagna nella due giorni a Dubai, ma una volta raggiunta la Marina potrete tranquillamente muovervi col suggestivo tram che l'attraversa sino ad arrivare alle porte del The Palm Jumeirah.
WHAT TO SEE IN DUBAI IN TWO DAYS - LET'S START WITH THE SPARKLY MARINA
Regardless of where you are staying (you will always be far from many tourist attractions), Dubai Marina is definitely one of the things to see in two days in Dubai. This is where every tourist itinerary usually begins, including ours, even though we chose the relatively inexpensive Villa Rotana hotel (€130 including dinner and breakfast) as our base, located not far from Burj Khalifa and therefore more than half an hour by metro (almost 40 minutes...) from the Marina. The red line that ‘cuts’ the city in two from north to south will be your faithful companion during your two days in Dubai, but once you reach the Marina, you can easily get around on the charming tram that crosses it until you reach the gates of The Palm Jumeirah.

Quando si parla di Dubai Marina si fa accenno al moderno, vivace e dinamico quartiere di Dubai noto non solo per i grattacieli ma anche e soprattutto per il canale artificiale ricco di negozi, bar e ristoranti. Il suo fiore all'occhiello è la Marina Walk, un percorso pedonale che costeggia il canale compiendo una sorta di "loop" tra efidici sostanzialmente uno più bello dell'altro. Da non perdere anche il Marina Mall che insieme agli altri locali rendono vivissima la Promenade ed ovviamente la spiaggia, situata ad un tiro di schioppo dal "The Walk".
When we talk about Dubai Marina, we are referring to the modern, lively, and dynamic district of Dubai known not only for its skyscrapers but also and above all for its artificial canal lined with shops, bars, and restaurants. Its pride and joy is the Marina Walk, a pedestrian path that runs along the canal, forming a sort of loop”- between buildings, each one more beautiful than the last. Also not to be missed is the Marina Mall, which, together with the other venues, brings the Promenade to life, as does the beach, located a stone's throw from “The Walk.”

LA VISTA PIU' BELLA DI DUBAI - THE VIEW AT THE PALM
Dubai Marina confina con uno dei quartieri più esclusivi ma allo stesso tempo affascinante di tutta Dubai, quello di Palm Jumeirah che per tutti è "La Palma". Si tratta di un'isola artificiale a forma ovviamente di palma e qui l'uomo ha svolto davvero un lavoro clamoroso, riuscendo a creare sul mare un qualcosa di davvero significativo. Ma andiamo con ordine, perchè solo il viaggio per raggiungerla vale il viaggio, grazie alla Monorail (i biglietti che avete utilizzato per la metro non sono validi) che percorre i quasi 6 km della Palm Jumeirah consentendo al visitatore di ammirarla da un punto di vista davvero privilegiato.
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VIEW IN DUBAI - THE VIEW AT THE PALM
Dubai Marina borders one of the most exclusive yet charming neighborhoods in all of Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, known to everyone as “The Palm” It is an artificial island shaped like a palm tree, where man has done a truly remarkable job, managing to create something truly significant on the sea. But let's take it one step at a time, because the journey to get there is worth the trip in itself, thanks to the Monorail (the tickets you used for the metro are not valid here) which runs for almost 6 km along Palm Jumeirah, allowing visitors to admire it from a truly privileged vantage point.

Il viaggio comincia dalla stazione “Gateway”, che si trova all’entrata dell’isola, e che puoi raggiungere grazie alla metro (e poi il tram) e potrete fermarvi nelle diverse fermate strategiche, tra cui Nakheel Mall, The Pointe e infine l’Atlantis e il suo enorme parco acquatico ed ovviamente l'hotel. Noi non siamo stati fortunati perchè nel periodo natalizio (2025) la monorail era chiusa per lavori e, l'unico altro modo per raggiungere la "Palma" è tramite taxi o uber. E no, non è la stessa cosa. Al termine della Palma ci sono due hotel iconici, delle città all'interno della città: parliamo del Hotel Atlantis e del vicino Atlantis the Royal. Vale davvero la pena visitarli per rendersi conto di che cosa voglia davvero dire il lusso e soprattutto rendersi conto di come questa isola artificiale sia stata pensata.
The journey begins at the Gateway station, located at the entrance to the island, which can be reached by metro (and then tram). You can stop at various strategic stops, including Nakheel Mall, The Pointe, and finally Atlantis and its huge water park and obviously also the hotel. We were unlucky because during the Christmas period (2025) the monorail was closed for maintenance, and the only other way to reach the “Palm” was by taxi or Uber. And no, it's not the same thing. At the end of The Palm are two iconic hotels, which are very huge: the Atlantis Hotel and the nearby Atlantis the Royal. It is really worth visiting them to understand what luxury really means and, above all, to understand how this artificial island was designed.

Ma l'attrazione che non dovreste davvero perdere una volta raggiunta "la Palma" è The View at The Palm, un enorme grattacielo situato a ridosso del centro commerciale Nakheel Mall. Se ripenso alle due giornate a Dubai... beh, questa è stata la miglior vista in assoluto, meglio ancora di quella avuta nella giornata successiva al Burj Khalifa. Il tramonto poi ha fatto davvero il resto...
But the attraction you really shouldn't miss once you reach “the Palm” is The View at The Palm, a huge skyscraper located next to the Nakheel Mall. When I think back on my two days in Dubai... well, this was the best view ever, even better than the one I had the next day at the Burj Khalifa. The sunset really did the rest...

Tornati sulla costa, salite a bordo del bus numero 8 (viola) ed in una mezz'oretta avrete raggiunto il Souk Madinat Jumeirah. Se dopo tanta modernità avrete voglia di un tradizionale suk (seppur in chiave moderna), questo è davvero il posto che fa per voi. Il Souk Madinat Jumeirha fa parte dell'enorme e suggestivo Resort Madinat Jumeirah e si snoda lungo una serie infinita di viottoli da esplorare. Ci sarà davvero l'imbarazzo della scelta tra profumi di spezie, lanterne luminose, souvenir artigianali e ristoranti alla moda.
Back on the coast, hop on bus number 8 (purple) and you'll reach Souk Madinat Jumeirah in just half an hour. After so much modernity, you'll probably want to visit a traditional souk and this is definitely the place for you. Souk Madinat Jumeirah is part of the huge and impressive Madinat Jumeirah Resort and winds its way through an endless series of alleys to explore. You'll be spoiled for choice with the scent of spices, bright lanterns, handmade souvenirs, and trendy restaurants.

E' qui che abbiamo scelto di spendere la parte finale della nostra giornata, girovagando tra gli oltre 20 ristoranti, le centinaia di negozi e gallerie d'arte, approfittando di una stupenda vista sui canali e sul mare e dell'atmosfera decisamente vivace che lo caratterizza.
This is where we chose to spend the last part of the day, wandering among more than 20 restaurants, hundreds of shops, and art galleries, enjoying a wonderful view of the canals and the sea and the decidedly lively atmosphere that characterizes Souk Madinat Jumeirah.
Prima di tornare in hotel, tuttavia, approfittando della relativa vicinanza, vogliamo avvicinarci ad un altro gioiello architettonico di Dubai, la famosa "Vela", il Burj al Arab. Già dal Souk Madinat Jumeirah si gode di una più che discreta vista sulla Torre degli Arabi, uno degli hotel più lussuosi al mondo tanto che, ai tempi della sua apertura, vantava ben sette stelle.
Before returning to our hotel, however, we want to visit another architectural gem of Dubai, the famous “Sail,” the Burj al Arab which is very close. From the Souk Madinat Jumeirah, you can enjoy a more than decent view of the Tower of the Arabs, one of the most luxurious hotels in the world, so much so that, at the time of its opening, it boasted seven stars.

Noi però vogliamo avvicinarci il più possibile verso Jumeirah Beach (siamo a 15 km a sud di downtown), ben consapevoli che sarà impossibile superare il ponte di 280 metri che collega l'isola artificiale su cui poggia il Burj al Arab con la terraferma. Ma la sua sagoma a forma di vela riusciamo comunque ad ammirarla davvero da vicino, la chiusura perfetta di una prima giornata in cui non ci siamo fatti mancare davvero nulla...
However, we want to get as close as possible to Jumeirah Beach (we are 15 km south of downtown), well aware that it will be impossible to cross the 280-meter bridge connecting the artificial island on which the Burj al Arab stands with the mainland. But we can still admire its sail-shaped silhouette up close, the perfect end to a first day in which we really didn't miss a thing...
