10 THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN MINNEAPOLIS IN ONE DAY

Natura, arte e modernità. Dovessimo riassumere in tre parole la città di Minneapolis probabilmente sceglieremmo queste per definire una delle città più intriganti (tra quelle meno famose) del nord degli Stati Uniti ma allo stesso tempo davvero scomode da inserire in un road trip a stelle strisce. E' un mid-west "troppo poco mid-west" (il Canada è lì ad un passo), e la fantastica "Real America", l'area che comprende South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, Montana ed Idaho è vicina ma non vicinissima: eppure se doveste mai avere l'occasione, il consiglio è quello di spendere almeno una giornata visitando la principale città dello stato Minnesota, conosciuta negli Stati Uniti come la "twin city" per via della vicinanza (20 km) con la sua città gemella (ma meno famosa), St Paul. La città di sviluppa a ridosso del fiume Mississippi, il "Grande Fiume" americano, che nasce poco più a nord e la costeggia, quasi proteggendola: è il primo grande approccio con una natura che a Minneapolis, ma sarebbe meglio dire in tutto lo stato del Minnesota, è grande protagonista. 

Nature, art, and modernity. If we had to sum up the city of Minneapolis in three words, we would probably choose these to define one of the most intriguing (of the lesser-known) cities in the northern United States but at the same time really difficult to fit in a road trip. It is a mid west far from Chicag and the Route 66 (Canada is  just there at a stone's throw), and the amazing “Real America,” the area that includes South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, Montana and Idaho is close but not very close: yet if you should ever get the chance, the advice is to spend at least a day visiting the main city in the state of Minnesota, known in the United States as the “twin city” because of its proximity (20 km) to its twin (but less famous) city, St Paul. The city is developed close to the Mississippi River, America's “Great River,” which has its source a little further north and skirts it, almost protecting it: it is the first major approach to a nature that in Minneapolis, but it would be better to say in the whole state of Minnesota, is the main protagonist.

Come lo sono i laghi, tanto che un altro dei suoi soprannomi è "The city of Lakes", presenti in tutto lo stato in grandissima quantità. Ah, sono talmente tanti che se doveste mai scoprirne uno voi potreste dargli addirittura il nome. Esatto, solo in America! Natura ma non solo, qui troverete il centro commerciale più grande degli Stati Uniti, il Mall of America, situato a ridosso del Minneapolis-St Paul Airport, edifici decisamente moderni e tanta tantissima arte ospitata nei musei cittadini. "Minnie", come la chiamano i locals, ha tuttavia molti pregi, ma anche un grande difetto... il freddo! Già, il freddo, tremendo durante l'inverno, tanto che per il downtown è stato varato un sistema collegamenti pedonali coperti e sopraelevati lungo ben 18 km (Skyway System), che permettono di passare da un edificio all'altro limitando i disagi arrecati dal meteo. 

As the lakes, so much so that Minneapolis is also called “The city of Lakes,” which are present throughout the state in huge numbers. Well, there are so many that if you ever discover a new lake, you might even name it. That's right, only in America! Nature but not only that: here you will find the largest shopping mall in the United States, the Mall of America, located close to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport, decidedly modern buildings and lots and lots of art housed in city museums. “Minnie,” as locals call it, has many merits, however, but also one major flaw...the cold! Yep, the cold, tremendous during the winter, so much so that a system of covered, elevated pedestrian links as long as 18 kilometers (Skyway System) has been launched for downtown. It let people get from one building to another limiting the inconvenience caused by the weather.

10 COSA VEDERE A MINNEAPOLIS IN UN GIORNO 

1) MINNEHAHA FALLS 

Anche io, come molti dei viaggiatori che si ritrovano dalle parti di Minneapolis, ho avuto un solo giorno a disposizione per visitare il meglio che la città ha da offrire. Eppure, anche in poco tempo, sono riuscito a cogliere l'essenza di "Minnie", una città tranquilla ma non per questo poco viva (anzi). Rispetto all'aeroporto, il downtown dista circa una decina di miglia (a nord) ed è ben collegato dal sistema Metro Transit (linea blu e verde) che il metodo migliore per raggiungere i quattro luoghi principali della città di Minneapolis: il centro storico ovviamente, l'aeroporto, il Mall of America e le Minnehaha Falls. Già, perchè a metà strada tra il Minneapolis - St Paul Airport e downtown c'è un parco naturale, il più amato dai locali, davvero splendido, il Minnehaha Regional Park, uno dei più antichi della città, capace di richiamare quasi un milione di visitatori l'anno. La visita di Minneapolis non può, soprattutto nei mesi caldi, non cominciare da qui ed in particolare dalla bellissima Minnehaha Falls, raggiungibile comodamente dall'ingresso del parco. Ma, per coloro i quali volessero spendere più tempo nel parco, c'è la possibilità di seguire diversi sentieri che conducono al Fort Snelling State Park, fare un tuffo in piscina, ammirare monumenti storici e sculture in bronzo, noleggiare biciclette o semplicemente gustarsi un buon pranzo al Sea Salt Restaurant. Tra le dieci cose da vedere a Minneapolis in un giorno non può certamente mancare la Minnehaha Falls.

10 THINGS TO SEE IN MINNEAPOLIS IN ONE DAY 

1) MINNEHAHA FALLS 

Like many of the travelers who decide to visit Minneapolis, i only had one day to spend visiting the best the city has to offer. Yet even in a short time, I was able to capture the essence of “Minnie,” a quiet but not unliving city (quite the contrary). Downtown is located about ten miles from the airport (to the north) and is well connected by the Metro Transit system (blue and green lines), which is the best way to reach the four main places in the city of Minneapolis: downtown of course, the airport, the Mall of America, and Minnehaha Falls. That's right, because halfway between the Minneapolis - St Paul Airport and downtown, there is a truly lovely nature park, the most beloved by locals, Minnehaha Regional Park, one of the oldest in the city, capable of attracting nearly a million visitors a year.  Especially in the warmer months, the visit to Minneapolis should begin right here and in particular at the beautiful Minnehaha Falls, which can be reached conveniently from the park's entrance. But, for those who would like to spend more time in the park, there is the option of following several trails leading to Fort Snelling State Park, taking a dip in a pool, admiring historical monuments and bronze sculptures, renting bicycles, or simply enjoying a good lunch at Sea Salt Restaurant. Among the ten things to see in Minneapolis in one day, Minnehaha Falls certainly cannot be missed.

IL TOUR DI DOWNTOWN MINNEAPOLIS

Tra le cose da vedere a Minneapolis spicca ovviamente il suo downtown, diviso in due aree: da una parte Downtown West ricco di grattacieli e l'area principale del centro, Nicollet Mall, dall'altra Downtown East che si affaccia sul fiume Mississippi. E' la zona storica dei mulini, ricca di ristoranti ed edifici residenziali. Downtown ha ripreso vigore, dopo un periodo di appannamento, con la chiusura al traffico di Nicollet Avenue, diventata ora percorribile solo da taxy, autobus e pedoni. Il progetto è poi diventato Nicollet Mall (fra Washington Ave. e 13th St.S.) ed è, di fatto, il vero cuore pulsante della città con un’ampia scelta di negozi e ristoranti. Una volta raggiunta Nicollett Mall provenendo dal Minnehaha Regional Park (fuori dal parco troverete la fermata della metro che in 15 minuti conduce in centro - fermata Nicollet Mall), avrà inizio un tour a piedi che vi consentirà di visitare i restanti nove luoghi principali di Minneapolis.

THE TOUR OF DOWNTOWN MINNEAPOLIS

Prominent among the things to see in Minneapolis,  there's obviously downtown, which is divided into two areas: on the one hand Downtown West, full of skyscrapers and the main area of downtown, Nicollet Mall, and on the other Downtown East overlooking the Mississippi River. It is the historic mill area, full of restaurants and residential buildings. Downtown revived after a period of tarnishment with the closure of Nicollet Avenue to traffic, which has now become passable only by taxis, buses and pedestrians. The project has since become Nicollet Mall (between Washington Ave. and 13th St.S.) and is, in fact, the real beating heart of the city with a wide selection of stores and restaurants. Once you reach Nicollett Mall coming from Minnehaha Regional Park (outside the park you will find the subway stop that takes you to downtown in 15 minutes - the stop is Nicollet Mall), it's time to start the walking tour that allow you to visit the remaining nine major Minneapolis landmarks.

2) CITY HALL

Tra le dieci cose da vedere a downtown Minneapolis spicca il bellissimo City Hall. E' da qui che cominciamo il nostro tour del centro città, da questo imponente edificio al cui esterno spiccano la torre dell'orologio ed i tetti verdi che ricordano moltissimo quelli dell'est del Canada. Al suo interno una bellissima scalinata di marmo e soprattutto la "Fathers of the Waters", una statua scolpita con il marmo di Carrara e dedicata ovviamente al "Grande Fiume", il vicino Mississippi. Il City Hall è visitabile gratuitamente durante gli orari di apertura. 

2) CITY HALL

Among the ten things to see in downtown Minneapolis, the beautiful City Hall stands out. It is from here that we begin our walking tour of downtown, from this imposing building whose exterior features a clock tower and green roofs that are very reminiscent of those in eastern Canada. Inside is a beautiful marble staircase and especially the “Fathers of the Waters,” a statue carved from Carrara marble and dedicated, of course, to the “Great River,” the nearby Mississippi. City Hall can be visited free of charge during opening hours.

3) FORSHAY TOWER

La Forshay Tower, conosciuta anche come W Minneapolis - The Forshay è l'edificio sicuramente più iconico del downtown di Minneapolis. Costruito nel 1929, con i sui 136 metri di altezza è stato per ben 48 anni l'edificio più alto di tutto il Midwest e la sua forma ricorda vagamente quella del Washington Monument, con i lati dell'edificio che sono di fatto leggermente inclinati verso l'interno rendendo ogni piano di questo grattacielo uno più piccolo dell'altro. Dal 2008 è diventato un rinomato hotel, il W Minneapolis - The Forshay, ma rimane un'icona della città e soprattutto non ha dimenticato la sua storia. Al 30esimo piano potrete infatti visitare il museo The Forshay e soprattutto salire sullo "skydeck" ed ammirare Minneapolis da posizione decisamente privilegiata. La miglior vista sulla città l'avrete, infatti, proprio da qui! Ma non è finita, al 27esimo piano potrete gustarvi un buon cocktail con vista al Prohibition Sky Bar. 

3) FORSHAY TOWER

The Forshay Tower, also known as W Minneapolis-The Forshay is surely the most iconic building in downtown Minneapolis. Built in 1929, at 136 feet tall it has been the tallest building in the entire Midwest for a 48 years, and its shape is vaguely reminiscent of the Washington Monument with the sides of the building actually sloping slightly inward making each floor of this skyscraper smaller than the other. Since 2008 it has become a renowned hotel, the W Minneapolis - The Forshay, but it remains an icon of the city and more importantly has not forgotten its history. In fact, on the 30th floor you can visit The Forshay museum and, above all, go up to the skydeck and admire Minneapolis from a decidedly privileged position. This is just the best view of the city! But that's not all, on the 27th floor you can enjoy a good cocktail with a view at the Prohibition Sky Bar.

4) IDS CENTER TOWER

Non lontano dal Forshay Tower non potrete non notare l'IDS Center Tower che, con le sue vetrate riflettenti, è al momento l’edificio più alto della città grazie ai suoi 241 metri di altezza.

Not far from the Forshay Tower, you'll notice the IDS Center Tower, which, with its reflective glass windows, is currently the tallest building in the city thanks to its 241 meters in height.

5) TARGET CENTER E PRINCE MURAL

Percorrete per circa cinque minuti la South 8th Street in direzione ovest, allontanandovi un pochino dal centro. Incrocerete il Target Center, la casa delle due squadre di basket della città, i Minnesota Timberwolves della Nba, e le Minnesota Lynx della Wnba. Distante una manciata di metri dal palazzo dello sport spicca l'enorme murales dedicato a Prince, il figlio prediletto della città di Minneapolis.

5) TARGET CENTER AND PRINCE MURAL

Walk for five minutes down South 8th Street heading west, moving a little bit away from downtown. Don't miss the Target Center, the home of the city's two basketball teams, the Minnesota Timberwolves of the Nba, and the Minnesota Lynx of the Wnba. A handful of feet away from the sports building stands the huge mural dedicated to Prince, the city of Minneapolis' favorite son.

6) BASILICA OF ST MARY 

Per raggiungere i prossimi luoghi dobbiamo allontanarci sempre di più dal cuore pulsante di downtown, per questo mi sento di consigliare a chi non vuol camminare in zone più periferiche e isolate del centro di considerare gli spostamenti con i mezzi pubblici oppure uber. Un chilometro abbondante separano il Prince Mural e la Basilica of St Mary, la prima basilica designata negli Stati Uniti. Quando l'ho visitata si stava svolgendo un matrimonio, motivo per il quale non ho potuto ammirare il suo interno, ma val davvero la pena entrare per ammirare una delle basiliche più interessanti del nord degli Stati Uniti. 

7) WALKER ART CENTER E MINNEAPOLIS SCULPTURE GARDEN

Lasciata la Basilica of St Mary attraversate il ponte ed entrate nel parco che ospita il Walker Art Center ed il Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. Vi troverete immediatamente di fronte il secondo (l'ingresso è gratuito) che a livello artistico è la grande attrazione di Minneapolis. Vi troverete di fronte diverse sculture (40 permanenti più altre a rotazione) davvero particolari e, per scoprirne la storia, avrete la possibilità di scaricare la app gratuita Bloomberg Connects che racconta nel dettaglio ogni aspetto di ogni singola scultura. 

6) BASILICA OF ST MARY 

To get to the next places we have to move further and further away from the beating heart of downtown, so I would advise those who do not want to walk in more suburban and isolated areas of downtown to consider public transportation or uber. One mile separates the Prince Mural and the Basilica of St Mary, the first designated basilica in the United States. A wedding was taking place when I visited the Basilica, which is why I could not admire its interior, but it is really worth going inside to see one of the most interesting basilicas in the northern United States. 

7) WALKER ART CENTER AND MINNEAPOLIS SCULPTURE GARDEN

Leaving the Basilica of St Mary, just cross the bridge and enter the park that houses the Walker Art Center and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. You will immediately face the latter (admission is free), which artistically is the big attraction in Minneapolis. You'll be faced with several sculptures (40 permanent plus others on a rotating basis) that are really special, and if you want to find out their history, just download the free Bloomberg Connects app that details every aspect of each sculpture.

Adiacente al Minneapolis Sculpture Garden spicca il Walker Art Center (ingresso adulti: 18 dollari), un centro  che si occupa delle varie forme d’arte del ventesimo secolo americano ed europeo, ma anche di attività educative legate alla creatività e alla progettazione. Ho sfruttato l'ingresso gratuito che viene concessa il primo sabato di ogni mese e devo ammettere che questo museo mi ha sorpreso moltissimo. Sviluppato su diversi piani, è un viaggio tra dipinti, sculture e stanze con interi allestimenti molto particolari. All'ultimo piano, che regala una bellissima vista su Minneapolis, è presente anche una "sezione giochi", decisamente artistica. Su tutte spicca il mini-golf, la conclusione perfetta di un museo decisamente sorprendente. 

Adjacent to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden stands out the Walker Art Center (adult admission: $18), a center that focuses on the various art forms of the American and European 20th century as well as educational activities related to creativity and design. I took advantage of the free admission that is granted on the first Saturday of every month, and I must admit that this is a very lovely museum.  Developed on several floors, it is a journey through paintings, sculptures, and rooms with entire arrangements that are very special. On the top floor, which gives a beautiful view of Minneapolis, there is also a “games section,” which is decidedly artistic. Standing out above them all is the mini-golf, the perfect conclusion to a decidedly amazing museum.

8) LORING PARK

Lo utilizzerete per rientrare in downtown dopo aver lasciato il Walker Art Center. E’ un bel parco che merita davvero una visita e non è raro imbattersi in qualche cerimonia.

9) GUTHRIE THEATER

Per visitare il Guthrie Theater ci siamo spostati a downtown east, con il Mississippi a fare da sfondo. L'impatto con questo moderno teatro è notevole ed anche il suo interno è del tutto particolare. Sono, infatti, molti i locals che entrano nel teatro per accedere alla terrazza panoramica che si sporge di oltre 50 metri (Endless Bridge) e regala una vista davvero impareggiabile sul fiume Mississippi e sulla città.

8) LORING PARK

It's the best way to re-enter downtown after leaving the Walker Art Center. It is a beautiful park that is really worth a visit, and it is not uncommon to come across some ceremonies.

9) GUTHRIE THEATER

If you want to visit the Guthrie Theater, move to downtown east, with the Mississippi as your backdrop. The impact with this modern theater is remarkable and its interiors are also quite unique. There are, in fact, many locals who enter the theater to gain access to the observation deck that juts out more than 50 meters (Endless Bridge) and gives a truly unparalleled view of the Mississippi River and the city.

10) STONE ARCH BRIDGE

Il riverfront, che passa anche per il Guthrie Theater, si spinge anche qualche metro più in la, fino allo Stone Arch Bridge, un antico ponte che consente di passare da una sponda all'altra del Mississippi River. Siamo nel cuore del Mill District ma, dei tanti mulini un tempo grandi protagonisti nella città di Minneapolis rimane ora il Mill Ruins Park e soprattutto il Mill City Museum. Tutti gli altri sono stati riconvertiti in abitazioni.

10) STONE ARCH BRIDGE

The riverfront passes by the Guthrie Theater and ends at the Stone Arch Bridge, an ancient bridge that allows people to cross from one side of the Mississippi River to the other. This is the heart of the Mill District but, of the many mills that once stood in the city of Minneapolis, the Mill Ruins Park and especially the Mill City Museum are what's left. All the others have been converted back into housing.

The ultimate guide to Kanarra Falls, an amazing gem right outside Zion National Park

Il sud ovest dello Utah è ricco di bellezze naturali davvero maestose, dai grandi parchi nazionali come Bryce Canyon e Zion a quelli statali. Ma è nascoste tra queste enormi riserve naturali che spesso si trovano le gemme più belle di un'area, quella al confine tra lo Utah e l'Arizona, che regala meraviglie una dopo l'altra. Tra queste spiccano le Kanarra Falls che in pochi (fortunatamente) sanno essere collocate a cinque minuti (!) dall'ingresso nord-ovest del parco nazionale di Zion, quello meno visitato dal turismo di massa. E chissà quanti di voi nel loro itinerario dei grandi parchi statunitensi da qui ci sono passati, provenendo da Las Vegas in direzione Bryce Canyon o in direzione Zion, senza tuttavia imbattersi in questo divertentissimo sentiero particolarmente adatto anche a chi viaggia con i bambini anche se, ovviamente, dovrete sempre prestare massima attenzione.

Southwestern Utah is full of truly majestic natural beauty, from large national parks such as Bryce Canyon and Zion to State Parks. But, it is well hidden among these huge nature preserves that one could often find the most beautiful gems of an area, the one on the Utah-Arizona border, that delight people with one wonder after another. Among these stands the Kanarra Falls, which very few (fortunately) know are located five minutes (!) drive from the northwest entrance to Zion National Park, the least visited part of the park.. And who knows how many of you, while following your itinerary, have passed through this area, coming from Las Vegas in the direction of Bryce Canyon or in the direction of Zion, without coming across this very enjoyable trail that is particularly suitable even for those traveling with young kids although you will always have to be extremely careful.

KANARRA FALLS, IL SEGRETO MEGLIO CUSTODITO DEL SUD OVEST DELLO UTAH

Ma dobbiamo andare con ordine e quindi in primis collocare geograficamente le Kanarra Falls e dove inserirle in un road trip nei grandi parchi americani. Siamo lungo la strada che da Las Vegas porta al Bryce Canyon o a Zion, la Veteran Memorial Highway. Poco a nord di St George, una città nella quale obbligatoriamente vi imbatterete, e poco a sud di Cedar City, una delle prime gate town del Bryce Canyon National Park. La comunità è quella di Kanarraville, una minuscola cittadina situata appena fuori la Veteran Memorial Highway. 

KANARRA FALLS, SOUTHWESTERN UTAH'S BEST-KEPT SECRET

But first things first and then we have to place Kanarra Falls geographically and when could be the right time for a stop there during a road trip in the great American parks. We are along the road from Las Vegas to Bryce Canyon or Zion, the Veteran Memorial Highway. Just north of St George, a town you are bound to run into, and just south of Cedar City, one of the first gate towns in Bryce Canyon National Park. The community is that of Kanarraville, a tiny town located just off the Veteran Memorial Highway. 

Quando inserire le Kanarra Falls in un road trip? La scelta migliore è probabilmente quella di visitare le Kanarra Falls subito dopo aver lasciato Zion National Park se siete in direzione Las Vegas o Bryce Canyon, oppure dopo aver lasciato il Bryce Canyon in direzione Las Vegas o Zion.

When is the right time for a stop at Kanarra Falls during a road trip? The best choice is probably to visit Kanarra Falls immediately after leaving Zion National Park if you are heading towards Las Vegas or Bryce Canyon, or after leaving Bryce Canyon heading towards Las Vegas or Zion.

COME VISITARE LE KANARRA FALLS - L'ACQUISTO DEL BIGLIETTO D'INGRESSO

Le Kanarra Falls non fanno parte dello Zion National Park, pur essendo collocate molto vicino all'enorme parco nazionale dello Utah, nella cittadina di Kanarraville. Uno dei motivi per cui questo percorso non è ancora così famoso è per il fatto che gli ingressi giornalieri sono contingentati (150 al giorno!) ed è necessario acquistare i biglietti con anticipo al costo di 15 dollari per persona (https://kanarrafalls.com/kanarra-falls-admission/). L'indirizzo di partenza del sentiero è il seguente: 345 E 100 N St, Kanarraville, Utah.

HOW TO VISIT KANARRA FALLS - GET A PERMIT

Kanarra Falls is not part of Zion National Park, although it is located very close to the huge Utah National Park, in the town of Kanarraville. One of the reasons why this trail is not yet so popular is because of the fact that daily entrances are limited (150 per day!) and tickets must be purchased in advance at a cost of $15 per person (https://kanarrafalls.com/kanarra-falls-admission/). The trailhead address is 345 E 100 N St, Kanarraville, Utah.

COME VISITARE LE KANARRA FALLS - IL PERCORSO

Una volta acquistato il ticket di ingresso non resta che recarsi nel giorno stabilito nella piccola Kanarraville per affrontare le divertentissime 4 miglia del percorso delle Kanarra Falls. Una volta lasciata l'auto al parcheggio dovrete mostrare la vostra prenotazione nel minuscolo Permit Center e, una volta ricevute tutte le indicazioni del caso, sarete pronti per l'avventura. L'inizio del trail è interamente in salita e tutto sommato anche abbastanza monotono, ma una volta entrati nel bosco (dopo 1 chilometro), il divertimento aumenta. 

HOW TO VISIT KANARRA FALLS - THE TRAIL

Once you have purchased your entrance ticket all that is left to do is to reach the small town of Kanarraville and hike the fun-filled 4-mile Kanarra Falls trail. Once you leave your car at the parking lot, just show your reservation/permit in the tiny Permit Center and, get all the appropriate directions, and.. .the adventure begins. The beginning of the trail is entirely uphill and all in all also quite monotonous, but once you enter the woods (after 1 mile), the fun increases. 

Il sentiero, come accade molto spesso negli Stati Uniti, è ben segnalato e vi inviterà, una volta raggiunto il torrente, a fare continuamente dentro e fuori. Ho contato almeno una ventina di attraversamenti e, per larghi tratti, dovrete camminare proprio lungo torrente (l'acqua è molto fresca e vi arriva alle caviglie), rendendo l'esperienza molto divertente. Ma la parte sicuramente più divertente è quella finale, quando il corso d'acqua s'intrufola tra le pareti del canyon.

The trail, as is happens very often in the United States, is well-marked and will invite visitor, once at the creek, to continually walk in and out. I counted at least 20 river crossings and, for large stretches, you will have to walk right into the creek (the water is very cool and reaches your ankles), making the experience fun. But the definitely funniest part is the final one, when the stream sneaks between the canyon walls.

Da questo momento anche le fotografie (non solo il divertimento) diventeranno incredibili. L'acqua sotto i vostri piedi, il canyon, maestoso, al vostro fianco. Una sorta di piccolo Antelope Canyon con l'acqua al posto della sabbia. Il punto più famoso dell'intero percorso ed ovviamente anche il più fotografato, è quello che vede una scaletta consentire al visitatore di proseguire nel percorso. Al suo fianco una piccola ma affascinante cascata. 

From this moment, even the photographs (not just the fun) will become amazing. The water under your feet, the canyon, majestic, at your side. A kind of small Antelope Canyon with water instead of sand. The most famous point of the entire trail and obviously also the most photographed, is the one where a ladder allows the visitor to continue on the path. At its side there is a small but fascinating waterfall. 

E' sicuramente la zona più iconica del sentiero delle Kanarra Falls. Una volta salita la scala vi troverete di fronte un'altra piccola scalata e qualche roccia che, se vorrete superare, vi consentirà di continuare ancora per un po' il percorso delle Kanarra Falls. Va detto, tuttavia, che molti dei visitatori terminano il loro trail proprio qui e ritornerà al parcheggio percorrendo la stessa strada. Chi invece vorrà continuare potrà farlo per altre due miglia in una zona ancora più remota ma comunque facilmente accessibile del Kanarra Falls Trail. Non andate oltre la seconda cascata perchè il sentiero non è ben tenuto. Da qui tornate verso il parcheggio.

This is definitely the most iconic area of the Kanarra Falls trail. Once you climb the ladder you will face another quick climb and a few rocks that, if you wish to overcome, will let you continue the Kanarra Falls trail for a while longer. It should be mentioned, however, that many of the visitors end their trail right there and return to the parking lot by taking nobviously the same route. Those who wish to continue, however, can do so for another two miles in an even more remote but still easily accessible area of the Kanarra Falls Trail. Do not go beyond the second waterfall because the trail is not well maintained. Just retrace your step and get back to the parking lot.

CONCLUSIONI - CONSIGLI SULLA VISITA ALLE KANARRA FALLS

Con la doverosa promessa che la visita alle Kanarra Falls è vivamente consigliata anche a chi non ha troppa voglia di camminare (il percorso presenta qualche insidia, ma nulla di insormontabile), devo ammettere che non mi aspettavo di vedere lungo il percorso così tanti bambini. Poi, quando ho cominciato a camminare nell'acqua ho capito il perchè, soprattutto nei mesi estivi quando fa molto caldo. Il paragone immediato è con il vicinissimo Narrows del parco nazionale di Zion, con la grande differenza che insieme a voi non ci sarà la consueta fiumana di gente che troverete nel parco nazionale.

CONCLUSIONS - TIPS ABOUT THE KANARRA FALLS

With the dutiful promise that a visit to Kanarra Falls is highly recommended even for those who are not too keen on walking (the trail has a few pitfalls, but nothing insurmountable), I must admit that I did not expect to see so many young kids along the way. Then, while in the water, realized that this adve nture was so, so funny! The immediate comparison is to the very nearby Narrows in Zion National Park, with the big difference that you're basically alone. 

Il consiglio principale durante l'estate è di visitare le Kanarra Falls durante il mattino (vi verrà consigliato tramite mail anche dalla direzione del parco) perchè il rischio temporali pomeridiani con conseguenti flash flood è sempre molto alto in quest'area dello Utah. Io sono arrivato al parcheggio alle 9 del mattino e poco prima di mezzogiorno avevo fatto rientro, pronto a dirigermi verso la prossima meta che, nel mio caso, era Las Vegas, distante circa due ore. 

During the summer months, the main tip is to visit Kanarra Falls in the morning (you will also be advised by email from park management) because the risk of afternoon thunderstorms resulting in flash floods is always very high in this area of Utah. I reached the parking lot at 9 a.m. and shortly before noon had returned, ready to head to my next destination, which, in my case, was Las Vegas, about two hours away.
