This is probably the most particular state of the Entire Unites States, uninhabited in many areas and very, very religious. In Utah everyhing starts and ends with the religious community of Mormons, which influences both culture and day life in the most religious state, with the highest birth rate in America. It's populated almost entirely by "whites" as many of the west states and here laws regarding alcohol, tobacco, and much more are very strict. This is not a state where we would like to live (there are several restrictions and you can find people very very religious: if you have seen the tv series "big love", you would certainly understand ...), but one of the best to visit. It is a state with few equals if we talk about nature. And not just because it has a part of Monument Valley, shared with Arizona, and because its mountains are the most beautiful in America (Park City is a stage of the ski World Cup). Here there is much, much more and if you are tired of nature remember that Nevada and in particular Las Vegas is close enough....

BRYCE CANYON & ZION NATIONAL PARK
I pinnacoli del Bryce Canyon, bellissimi, faranno sì che saranno in tanti a mettere questo parco in cima alla propria lista, davanti magari anche a mostri sacri come il Grand Canyon o la Monument Valley. Siamo sud ovest, poco sopra lo Zion, in un contesto naturale con pochissimi eguali. E proprio lo Zion, non lontano dal Bryce e neppure dal confine con Arizona e Nevada, offre un paesaggio variegato. Si passa da cascate a imponenti formazioni rocciose, da canyons a magnifiche viste regalate dalle "scenic drive". Li abbiamo uniti per poter aggiungere in coda un altro luogo alla nostra top ten, ma non son parchi visitabili in una sola giornata.
The beautiful Bryce Canyon pinnacles convince many people to put this park at the top of their personal list, maybe even in front of giants such as the Grand Canyon or Monument Valley. We are in the southwest, just above Zion National Park, in a natural setting with few equals. Zion, not far from Bryce Canyon and even from the Arizona and Nevada borderline offers varied landscape. From waterfalls to towering rock formations, from canyons to magnificent views given by the "scenic drives". It takes at least two days to visit both the parks.

Ordinata, pulita, lontana anni luce dalle altre città americane. Questa è Salt Lake City. Il "Mormon Temple", il tempio dei Mormoni, è ovviamente l'attrazione principale di una città famosa anche per il suo lago salato, il secondo al mondo (dopo il mar morto), per percentuale di salinità.
Liveable, clean, very different from the other American cities. This is Salt Lake City. The "Mormon Temple" is obviously the main attraction of a city which is also famous for its salt lake, the second in the world (after the Dead Sea), by percentage of salinity.
UTAH STATE ROUTE 12 SCENIC BWAYS
In un "on the road" potrebbe anche essere una strada che vi troverete a percorrere. Dovesse succedere, significa che state lasciando il Bryce Canyon in direzione Salt Lake City o Moab (o viceversa). Verrete catapultati in un'altra dimensione (non è da meno neppure la UT24 che si collega proprio alla UT12), sarete voi, la strada ed un paesaggio che cambia in continuazione. Doveste percorrerla, assaporatene ogni miglio...
In a Utah"on the road" this is the road, the best road. If you driving along the UT12 it means that you are leaving Bryce Canyon and going to Moab or Salt Lake City (or vice versa). You'll be catapulted into another dimension: it's you, your car and a landscape which is constantly changing.
ARCHES NATIONAL PARK
Situato a ridosso di Moab (sud est), per certi versi è il più affascinante parco dello Utah, con i suoi immensi archi (più di 2000) di natura arenaria. L'arco più famose, il Delicate, è tanto famoso da essere il simbolo di moltissime targhe dello stato ed è meta ambita soprattutto al tramonto. Anche il Double Arch (Ulk e Indiana Jones e l'ultima crociata furono girati qui) con l'azzurro del cielo estivo dello Utah regala immagini mozzafiato.
Located near Moab (southeast), in some ways it's the most charming park in Utah, with its immense sandstone arches (over 2000). The most famous arch, the Delicate Arch, is very famous: it's the symbol of many plates of the state and is a popular destination especially at sunset. The Double Arch (Ulk and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade were filmed here) with the blue summer sky offers stunning images.
CANYONLANDS NATIONAL PARK
E' il parco più grande dello Utah (anche qui non siamo lontani da Moab), in sostanza è come se ce ne fossero tre in uno. Canyon enormi, più grandi e probabilmente anche più affascinanti del Grand Canyon. Island in the Sky è il punto, tra quelli turistici, che vi regalerà il panorama migliore.
Canyonlands National Park is the largest park in Utah (we are still not far from Moab). Huge canyons, the biggest and probably the most fascinating, even more than the Grand Canyon. Island in the Sky is the tourist place that will give you the best view.
CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL PARK
Situato nel cuore dello stato (lo troverete all'inizio o alla fine della UT12), è considerato "uno tra i segreti meglio conservati" dello Utah. Infatti, nonostante le sue straordinarie peculiarità non registra le folle di visitatori che invece riempiono gli altri parchi dello stato, restando perciò un'oasi apprezzata dai coloro che fuggono il turismo di massa. Uno dei motivi per cui non sia molto frequentato è dovuto alla scarsità di accessi ed alla povertà di strade asfaltate.
Located in the heart of the state (you'll find it at the beginning or end of the UT12), it is considered "one of the best kept secrets" of Utah. In fact, despite its extraordinary peculiarities, Capitol Reef is not as touristy as other parks in the state, it's a sort of oasis appreciated by those are escaping from the more famous and crowded parks. Two of the reasons why it is not very popular are: scarcity of access and poverty of paved roads.
GRAND STAIRCASE ESCALANTE NATIONAL MONUMENT
Se siete in possesso di un "4x4" e siete esperti di guida sullo sterrato, prendete la "paradise canyon road" (il nome dice già tutto) a ridosso di Kanab (sud ovest dello stato) e percorretela sino a raggiungere il Grand Staircase-Escalante Monument. E' enorme, più grande di molti parchi nazionali nonostante sia "soltanto" un "national monument" ed i suoi canyon sono tra i più belli. Anche qui, per affrontare i trail, serve una certa preparazione...
If you are driving a four wheels vehicle and are an experienced driver on dirty roads, take the "paradise canyon road", near Kanab (southwest of the state) and drive until you reach the Grand Staircase- Escalante Monument. It's huge, larger than many national parks despite being "only" a "national monument" and its canyon are probably among the most beautiful. Be careful when you hike along the trails...
DEAD HORSE POINT STATE PARK
Se volete avere una fantastica visuale sul fiume Colorado e sul vicinissimo Canyonlands National Park, in particolare al tramonto, questo è il vostro posto. A differenza dell'Horseshoe bend, il cui nome deriva dalla sua forma a ferro di cavallo, il Dead Horse, anch'esso comunque della medesima forma, deriva il suo nome da una leggenda che narra come un tempo fosse un luogo dove venivano tenuti i cavalli in recinto con un lato a strapiombo: una volta lasciati per troppo tempo senz'acqua alcuni morirono guardando il fiume da lontano senza alcuna possibilità di raggiungerlo. Qui sono inoltre state girate alcune scene di Mission Impossible e Thelma&Louise.
If you want to have a fantastic view of the Colorado River and Canyonlands National Park, especially at sunset, this is your place. Unlike Horseshoe bend, whose name comes from its shape, the Dead Horse name comes from a legend that tells how once it was a place where were kept horses in a corral with a overhanging side: once cowboys left horses without water for too long and some of them died watching the river from a distance without any chance to escape and reach it. Some scenes of Mission Impossible and Thelma & Louise were filmed here...
CORAL PINK SAND DUNES STATE PARK
Le più belle dune di sabbia le trovate qui, a Kanab (sud ovest), nel Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. Con i loro colori rosa, queste dune vi sorprenderanno e soprattutto vi regaleranno un fuori programma di un'oretta mentre vi state dirigendo verso il Bryce Canyon o, in caso contrario, a Page. Con 70 dollari è inoltre possibile effettuare anche escursioni in Quad...
You'll find the best Utah's sand dunes here in Kanab (southwest), into the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. With their beautiful pink color, the dunes will surprise and give you a particular view of this part of Utah while you are driving to Bryce Canyon or Page. BEAR LAKE STATE PARK
Un lago con colori che solamente il mar dei caraibi sa regalare? Esiste, esiste. Il vostro indirizzo è il Bear Lake State Park (soprannominato "Caribbean of the rockies", nord est dello stato, al confine con l'Idaho). Sul perchè ci siano questi colori non ci soffermiamo troppo, nel west può succedere di tutto con la natura e ormai l'avrete imparato anche voi. Ah, se doveste visitarlo, sappiate che la leggenda dice che viva un mostro all'interno di questo lago, il Bear Lake Monster...
