F di..Fiorentina, of course - I tre itinerari per scoprire Firenze a piedi (Day 1 - itinerary 1)

Cosa fai quando scovi su internet uno sconto per acquistare il biglietto del treno di "Italo" ed da qualche mese non stai parlando d'altro di quanto sia buona la "fiorentina"? Risposta esatta... si va a Firenze! Questo è ciò che abbiamo fatto fatto durante il week end di San Valentino: siamo partiti il venerdì mattina da Milano, stazione centrale, e in un'ora e quaranta minuti buoni abbiamo raggiunto la stazione di Santa Maria Novella a Firenze.

What do you do when you get a discount for a train ticket and you really want to eat a good "fiorentina" steak (a typical italian steak: you'll find the best one is in Tuscany and especially in Florence)? Easy... let's buy the ticket to Florence!That's what we've done for the St. Valentine's week-end: we left Milan on friday morning and reached the Santa Maria Novella Station in Florence in just one hour and forty minutes.

Tempo di lasciare i trolley in hotel e siamo già alla scoperta di Firenze. Il primo stop è il mercato centrale al coperto: un grande mercato su due piani, in quello inferiore si trovano stand in cui vengono venduti prodotti freschissimi. Si va dalla carne al pesce, dalla frutta ai dolci.

Just the time to leave our luggage in the hotel and we immediately hit the main roads of the city. The first stop is the Covered Central Market, a huge covered market. In the first floor there are stalls which sell fresh products: from meat to fish, from sweets to fruit.

Mentre al piano superiore una serie di bar e ristoranti offrono le specialità toscane.

At the top floor bar and restaurants offer the main tuscany specialties.

Essendo ora di pranzo ci dividiamo un piatto di maccheroncini al ragù di cinghiale e, subito dopo essere usciti dal mercato, dimostriamo a noi stessi di essere pronti per fare i... fiorentini. Come? Assaggiando in uno dei numerosi stand a bordo strada il "mitico" Lampredotto. Missione, definiamola così, riuscita bene ma non benissimo. Il lampredotto è infatti uno dei quattro stomaci del bovino e se non si è abituati a questi sapori così forti, si fa un po' di fatica a mandarlo giù...

It's lunch time so we split a portion of pasta with boar meat and after that we stop in one of the famous old town stalls. Why? We are acting like locals and  taste another Florence's specialty: the lampredotto sandwich! Actually it's quite disgusting couldn't finish it. Its taste is maybe too much for us. Lampredotto is, in fact, one of the four stomach of the bovine. 

Con la pancia (quasi piena) può ufficialmente iniziare il primo itinerario. Abbiamo, infatti, deciso di suddividere la città in tre parti...

Now we can definitely begin the trip with the first itinerary: we've in fact split the city into three parts...

La prima è quella legata al Centro Storico, partendo quindi da Piazza del Duomo ed oltrepassando il Campanile di Giotto...

The first one is in the historical city center, starting from Piazza del Duomo with its Bell Tower designed by Giotto.

Camminando per le strette vie della città vecchia arriviamo davanti alla casa museo di Dante, dove il celebre poeta visse anni or sono.

Walking through the narrow streets of the city we get to the Home-Museum of Dante, where the famous poet lived years and years ago.

Proseguendo per qualche isolato ci raggiungiamo Piazza Signoria; qui
sorgono Palazzo Vecchio, che è la sede attuale del comune cittadino e museo, e alla sua destra e la Loggia dei Lanzi, dove vi sono collocate alcune statue famose come il Perseo di Benvenuto Cellini.
In Piazza della Signoria ammiriamo anche la Fontana del Nettuno di Ammannati ed il monumento equestre di Cosimo I del Giambologna.

Keep walking we reach the famous Piazza Signoria: in this square you can admire Palazzo Vecchio (which is the town hall and also a museum) and just on the right even the "Loggia dei Lanzi", where some famous statues as the Perseo by Benvenuto Cellini are located. In Piazza della Signoria there is also the Nettuno's Fountain by Ammannati and the equestrian monument by Cosimo I del Giambologna.

La Galleria Degli Uffizi è situata proprio a pochi metri da Palazzo Vecchio. Ma ormai ci conoscete se siete nostri lettori ed avrete già intuito che, nonostante il cielo minacci pioggia, noi optiamo per la visita della città anziché del museo. Apriamo i nostri ombrelli e proseguiamo dritto fino ad arrivare sul lungo Arno da dove si ammira Ponte Vecchio, uno dei simboli dell'intera città di Firenze.

Just few steps from palazzo vecchio there is the "Galleria degli Uffizi", the most famous museum of Florence. Well. you know how we are and can imagine that although is a rainy day we prefer to visit the city instead of staying in a musem. We then reach the Arno River from where we can see the beautiful Ponte Vecchio.

Attraversiamo Ponte Vecchio accompagnati dalle varie gioiellerie sino ad arrivare nella zona dell'Oltrarno, da dove comincerà il nostro itinerario numero 2...

We cross the bridge that is full of jewelrys and reach the "Oltrarno" area, where  our itinerary number 2 begins...
