In the last post we left you, just after lunch, in the district of Barçeloneta, one of most true neighborood of the entire city. The small streets of the Barrio have not lost the charm and even a simple walk will give you a lot of emotions.
Un tempo quartiere popolato da marinai, oggi troverete gente umile o magari anche qualche anziano che, seduto sulla propria seggiolina sull'uscio di casa, vi saluterà augurandovi buona giornata. La Barçeloneta è questo, ma non soltanto. Qui ci sono le spiagge, ci sono sportivi che fanno jogging e la vita notturna è vibrante. Noi l'abbiamo raggiunta a piedi, all'interno dei famosi 27 km che, vi abbiamo detto, percorreremo durante la giornata. Ma per chi volesse risparmiare energie, è attivo il bus 59 che dalla rambla vi porterà direttamente sulla spiaggia.
Formerly a district populated by sailors, today you will find humble people or maybe even some old men, sitting on their chair in the doorway of the house. This is Barçceloneta but there is something more. This piece of Barcelona is also famous for its beaches and vibrant nightlife. How to get there? By walk of course (2.5 km from the Rambla) of with the bus number 59 that will take you from the Rambla directly to the beach.
Giusto il tempo di ammirare il panorama e riprendiamo la marcia verso il porto vecchio (port vell), sino a raggiungere prima l'enorme acquario e poi il centro commerciale Maremagnum, entrambi locati proprio all'interno del porto stesso.
It's a sunny day and even the temperature is quite high. It's tough to leave this place but we have to. We have to go to the old port (Port Vell) and pass through the aquarium and the Maremagnum mall, both located in the port area.
Una passerella vi ricondurrà sulla terra ferma, dove ad attendervi troverete la statua di Cristoforo Colombo.
A walkway will take you back to the mainland, where you'll encounter the statue of Christopher Columbus.
Per chi arriva dal mare la porta d'ingresso nella città. Sopra le nostre testa vediamo scorrere una teleferica che notiamo arrivare sino alla cima del Montjuic, la nostra prossima destinazione.
If you're coming from the sea this is a kind of city gateway. Over our head we see a cable that connects the port with our next destination: Montjuic.
Proseguiamo a piedi invece di prendere la metro e, almeno per la prima parte in salita, rimpiangeremo questa decisione.
We walk till reaching the top of the hill. Any regrets? Yes, a lot of regrets!

Da una parte il porto ed il mare, dall'altra la città. In lontananza scorgiamo anche la Sagrada Familia.

Montjuic non è un'area troppo turistica e, come spesso succede, ciò non fa altro che renderci felici. Marco è entusiasta. Le Olimpiadi di Barcellona, le prime che vide tv da piccolo, hanno visto proprio in cima alla collina scrivere le pagine più importanti. Eccitazione da una parte per il luogo in cui ci troviamo, completa delusione dall'altra, quando scopriamo che il costo della teleferica è di ben 20 euro a persona: 40 euro per 5 minuti di viaggio rasentano la follia.
Montjuic area is not too touristy and, as often happens, it does make us happy. Marco is excited. The 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, the first one watched on tv when he was a child, wrote the most important pages right there. Excitement for the place where we are but even disappointment when we find out that the cable car ride costs 20 euros per person. They will never get our money!
Proseguiamo dunque lungo Avinguda Miramar sino a raggiungere Carrer l'Estadi. Il nome la dice lunga: qui, infatti, sorge lo stadio olimpico. L'entrata è gratuita, non possiamo non approfittarne.
Keep going along Avinguda Miramar till getting to Carrer l'Estadi. The name says almost everything: here there is the olympic stadium. Gates are open, we cannot miss this opportunity.

Il Palau St Jordi, costruito proprio accanto allo stadio, è stato teatro delle gesta del Dream Team Americano di pallacanestro.
The Palau St Jordi, built right next to the stadium, was the scene of American basketball Dream Team matches.
Chi ama lo sport non può rimanere indifferente. All'interno di quella che possiamo tranquillamente definire come "area olimpica" è stata posizionata anche la "torre de la telecomunicaciones", progettata dall'architetto Calatrava.

Ci sarebbe anche il castello, simbolo dell'intera Montjuic, da visitare, ma siamo davvero ko per la stanchezza. Ritornati su Carrer l'Estadi prendiamo il bus che ci lascerà a Plaça de Espana. Scorgiamo anche la "vera" fontana magic, situata in fondo ad Avenida Reina Maria, la via che collega proprio Plaça de Espanya (la fermata metro è "Espanya") e plaça Carles Buigas. Il venerdì ed il sabato sera (orario invernale: 19 e 21) le fontane si colorano a ritmo di musica.
We are really too tired to visit also the castle, the symbol of the entire Montjuic. Back to Carrer l'Estadi we catch the bus that will take us to Plaça de Espana. We even finally see the "real" magic fountain, located at the bottom of Avenida Reina Maria, the street that connects Plaça de Espanya (the subway stop is "Espanya") and Plaça Carles Buigas. On Friday and Saturday night (winter time: 7 pm and 9 pm) fountains become really magic!
A ridosso di plaça de Espanya sorge invece il centro commerciale "Arenas". Sembra una vera arena (ed in passato lo è stata), in realtà è un centro commerciale la cui peculiarità è la vista che regala dall'ultimo piano su Plaça de Espanya ed il vicino museo de la Cantalunya.
Adjacent to Plaça de Espanya there is a weird mall called "Arenas". It looks like a real arena (it formerly has been an arena) but actually is a commercial center whose peculiarity is the view of Plaça de Espanya and the nearby museum of the Cantalunya from the top floor.
Architettonicamente una genialata, meno il far pagare un euro per salire sull'ascensore esterno che vi porterà in cima. Entrando nel centro commerciale, infatti, è possibile salire ugualmente in cima senza "regalare" il sopra citato euro. A livello di costi "inutili" e/o "eccessivi" (i 20 dollari della teleferica, l'euro per salire con l'ascensore, i 7 euro di Parc Guell etc.) Barcellona merita un voto non positivo.
Location is great, not so great the fact that you have to pay 1 euro to take the elevator outside the mall that takes you up at top. If you go inside the mall you can easily go to the top and avoid the unnecessary expense.
Sono le 18 e dobbiamo trovare qualcosa da fare per non andare a cena ad orari non proprio "spagnoli". Poi, a sorpresa, ecco comparire il jolly. "Ma non abbiamo ancora visitato La Boqueria!". E Boqueria sia.
It's 6 pm and we have to find something to do. We can't have dinner now, it's Spain! "Well, we haven't visited the Boqueria yet". Sounds good!

Situated along the Ramblas, you'll notice it just because many people at every hour of the day visit this place. A world of flavors and odors, a viable alternative to the restaurants in town.
Noi però ci limitiamo ad un mini aperitivo a base di prosciutto patanegra (che sarà anche carissimo, ma è anche buonissimo) e nel frattempo rimpiangiamo di essere partiti solamente con un trolley.

E' l'ultima sera a Barcellona e non possiamo non chiudere l'avventura in terra catalana con la... paella. Tra i tanti ristoranti che ci sono stati consigliati e che abbiamo scovato in internet, scegliamo "La Fonda" (carrer de Escudellers, 10), all'interno del quartiere gotico. Una ventina di minuti buoni di attesa, in coda, fuori dal ristorante, saranno ricompensati da una discreta paella. Fantastico invece il conto: una paella per due, un bicchiere di Sangria ed un bicchiere di vino per 26 euro.
This is the last night in Barcelona and we have to finish the adventure in Catalunya with ... paella. Among the many restaurants we've found, we select "La Fonda" (carrer de Escudellers, 10) located in the gothic district. We have to wait in line for twenty minutes but we will be rewarded by a good paella. The bill is even fantastic: paella for two people, a glass of Sangria and a glass of wine for 26 euros.
