Abbiamo a disposizione solamente due giorni pieni per la visita della città e non vogliamo assolutamente perdere tempo. E' domenica mattina e siamo in Spagna, che tradotto significa che alle nove del mattino solo noi e pochi altri "eroi" sono già in pista per il primo appuntamento giornaliero. Con la metro scendiamo a "Passeig de Gracia" e percorriamo l'omonima via: è qui che Gaudì ha dato probabilmente il meglio di sè, con Casa Batllò e la vicina Casa Milà, detta anche Pedrera.
We have only two full days to spend in the city and we really don't want to waste time. Well, it's sunday morning and this is Spain, which means that at 9 am it's just us and a few other "heroes" already on track around the city. The first subway stop is "Passeig de Gracia": along this street that Antoni Gaudi probably gave his best with Casa Batllò and the nearby Casa Mila, also known as La Pedrera.
Casa Batllò non vi lascerà indifferenti: simbolo del capitalismo catalano ed ovviamente uno dei capolavori di Gaudì, nel corso degli anni casa Batllò è stata soprannominata in diversi modi, da "Casa delle ossa" a "Casa del Drago".
Casa Batllò won't let you down: as a symbol of catalan capitalism and of course as one of the masterpieces of Gaudi, over the years Casa Batllò has been dubbed in different ways, from "House of Bones" to "House of the Dragon."
Ed il motivo è molto semplice. I balconi, infatti, ricordano la mandibola di un drago ed il tetto è una sorta di imitazione della schiena di un drago. La casa è visitabile, ma come abbiamo già avuto modo di dire, vuoi per il tempo a disposizione o vuoi anche per i prezzi folli (22.50 euro per persona) ed il nostro intento è quello di vivere una "Barcellona low cost", decidiamo di proseguire.
The reason is very simple. The balconies, in fact, remember the mandible of a dragon and the roof is a kind of imitation of the back of a dragon. The house can be visited, but as we have said earlier, prices are very high (22.50 euros per person) and our intention is to live a "Barcelona low cost".
A poche centinaia di metri di distanza ecco un altro gioiellino, la Pedrera, Anche qui non si può non notare la mano di Gaudì, soprattutto il suo "non amare" le linee rette. Nel caso vogliate visitarla il prezzo è di 16.50 euro per persona.
Not very far from Casa Batllò there is another gem, called La Pedrera. Even here you will notice the hand of Gaudì, especially how he "dislikes" straight lines. In case you want to visit La Pedrera, price is 16.50 euros per person.
Lasciata la Pedrera e giunti all'incrocio con Avenida Diagonal, giriamo a destra e percorriamo i due chilometri e mezzo che ci separano dal simbolo di Barcelona, la Sagrada Famìlia (tickets dai 15 ai 29 euro), opera alla quale Gaudì ha dedicato ben 42 anni della sua vita. Il progetto prevede che venga terminata nel 2026, la strada dunque è ancora lunga...

Per la Sagrada Famìlia siamo disposti a fare il "sacrificio", anche da fuori è imponente e bellissima e non vediamo l'ora di poterla visitare.
We are willing to make the "sacrifice" for the Sagrada Familia. It is impressive and beautiful even from outside: we definitely want to visit it!
Il nostro entusiasmo viene però immediatamente placato in biglietteria, quando scopriamo che non solo le visite odierne sono "sold out", ma che per prenotarla per il giorno successivo avremmo dovuto tornare in hotel ed effettuarla tramite internet.
Our enthusiasm is, however, immediately calmed down at the ticket office, when we find out that today's visits are "sold out" and if we want to book a visit for the day after we would have come back to the hotel and do it through the internet.
Solo in serata, una volta tornati al nostro "campo base", scopriremo che anche per il giorno successivo tutto era "sold out". Delusione.
Once at the hotel, in the evening, we find out that even for the next day everything is "sold out". Disappointment.
Riusciamo solamente a visitare la cappella adiacente, dove abbiamo ammirato la tomba di Gaudì. Vorrà dire che dovremo tornare a Barcellona prima o poi...

Respinti con perdite durante la spedizione alla Sagrada Famìlia ci giochiamo la carta Parc Guell, un parco sul quale riponevamo molte delle nostre aspettative e che purtroppo invece non ci ha colpito moltissimo.
Rejected with losses during our expedition to the Sagrada Familia, we play the card called "Parc Guell": We have much expectations but unfortunately this park will not impressed us so much.

Lo percorriamo dall'alto verso il basso (una scelta che consigliamo per non dover faticare ancora di più) in modo tale che il percorso sia sempre da effettuare in discesa.
We start walking it from the top (a choice we highly recommend): in this way that the path will always be downhill.
Partiamo dunque dal punto più alto, da dove poter ammirare l'intera Barcelona, e scendiamo sino a raggiungere la zona più turistica.
Let's begin from the highest point, from where you can admire Barcelona, and then go down untilwe reach the most touristic area.
Intuiamo però subito che non fa per noi. Quasi tutto è a pagamento, dalla "casa museu Gaudì" alla parte con i capolavori dello stesso Gaudì (7 euro), per la quale, anche stavolta, ci sarebbe da aspettare una buona ora. E' un museo, non è un parco e quindi no, non è il nostro parco.
We immediately realize that this is not our kind of park. You've to pay for almost everything inside the park, from the "casa Museu Gaudi" to all the Gaudi's masterpieces (7 euros), for which, again, we would have to wait for a good hour. This is a kind of museum, not a park. Definitely that's not out park.
E poi, tanti, troppi turisti, Certo, visivamente è un parco bellissimo, ma non fa per noi.
And then too many tourists. Well, surely, it is visually a beautiful park but not the kind of park we like the most.
Apprezzeremo molto di più il giorno successivo il suggestivo Parc de la Ciutadela. Ovviamente però è un parere molto, molto soggettivo.
We appreciate much more the impressive Parc de la Ciutadella, which we'll visit the day after. Obviously this is a very, very subjective opinion.
Ci rifaremo con il cibo quindi? Ehm, no. Per pranzo avevamo scelto, tra i tanti posti che avevamo selezionato ed i tantissimi che ci avevano consigliato gli amici, la Paradeta (passatge de Simò, numero 18), proprio perchè vicino alla Sagrada Familia. Qui scegli il tu il pesce e loro te lo cucinano. Chiuso per ferie. Optiamo per la seconda opzione, la Cerveceria Catalana (carrer de Mallorca, numero 236), ma anche qui veniamo rimbalzati, L'attesa è di un'ora, il locale non è pieno, di più. Decidiamo per una cosa easy e testiamo un locale aperto da pochissimi giorni.
Will we be lucky at least with the food? Well, not so much! It's lunch time and we would like to taste, among many places we had selected and the many recommended by our friends, the Paradeta (passatge de Simo, number 18), just because it's close to the Sagrada Familia. Here you can choose the fish you want to eat and they cook it for you. Closed for holiday. There's a second option: the Cerveceria Catalana (Carrer de Mallorca, number 236), but even here we are not lucky. We are told that we have to wait for more than an hour for a table... it's better if we go for something easy in a bar opened just few days ago.

Ricaricate le batterie siamo pronti per la tappa del tardo pomeriggio che, complice la posizione non proprio comodissima, avevamo messo tra i luoghi da visitare "se avanza tempo". Ma, essendo in largo anticipo sulla tabella di marcia abbiamo tuttavia deciso di inserirlo: parliamo del Tibidabo, la collina alta 512 che domina l'intera Barcellona.
After lunch we are ready to visit another place. It's early afternoon and we have plenty of time. And there's a location that we put among the places to visit "if we have enough time". We are talking about Tibidabo, the 512 meters high hill overlooking the entire Barcelona.
Prendiamo la S1, la metro (anche se in realtà è un treno) che ci porterà a Peu del Funicular, da dove prenderemo la funicolare.
We take the S1 subway (although it is actually a train) which will take us to the Peu Funicular stop, where the funicular is waiting for us.
Giunti in cima, il servizio navetta (ogni mezz'ora) vi porterà sino al punto più alto della collina, detto appunto Tibidabo.
At the top, the shuttle (you can catch it every half an hour) take us up to the highest point of the hill, called Tibidabo.
La chiesa del Sacro Cuore, costruita dopo una visita di San Giovanni Bosco, è il fiore all'occhiello, ma la peculiarità di questo luogo è sicuramente il luna park, il più vecchio di Spagna, costruito più di cento anni fa proprio in cima alla collina.
The Church of the Sacred Heart, built after St. Giovanni Bosco went there, is the highlight, but the peculiarity of this place is definitely the amusement park, the oldest in Spain, built over a hundred years ago right at the top of hill.
Il costo è come sempre, eccessivo, ma il divertimento per piccoli e grandi è assicurato.
Price is, as usually, is very high but fun for all ages is guaranteed.
Da qui la vista su Barcellona è imponente, pareggiata solamente da quella che ci verrà regalata dal Montjuic il giorno successivo.
From here you can enjoy a marvellous and impressive view of Barcelona. Only the view given to us by the Montjuic hill can be compared to the Tibidabo.
Un luogo che avevamo messo in secondo piano si conferma invece uno dei luoghi che più ci ha colpito di Barcellona, ennesima conferma che non sempre guide e diari di viaggio vengano incontro ai vostri gusti.
A place that definitely one of the most impressive of Barcelona: this is yet another confirmation that not always guides and traveltales meet your tastes.
Decidiamo, complice i bus sempre pieni di persone, di scendere a piedi sino alla fermata della funicolare.
Busses are full of people, we decide to walk down the hill till reaching the funicular stop.
Per fortuna i due chilometri che percorriamo sono in discesa e ci regalano anche un tramonto spettacolare.
Luckily, the two kilometers walking give us an amazing sunset.
Siamo distrutti dopo i 20 km percorsi oggi alle 18.30 siamo già a cena. Percorriamo parte della Rambla e poi prendiamo il bus che ci porterà in zona Barceloneta. L'appuntamento è con il Kiosco (numero 176 di 7368 su tripadvisor) per un fantastico hamburger. Birra australiana, ingredienti tipici spagnoli. Compiliamo un foglio in cui scegliamo il pane, il tipo di ingredienti, se salse ed i contorni.
We are totally destroyed after 20 km we've walked today and at 6.30 pm it's already dinner time. We walk along the Rambla and then take the bus that will take to the Barceloneta area. We are going to the Kiosco (number 176 of 7368 at tripadvisor) for a fantastic burger. Australian beer, typical Spanish ingredients. We fill in a sheet in which we choose bread, kind of ingredients, sauces and sides.
Ale opta per l'Australiana (hamburger, bacon, barbabietola grigliata, cheddar, salsa barbeque fatta in casa e patatine fritte), Marco invece per La Bacoa (hamburger, bacon affumicato, irish cheddar, manchego cheese, sottaceti e mostarda artigianale. Patate al vapore con salsa alioli come contorno). C'è bisogno di aggiungere altro? Assolutamente no. Anzi, una cosa si, il prezzo: 29 euro in totale. Non c'è bisogno di dire che, dopo un amaro preso in un locale di fronte all'hotel, crolliamo. Inevitabile.
Ale gets the "Australiana": burger with bacon, grilled beetroot, cheddar, homemade bbq sauce and fench fries. Marco gets "La Bacoa": burger with smoked bacon, irish cheddar, manchego semi-cured cheese, pickles, artisan mustard and steamed potatoes with alioli sauce. What else to say? Nothing of course. Well, just one more thing: the bill (29 euros overall). No need to say that, after a glass of rhum taken in a bar across the street, we collapse. Inevitable.
