Amsterdam significa anche e soprattutto canali. Ne abbiamo già parlato nel corso del primo post, ma è la seconda giornata quella che abbiamo dedicato, quasi interamente, alla scoperta dei migliori scorci dai quali scattare foto da cartolina. Con l'acqua a fare ovviamente sempre da sfondo. Ci siamo allontanati dalla zona più centrale e turistica della città, quella raccolta tra Binnestad ed il Red Light District, per avventurarci in zone magari un pizzico meno famose ma altrettanto affascinanti, come ad esempio il quartiere di Jordaan e la zona di Grachtengordel, l'area dove sono raccolti i canali più belli. Ma è anche la giornata di Anna Frank, della visita alla sua casa-museo, situata proprio a ridosso del quartiere Jordaan, e del più grande polmone verde dell'area centrale di Amsterdam, il bellissimo Vondelpark, amatissimo da turisti e "locals".
Amsterdam is, above all, synonymous with canals. We already mentioned this in the first post, but during the second day we visited many of them, trying to discover the best spots for taking postcard-perfect photos, with the water, of course, always serving as the backdrop. We ventured away from the city’s most central and touristy area, the one between Binnestad and the Red Light District, to explore neighborhoods that might be a bit less famous but just as charming, such as the Jordaan district and the Grachtengordel area, where the most beautiful canals are concentrated. But it’s also the day dedicatet to Anne Frank, and her house-museum, located right next to the Jordaan neighborhood, and of the largest green space in central Amsterdam, the beautiful Vondelpark, beloved by tourists and locals alike.

La giornata comincia proprio lungo uno dei canali che visiteremo durante la giornata, uno dei quattro anelli di congiunzione (4 canali) tra la zona centralissima di Amsterdam ed il quartiere di Jordaan. E' proprio lungo il canale Pinnsengracht che sorge infatti l'Anne Frank Museum, senza ombra di dubbio uno dei luoghi non solo più iconici ma anche più toccanti di tutta Amsterdam. Quella che un tempo fu la casa-rifugio di Anne Frank è oggi un museo che racconta uno dei capitoli più neri del secolo scorso, la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Anna Frank e la sua famiglia si nascosero qui durante l’occupazione nazista, cercando disperatamente di sfuggire alla persecuzione e all’oppressione. Il tragico destino della famiglia Frank nei campi di concentramento è noto a tutti, ma è grazie al diario personale di Anna che la sua storia è rimasta viva nel tempo e visitando la "casa-museo" potrai passeggiare nell'Alloggio segreto, vedere il diario originale di Anne ed esplorare le mostre sulla sua vita, sull'Olocausto e sui diritti umani.

THE ICONIC AND TOUCHING ANNE FRANK MUSEUM
The second day begins right along one of the canals we’ll visit during the day, one of the four connecting links (4 canals) between Amsterdam’s very center and the Jordaan neighborhood. It is along the Pinnsengracht canal that the Anne Frank Museum stands, without a doubt one of the most iconic and touching places in all of Amsterdam. What was once Anne Frank’s hiding place is now a museum that recounts one of the darkest chapters of the last century: World War II. Anne Frank and her family hid here during the Nazi occupation, desperately trying to escape persecution and oppression. The tragic fate of the Frank family in the concentration camps is well known, but it is thanks to Anne’s personal diary that her story has remained alive over time. By visiting the “house-museum,” you can walk through the Secret Annex, see Anne’s original diary, and explore the exhibits on her life, the Holocaust, and human rights.

Tra le cose da fare ad Amsterdam in 4 giorni non può davvero mancare questo museo, che offre uno sguardo profondamente personale sulla storia, rendendolo educativo e riflessivo. Per visitare l'Anne Frank Museum è indispensabile muoversi per tempo (6 settimane prima della visita), prenotando l'accesso sul sito ufficiale del museo. Dovrete scegliere sia la data che l'orario della visita: il costo del biglietto è di 16.50 euro per gli adulti, 7 euro per i bambini dai 10 ai 17 anni, 1 euro per i bambini da 0 a 9 anni. L'Anne Frank Museum è aperto tutti i giorni dalle 9 alle 22. When planning what to do in Amsterdam in four days, this museum is an absolute must-see; it offers a deeply personal perspective on history, making it both educational and thought-provoking. To visit the Anne Frank Museum, it is essential to plan ahead (6 weeks before your visit) and book the admission to the Museum on the official website. Proprio fuori dall'Anne Frank Museum non potrete non notare l'enorme campanile che svetta sul quartiere Jordaan. E' il Westertoren, una torre di 85 metri che domina questa parte della città di Amsterdam. E' consigliatissimo salire in cima, ma altrettanto interessante è la chiesa che lo ospita, la Westerkerk, conosciuta anche come chiesa dell'Ovest, costruita nel XVII e famosa per ospitare la tomba del pittore olandese Rembrandt e di suo figlio. Fuori dalla chiesa non perdetevi inoltre la piccola statua raffigurante Anne Frank.
Right outside the Anne Frank Museum, you can’t help but notice the huge bell tower rising above the Jordaan neighborhood. It is the Westertoren, an 85-meter-tall tower that dominates this part of Amsterdam. It’s highly recommended to climb to the top, but equally interesting is the church that houses it, the Westerkerk, also known as the West Church, built in the 17th century and famous for housing the tomb of the Dutch painter Rembrandt and his son. Outside the church, don’t miss the small statue of Anne Frank.

Approfittate del fatto che siate qui per la visita all'Anne Frank Museum e per ammirare gli splendidi canali, per passeggiare lungo il particolarissimo quartiere di Jordaan, uno dei più autentici e "veri" di tutta Amsterdam. In questa fase della giornata non avrete bisogno di usufruire dei mezzi pubblici. Tutto è, infatti, a portata di mano, anzi di brevi camminate, come quella per raggiungere prima il Bloemgracht, uno dei canali più belli dell'intero quartiere, e poi quelli dell'anello noto come Grachtengordel, dichiarato Patrimonio dell'Umanità dall'Unesco. Sono tre i canali principali che fanno parte di questo anello: Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht e Herengracht, splendidi gioielli architettonici risalenti al XVII secolo. Ognuno ha il suo fascino e la sua storia. E se Herengracht, ricco di edifici eleganti, un tempo sapeva ospitare l'elite mercantile ed Keizersgracht accoglieva i commercianti più facoltosi, Prinsengracht invece era famoso per ospitare numerosi laboratori e magazzini, presentandosi in maniera totalmente differente rispetto agli altri due. Tra le cose fare ad Amsterdam in quattro giorni, l'anello del "Grachtengordel" è davvero un "must".
At this point in the day, you won’t need to use public transportation. Everything is, in fact, within easy reach, or rather, just a short walk away, such as the short walk to Bloemgracht, one of the most beautiful canals in the entire neighborhood, and then to the canal ring known as the Grachtengordel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are three main canals that make up this ring: Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht, and Herengracht, amazing architectural gems dating back to the 17th century. Each has its own charm and history. While Herengracht, lined with elegant buildings, once housed the merchant elite and Keizersgracht welcomed the wealthiest merchants, Prinsengracht was famous for its numerous workshops and warehouses, a completely different character from the other two. Da non perdere è ovviamente anche l'adiacente Negen Stratjes ("Nove Strade") un piccolo ma romantico quartiere dove troverete boutique, caffè, gallerie d'arte e ristoranti. Soprattutto nel week end, quando si svolgono i mercatini di strada e si tengono spettacoli dal vivo, il "Negen Stratjes" diventa uno dei quartieri più piacevoli di tutta Amsterdam.
Another must-see is, of course, the adjacent Negen Stratjes (“Nine Streets”), a small but charming neighborhood where you'll find boutiques, cafés, art galleries, and restaurants. Especially on weekends, when street markets are held and live performances take place, the Negen Stratjes becomes one of the most delightful neighborhoods in all of Amsterdam.
Raggiungete Konigsplein e salite sul tram. Dopo tre fermate raggiungerete una delle piazze più belle di Amsterdam, Ledsplein, casa anche di uno dei coffe shop più famosi di tutta la città, il "The Bulldog". Ne troverete diversi sparsi per Asmterdam, ma questa potrebbe essere un'ottima occasione per "rilassarsi" prima di riprendere la visita della capitale olandese. Leidseplein, il cui nome deriva da Leidsepoort, l’enorme porta cittadina, demolita nel 1862, che si trovava lungo la strada che collegava la capitale a Leida, è nota anche come fulcro della vita notturna, ma vanta anche un paio di luoghi iconici ad esempio lo Stadsschouwburg, ovvero il teatro progettato da Jan Springer in stile neo-rinascimentale. Oppure l'American Hotel, costruito nel 1902 e poi ristrutturato agli inizi degli anni ottanta, che ospita il Café Américain dall'interessantissimo stile Art Deco.
Head to Koningsplein and hop on the tram. After three stops, you’ll reach one of Amsterdam’s most beautiful squares, Leidseplein, which is also home to one of the city’s most famous coffee shops, “The Bulldog.” You’ll find several of them scattered throughout Amsterdam, but this could be a great opportunity to “unwind” before continuing your tour of the Dutch capital. Leidseplein, whose name derives from Leidsepoort, the massive city gate, demolished in 1862, that stood along the road connecting the capital to Leiden, is also known as the hub of nightlife, but it also boasts a couple of iconic landmarks, such as the Stadsschouwburg, the theater designed by Jan Springer in the Neo-Renaissance style. Or the American Hotel, built in 1902 and renovated in the early 1980s, which houses the Café Américain with its fascinating Art Deco style.

Amsterdam significa canali, biciclette e spazi verdi. Se siete amanti dei parchi, qui avrete pane per i vostri denti. Il fiore all'occhiello è sicuramente il Vondelpark, situato sia vicinissimo al Ledsplein ma anche all'area dei musei che visiteremo nella terza giornata, uno dei luoghi da vedere ad Amsterdam in quattro giorni grazie ai suoi bellissimi prati, gli stagni che accolgono numerosi animali, i boschi rigogliosi e molto altro. Visitato da circa 10 milioni di persone all'anno, il Vondelpark è bellissimo in tutte le stagioni: troverete locali che fanno jogging o sono in sella alla loro immancabile biciletta, turisti curiosi e persone che semplicemente cercano un po' di pace dal trambusto della città.
Amsterdam is all about canals, bicycles, and green spaces. If you love parks, you’ll find bread for your teeth here. The crown jewel is undoubtedly Vondelpark, located very close to Leidseplein as well as the museum district we’ll visit on the third day, one of the must-see spots in Amsterdam in four days thanks to its beautiful lawns, ponds teeming with wildlife, lush woods, and much more. Visited by about 10 million people a year, Vondelpark is beautiful in every season: you’ll find locals jogging or riding their ever-present bicycles, curious tourists, and people simply seeking a bit of peace from the city’s hustle and bustle.

Per concludere la seconda giornata ad Amsterdam e prima di raggiungere il ristorante che vi consiglieremo per cena, godetevi le luci della città tornando nella zona dei canali per ammirare prima il tramonto e poi i ponti e le case che s'illuminano con il calare della notte. I più interessanti sono la confluenza dei canali Keizersgracht e Reguliersgracht (da qui si vedono ben sette ponti), oppure quella tra Leidsegracht e Keizersgracht, dove il riflesso delle luci dei ponti sull’acqua crea uno scenario da cartolina. E per cena? Noi abbiamo scelto Celia at Kimpton De Witt, un ristorante di alto livello (ma avevamo uno sconto importante con l'app "The Fork") che non ha certamente deluso le attese. Ottimi i taco, così come il pollo. I prezzi sono un po' più alti della norma. E ad Amsterdam costa tutto parecchio, ridordatevelo...
To conclude your second day in Amsterdam and before heading to the restaurant we’ll recommend for dinner, enjoy the city lights by returning to the canal district to first watch the sunset and then admire the bridges and houses as they light up at nightfall. The most interesting spots are the confluence of the Keizersgracht and Reguliersgracht canals (from here you can see as many as seven bridges), or the junction between Leidsegracht and Keizersgracht, where the reflection of the bridges’ lights on the water creates a postcard-perfect scene. And for dinner? We chose Celia at Kimpton De Witt, a high-end restaurant (but we had a significant discount with the “The Fork” app) that certainly didn’t disappoint. The tacos were excellent, as was the chicken. Prices are a bit higher than average. And in Amsterdam, everything costs quite a bit. Keep that in mind...
