POS. 1: WHITE SANDS NATIONAL PARK
Il post numero 100 è anche quello che ci regala la posizione numero uno del nostro viaggio lungo i venti luoghi più incredibili che abbiamo visitato. Un percorso lungo, dove ovviamente c'è stata tantissima America (per scelta non abbiamo inserito luoghi italiani) ma non poteva essere altrimenti, complice il nostro amore per quelle terre. E non sorprende, ovviamente, che anche il numero uno della nostra speciale classifica sia negli Stati Uniti, in uno stato poco considerato dai viaggiatori (anche dagli stessi americani, che preferiscono le coste: atlantica e pacifica), famoso probabilmente più per il telefilm Breaking Bad che per le sue bellezze. Eppure è il più bello stato tra i cinquanta che compongono gli Stati Uniti, il più magico.
The post number 100 is also the one that gives us the position number of our journey along the twenty most incredible places we have visited. A long path, where obviously there was a lot of USA but it's a little bit obvious thanks to our love for the this country. It is not surprising, of course, that the number one of our special ranking is located into the United States, in a state not so much considered by travelers (even by the Americans, who prefer the coasts: Atlantic and Pacific), probably best known for the TV series Breaking Bad rather than its beauties. This is the most beautiful state between the fifty of the United States, the most magical.
E magico è sicuramente il White Sands National Park sul quale non abbiamo mai avuto dubbi: tutto il resto della classifica sarebbe stato opinabile, non la posizione numero uno. Quella era per le White Sands, situate nello stato del New Mexico nella cittadina di Alamogordo.
A magic place is definitely the White Sands National Park. We have never had doubts: the rest of the rankings could have been questionable, not the position number one. That place is for the White Sands NP, located in the state of New Mexico, in the town of Alamogordo.
Sì, lo sappiamo, per molti di voi sarà una scelta sorprendente, in realtà non lo è poi così tanto: mettete insieme il cielo più bello e grande del mondo, quello del New Mexico, mettete un parco naturale poco affollato (con un pizzico di fortuna potreste anche esser soli...) ed una sabbia finissima, bianca.... Lo dice il nome stesso, le dune del White Sands National Park sono bianche come neve.
Yes, we know, for many of you it will be a surprising choice, actually it is not that much: you should put together the most beautiful sky and the world's largest one, the New Mexico sky, put a natural park uncrowded (with a bit of lucky you might even be alone ...) and a fine sand, white .... as the name says, the dunes of white Sands National Park are white as snow.
O meglio, come gesso! Già, sono composte da minuscoli cristalli di questo minerale, ridotte in polvere dall'azione erosiva del vento lungo i 700 chilometri quadrati del parco, il più grande del mondo a livello di dune di gesso. Uno spettacolo rarissimo, anzi unico.
Or better, like gypsum! Yes, they are composed of tiny crystals of this mineral, pulverized by the erosive action of winds on the 700 km2 of the park, the largest "dune-gypsun" park in the world. A show very rare, or better unique.
Arrivate al visitor center, acquistate i ticket (3 dollari per persona, no non è uno scherzo!) e percorrete la scenic drive con la vostra macchina fermandovi ai vari view point.
You should stop at the visitor center, purchase the ticket ($ 3 per person, no it is not a joke!) and drive along the scenic drive with your car, stopping at different view point.
Lì potrete sbizzarrirvi in foto, scalate delle dune e...se siete abbastanza avventurosi, scendere dalle dune stesse con una sorta di slittino che potrete noleggiare al visitor center.
You can take a lot of pictures, climb the dunes ... and if you are adventurous enough, go down the dunes with a kind of sledding: it can be rented at the visitor center.
In New Mexico i flash flood, le inondazioni improvvise, sono all'ordine del giorno nei periodi estivi e noi ne siamo stati protagonisti come testimoniano le foto, con il cielo nerissimo.
During the summer time flash flood are typical in New Mexico and, as you can see in the in the background, we haven't been very lucky with the sky...
Nonostante fossimo stati costretti a rimanere poco dentro al parco, è rimasto nel nostro cuore e contiamo di tornarci.
Although we were forced to stay inside the park just for an hour, White Sands National Park has a special place in our hearts and our plan is to return soon.
Il motivo? Semplice, il tramonto, nel già citato cielo più bello del mondo, è un qualcosa di immaginifico, ma come sapete noi con i tramonti non andiamo molto d'accordo.
The resason? It's simple: sunset, in the most beautiful sky of the world, is something impressive, but as you know we do not get along with the sunsets....

P.S. Abbiamo stilato questa classifica nel 2014. Da quel giorno altri luoghi sono entrati nel nostro cuore e sicuramente meriterebbero di entrare nella top 20. Non faremo più ranking, ma ci limiteremo ad aggiungerli, scegliete voi poi in quale posizione inserirli
We made this ranking in 2014. Since then other places have entered in our heart and definitely deserve to get into the top 20. We will not make other rankings, but we will just add the places, you then choose what position they deserve!
