The Ultimate Guide To Niagara Falls - Canadian side

The Niagara Falls have always been one of the great dreams of every tourist, especially for we Europeans, attracted by the majesty of a place that is unmatched anywhere in the world. (only Iguazu Falls in South America and Victoria Falls in Africa can compete), but they're so far and not easy to place during a road trip to North America. And then, which side will you have to choose when visiting the Niagara Falls? The Canadian side or the American side? How many days to spend at the Niagara Falls? They're all legitimate questions. We will try provide rather detailed answers in this in-depth post where we will tell you everything about the side of the falls that, in our opinion, is not only the most fascinating, but also the one that offers the best entertainment if you are visiting Niagara Falls with your children. We are obviously talking about the Canadian side ...

(Horseshoe Falls - Niagara Falls)

THE MYTH OF NIAGARA FALLS
Although they're not particularly high (52 meters), the Niagara Falls (pronounced "Naiagra") are undoubtedly among the most famous water jumps in the world. The reason is very simple: an enchanting scenery linked to the imposing falls, a complex of three distinct waterfalls originating from the same river, the Niagara. The horseshoe falls (for the semicircular shape), also known as canadian fall, are separated from the American falls, on the US side, from Goat Island and from the smaller Bridal Veil Falls.

What makes the context even more magical is its geographical position. The Niagara Falls are, in fact, located between United States and Canada ...

(Horsehoe Falls - Niagara Falls)

NIAGARA FALLS, WHICH IS THE BEST SIDE?
The dutiful premise is that both sides, both Canadian and American, have a lot to offer and, if you have two days to spend at Niagara Falls, we recommend you to don't miss them both. After all, you just need to cross the Rainbow Bridge to get from the United States to Canada and viceversa and visit both sides of the falls.

(Journey Behind The Falls - Niagara Falls)

But if you got just one day, then there is no doubt that the Niagara Falls side to visit is the Canadian one and not only for the privileged position from which you can admire the Horseshoe Falls, the most beautiful falls in the Niagara area..

IL MEGLIO DELLE CASCATE DEL NIAGARA - LATO CANADESE

1- Niagara Falls City

THE BEST OF NIAGARA FALLS - CANADIAN SIDE

1- Niagara Falls City
Begin your adventure at the Niagara Falls from the city of Niagara Falls, the picturesque town that takes its name from the waterfalls. Public car parking are not really cheap, so we suggest you to leave your car in one of the side streets of the city, close to Clifton Hill. The Niagara Falls walking tour starts right here, from Clifton Hill, the beating heart of Niagara Falls. We must be honest: purists will be disappointed by the city located near the falls, a kind of small Las Vegas that jars with the beautiful natural environment in which the falls are located.

(Niagara Falls)

But the Canadian side, as we said, is also designed for families and, above all, for children. They will will find their little paradise here, made up of adventures, games, rides, special shops and a truly joyous atmosphere overall. Do not get too influenced by the "tourist trap" that is Niagara Falls: it is a kind of experience when visiting the most famous waterfalls in the world.

9 - Falls at night
If you were charmed by the Niagara Falls by day, it will be hard to find the words when you look at them again in the evening, illuminated by artificial lights. A very special play of lights, which represent the worthy conclusion of your trip to Niagara Falls. And do not forget the amazing fireworks show, which, weather permitting, are offered during the summer. We recommend to consult timetables and dates here: https://www.niagarafallstourism.com/fireworks/

The best kept secret of the Niagara Falls area is, to be honest, about twenty 15 miles from the falls. We are obviously talking about the enchanting town of Niagara on the Lake, with its wooden houses built in 1700s, the gardens and the relaxed atmosphere that makes it a popular destination for tourists, Canadians and Americans in particular. It is no coincidence that for generations locals have spoken about "Niagara on the Lake Effect", which you will definitely notice while visiting its Historical District (Queen St and Picton St). When you're driving from Niagara Falls to Niagara on The Lake, you can not also miss the many wineries that produce the iconic ice wine, a type of dessert wine produced from grapes that have been frozen while still on the vine. You will be spoiled for choice: one of the most famous is The Ice House Winery, open from 1.00 am to 5.30 pm.

(Ice Wine Tasting - Niagara on the Lake)

We, on the other hand, preferred to visit (for its italian roots) the equally famous Pillitteri Estates Winery, where we tasted for the first time the amazing Ice Wine. Tours are offered daily and you can choose between different "taste options": https://www.pillitteri.com/tours-and-tastings/. Before going back to the falls, though, do not forget to visit the Picard Peanuts (1835 Niagara Stone rd) that has been producing and selling for more than 30 years the legendary Canadian peanuts and, if you love lavender, the Neob Lavender - Niagara Essential Oil & Bleds (758 Niagara Ston Rd).
