Cuba: alma Latina (part 3)

Sei a Cuba e non vedi la sua capitale, La Havana? No, non possiamo non andarci, ma questa volta niente escursione programmata. Ci affidiamo all'animatore Alberto che in meno di un attimo capisce la situazione: "Domani fatevi trovare fuori dal villaggio in questo punto, passerà un mio amico e vi porterà dove vorrete andare per tutto il giorno". Non c'è neanche bisogno di aggiungere che spendiamo un quinto di quello che avremmo speso affidandoci al villaggio, dividendo la spesa per quattro persone (noi e i nostri ormai immancabili compagni di viaggio). L'amico è un tassista che, prima di farci avventurare per l'Havana ci dice "vi porto a bere la miglior pina colada di Cuba...". "Ma son le 9.30 del mattino" replichiamo noi. "Vi porto a bere...". Ok, ci porta a bere. Qui si fa così. Ci fermiamo in un punto panoramico...

You are in Cuba and don't visit its capital, La Havana? Of course you have to go there! but this time no excursion planned.  Alberto, the animator, in less than a minute understands the situation: "Tomorrow my friend will pick you up outside the village and will take you where you want to go all day long", We save alot of money and do what we want!. Alberto's friend is a taxi driver who tells us, "We are going to drink the best pina colada  in Cuba ..". "But it's 9.30 in the morning," we reply. "We are going to...". Ok, ok... let's drink...

e si comincia a bere. Ad onor del vero va detto che era davvero buona...

We start drinking soon in the morning. But this pina colada is very very good!

Arriviamo a La Havana e capiamo immediatamente di essere in un posto del tutto particolare...

We arrive in Havana and we immediately understand  to be in a special place ...

La prima tappa è il museo del rum.

The first stop is the museum of rum. 

E' un posto molto turistico, ma riusciamo comunque non solo a vedere come lo producono...

It 'a very touristic place, but at least we see how they produce rum...

ma anche a berlo.

but also to drink it.

Facciamo la consueta amicizia con un personaggio del posto che ci avverte: "non comprate nello shop, costa molto di più... E' per i turisti, venite con me". Ci porta in uno scantinato senza farsi vedere dai suoi superiori e con "due lire" (e una confezione di amuchina!) ci dà 6 bottiglie del rum più buono al mondo, il Legendario.

We become friends with a character of the museum that warns us: "Do not buy in the shop, it costs a lot more ... It's for tourists! You should come with me." he takes us in a basement without being seen by his superiors and with "two cents" (and a pack of liquid soap!) gives us 6 bottles of the best rum in the world, the Legendario.

Dopo aver lasciato il museo del rum ed aver fatto un bel giretto intorno al campidoglio, ci dirigiamo verso quella che sarà la tappa più bella della giornata, la fabbrica del tabacco. Capiamo subito che l'aria è diversa, il nostro autista è quasi sorpreso dalla richiesta, accosta la macchina e parla con qualcuno all'interno della fabbrica stessa.

After leaving the museum of rum, and have made a nice walk around the capitol, we go to the most beautiful place of the day, the tobacco factory. We understand  immediately that the air is different, our driver is almost surprised by the request, pull over the car and talk to someone within the factory. 

Dopo qualche tentennamento ci permettono (gratuitamente) di entrare, con l'unica raccomandazione di restare in silenzio e non fare foto. Capiamo subito il perchè. Non è un posto turistico, qui si lavora sul serio e gli stessi lavoratori sono quasi sorpresi nel vederci. Restiamo ammaliati: la musica di sottofondo è allegra, loro sorridono...e non sbagliano davvero un colpo nel selezionare le foglie di tabacco per realizzare il sigaro.

They allow us (for free) to enter, with the only recommendation to remain silent and not taking pictures. We understand now why. It is not a tourist place, people are working seriously and the workers are almost surprised to see us. We remain fascinated: the background music makes people happy, they smile ... and they never make mistakes selecting tobacco leaves to make a cigar. 

Facciamo amicizia con qualche bimbo... soprattutto con una splendida ragazzina che ci chiede con insistenza delle caramelle. Non le abbiamo con noi e ripariamo con qualche monetina, pensando di farla felice... Invece non sorride. No, c'è qualcosa che non va, a Cuba ridono sempre...

We become friends with some little guys. Especially with a girl that asks for a candy. We don't have them with us, so we give her some coins... but she isn't smiling, she isn't happy. It's too strange, people always smile here!

Giriamo per la città e, dopo una mezz'oretta buona la ritroviamo. Ci guarda, indicandoci una sorta di alimentari. Entriamo e le compriamo un bel po' di caramelle ed una coca cola... eccolo il sorriso! In villaggio chiederemo poi ad Alberto come mai avesse apprezzato maggiormente le caramelle invece dei soldi, con i quali avrebbe potuto comprare molte più cose. "Semplice - ci dice - quei soldi finiranno nelle mani dei genitori e mai e poi mai verranno usati per delle caramelle o  per una coca cola...".

We visit te old town and, after a good half hour, we see her again. She looks at us, showing us a kind of food-shop. Of course we buy her a lot of candy and a coke ... She is smiling!!!  Why does she prefer candy instead of money? Alberto tells us  that money will end up in the hands of parents and never, ever be used for candy or a coke ...".

Ecco, pur essendo La Havana molto tranquilla e sicura per un turista, non mancherà qualche personaggio che vorrà approfittarsi di voi, chiedendovi di comprar loro qualcosa che sarebbe altrimenti impossibile per proprie tasche. Intanto non poteva mancare una sosta al museo del cioccolato...

Well, even if Havana is pretty quite and safe for the tourist, there is always someone who wants  to take advantage of you, asking you to buy them something that would otherwise be impossible to nuy for them. Meanwhile, we could not miss a visit to the chocolate museum ... 

e neppure al porto...

and even to the harbour.

Notiamo anche la Bodega de Caridad, con all'interno delle persone che crediamo siano pronte a raccogliere quello che settimanalmente-o mensilmente spetta loro a diritto secondo i dettami del regime comunista dettato da Castro. 

We also see the Bodega de Caridad: inside it there are people who are ready to pick up what (weekly or monthly) it is their right to receive according to the dictates of the communist regime dictated by Castro.

Si tratta dell'hotel più famoso (e prestigioso) di Cuba, dove non c'è personalità di spicco che non ci sia passata e sia finita nel "wall of fame". Per la gioia dell'Ale ci sono anche i Backstreet Boys!

It is the most famous (and most prestigious) hotel of Cuba, many important people have been here! Even the Backstreet Boys and Ale is very happy.

E prima di rientrare al villaggio, non poteva mancare la consueta foto di rito con i "companeros", con l'aggiunta del nostro mitico "autista per un giorno".

And before coming back to the village, the usual photo with the "companeros", with the addition of our legendary "driver for a day."
