Valtellina Circuit and Switzerland

Vuoi perchè è Pasqua, vuoi perché non abbiamo trovato particolari offerte a livello di voli, ma siamo arrivati a pochi giorni dalla festività con zero idee in testa e qualcosa da inventarci per il ponte. Poi è arrivata, finalmente, l'ispirazione. Perchè non proviamo finalmente i "bagni vecchi" di Bormio e li uniamo ad una gitarella tra Valtellina e Svizzera. Detto, fatto. La giornata di sabato alle terme, la domenica invece giretto in svizzera...

TERME: bagni vecchi (48 euro)

HOTEL: La Brace (88 euro a camera)

CENA: La Brace (30 euro)

Maybe because it's Easter, maybe because we haven't found any flight offers... but Easter is coming and we don't know what to do. Then, finally, the inspiration... Why don't we go to Bormio at the "Bagni Vecchi" (a unique spa in) and then in Switzerland for two days in the mountains. Yes, let's go!

SPA: Bagni vecchi (48 euros)

HOTEL: La Brace (88 euros)

DINNER: La Brace (30 euros)

Alla fine i nostri 600 e oltre chilometri in due giorni li abbiamo fatti. Un terzo per arrivare a Bormio, attraversando tutta la Valtellina. Tra i "bagni nuovi" e i "vecchi" non abbiamo avuto dubbi: i "vecchi" ovviamente.

More than 400 miles in two days. Crossing the Valtellina we arrive in Bormio. We chose the "Bagni Vecchi" instead of the "Bagni Nuovi" simply because...they are better!

Spendiamo nei bagni, che erano meta ambita sin dall'antichità (http://www.bagnidibormio.it/it/storia-dei-bagni.page), più di cinque ore tra esterno ed interno tra... una caramella e l'altra!

We spend into the "Bagni Vecchi" more than 5 hours: they are also offering candies...

It's a dive into more than 2000 years of history, from the roman bath to the centuries-old grottas which lead from the hot water spring to the panoramic open air pool.

Il pomeriggio vola... e grazie ad un simpatico ragazzo che ci farà la classica foto di rito...

Time flies... we also discover that behind us there are the mountain symbol of a italian water:

scopriamo che dietro di noi c'è la "montagna della Levissima".

Sì, tornare fino a Forcola per dormire non ha molto senso (80 chilometri che il giorno successivo dovremmo ripercorrere) ma Ale ci teneva tantissimo che cenassimo e dormissimo a La Brace. Aveva ragione.

Yes, go back to sleep until Forcola does not make much sense (80 km far from Bormio) but Ale really wanted to have dinner at "La Brace". She was right. 

C'era una grande sorpresa: Ale aveva, infatti riservato una delle salette caratteristiche (15 euro in più)... e cenare lì è davvero molto, molto carino.

There is a big surprise: Ale has booked a private dining rooms (for 15 euros) ...  really, really amazing. 

Siamo noi, il tavolo ed il camino. Super!

La giornata successiva ci porterà in Svizzera, ma la prima tappa sarà ancora interamente sul suolo italico: Tirano, dove ritireremo i prodotti tipici che la giornata prima avevamo prenotato (bresaola su tutti) e daremo il via al nostro personalissimo "Bernina express": il famosissimo trenino rosso che congiunge Tirano e St Moritz e che per diversi motivi (costo ed esaurimento posti per la giornata di Pasqua) avevamo scartato. Ma con la macchina proveremo a rimediare...

The next day leads us to Switzerland, but the first step is Tirano, in Italy, where we buy typical local products and where we start our personal "Bernina Express" trail: the famous red train that connects St Moritz and Tirano. Of course by car...

... è già Svizzera.

E capiamo immediatamente perchè il Bernina Express è così famoso...

I paesaggi sono ovviamente da cartolina, ma la grande sorpresa è la neve: non ce l'aspettavamo ed invece ce n'è davvero tanta...

Landscapes are of course amazing, but the big surpris is... the snow: we didn't expect to find it!

Pizzetta e torta alle carote che ci gusteremo sul lungo lago (per metà ancora ghiacciato) di St Moritz.

Two slices of pizza and a carrot cake is our lunch along: we eat close to the lake.

Sulla strada del ritorno l'ultima tappa è Chiavenna: un caffè nel carinissimo centro storico è la degna conclusione della due giorni "alpina". Una gita "diversa" da quello a cui siamo abituati, ma sicuramente molto, molto affascinante.

On the way back the last stage is Chiavenna: a coffe in the old town is the best conclusion to the two days in the mountains. A"different" trip from what we're used to, but definitely very, very charming.
