In ogni road trip che si rispetti, c'è sempre una giornata segnata con un gran bel circoletto rosso sul calendario. Di quelle che aspetti da tanto tempo, sin da quando, mesi prima, ci si tuffa nell'organizzazione del viaggio stesso. Per noi è questa, la tappa che da Chattanooga ci porterà a Nashville, la capitale della country music, 130 miglia vissute tra le campagne del Tennessee, con l'adrenalina in corpo pensando all'appuntamento delle ore 14 nella piccola cittadina di Lynchburg, Tennessee. Esatto, andremo a trovare il re del whiskey, Mr Jasper Newton Daniel, per tutti Jack, ed il suo impero conosciuto nel mondo come Jack Daniel's...

In every respectable road trip, there is always a day marked with a big red circle on the calendar. One of those days we have been waiting for a long time, since when, months before, we started planning the trip. The stage number 14, the one that take us from Chattanooga to Nashville, the capital of country music, 130 miles lived in the countryside of Tennessee. There's adrenaline rushing through our body. thinking about the appointment at 2 pm o'clock in the small town of Lynchburg, Tennessee. That's right, we're going to meet the king of whiskey, Mr. Jasper Newton Daniel, better known as Jack, and his world-known empire called Jack Daniel's ...

PILLOLE DAL TENNESSEE. LA PIU' ANTICA PANETTERIA DELLO STATO
Come sempre però, non c'è tempo per annoiarsi quando si viaggia lungo le strade americane. Ogni angolo riserva sorprese, anche in aperta campagna, anche lontani dai luoghi sacri del turismo. E allora può capitare che nella piccola Tracy City, esattamente al 109 di Main Street, ci si imbatta in quella che a tutti gli effetti è la più antica panetteria a conduzione familiare nello stato del Tennessee, la Dutch Maid Bakery. Creata nel 1902 è ancora, infatti, gestita da discendenti della famiglia Baggenstoss.

PILLS FROM TENNESSEE. THE MOST ANCIENT BAKERY OF THE STATE
As always though, there's no time to get bored when traveling along American roads. Every corner reserves surprises, even in the open country, even far from the sacred places of tourism. So it can happen that in the small Tracy City, exactly at 109 Main Street, we encounter what is actually the oldest family run bakery in the state of Tennessee, the Dutch Maid Bakery. Created in 1902 it is still, in fact, run by descendants of the Baggenstoss family.

Cindy, che abbiamo avuto il piacere di incontrare, è l'executive chef e baker, Lei, suo marito, sua madre ed i quattro figli hanno tutti contribuito alla crescita della Dutch Maid Bakery nel corso degli anni: qui il pane viene lavorato da 4 giorni prima che venga cotto e risulterà essere salato, denso e sostanzioso, lo stesso che i Baggenstoss producevano nei primi anni del 1900 per chi percorreva il Sentiero degli Appalachi e necessitava di cibo che potesse durare anche per settimane.

We also had the pleasure of meeting Cindy, the the executive chef and baker. Cindy, her husband, her mother and the four children all contributed to the growth of the Dutch Maid Bakery over the years: here bread is processed by 4 days before being cooked and it's salty, thick and substantial, the same that the Baggenstoss produced in the early 1900s for those who traveled the Appalachian Trail and needed food that could last for weeks.

MONTEAGLE, TENNESSEE. SULLE TRACCE DI AL CAPONE
Piccole cittadine si alternano alle campagne. Questo è il Tennessee più puro e diciamolo anche simile a quello dell'immaginario collettivo, fatto di sedie a dondolo, cappellino in testa, spiga di grano.. e whiskey ovviamente. A Monteagle non perdetevi l'High point restaurant (224 main street), una villa del 1929 (ora rinomato ristorante) che fu presumibilmente finanziata da Al Capone. Il complesso a tre piani aveva una volta portelli di fuga sul tetto e gallerie sotterranee nel seminterrato usate da Capone per il trasferimento di liquori negli anni venti e nei primi anni trenta. La città infatti era un importante “half point” tra Chicago e Miami. La leggenda locale racconta inoltre di un Al Capone e John Dillinger soliti sedere all'esterno, sul patio in pietra di montagna, e bere alcolici mentre giocano a carte.

Small towns alternate with the countryside. This is the purest Tennessee and let's also say very similar to that of the collective imagination, made of rocking chairs, a hat on your head, ear of wheat .. and whiskey of course. While in Monteagle, do not miss the High Point restaurant (224 main street), a 1929 villa (now a renowned restaurant) that was allegedly financed by Al Capone. The three-story complex had once escape doors on the roof and underground tunnels in the basement used by Capone for the transfer of liquor in the twenties and early thirties. The city was indeed an important "half point" between Chicago and Miami. The local legend also tells about Al Capone and John Dillinger used to sit outside on the mountain stone patio and drink alcohol while playing cards.

Poco più avanti, invece, a Sewanee, visitate il complesso universitario The University of the South (159 Georgia Avenue), una delle più belle tra le università del sud degli Stati Uniti.

A little further on, however, in the town of Sewanee, visit the university complex "The University of the South" (159 Georgia Avenue), one of the most beautiful universities in the southern part of the United States.

Fondata nel 1857, la The University of The South è del tutto particolare. La sua architettura in stile Oxford ispirata al gotico, i percorsi di arenaria rosa e giardini immersi in un paesaggio boscoso la rendono di fatto molto simile ad un piccolo villaggio europeo.

Founded in 1857, The University of The South is quite unique. Its architecture in Oxford style inspired by the gothic style, the pink sandstone paths and gardens immersed in a wooded landscape make it very similar to a small European village.

Lasciate la vostra auto in uno dei tanti parcheggi e camminate per i suoi viali, fermandovi a visitare anche al famosa cappella, situata al 688 di University Avenue.

Leave your car in one of the many car parks and walk along its avenues. Don't miss the famous chapel (688 University Avenue).

Poco prima di raggiungere Lynchburg, un breve stop per scattare qualche fotografia la merita sicuramente la comunità di Cowan. Una cittadina ancorata alla sua storia, molto simile a quelle che troverete percorrendo la mitica route 66.

Shortly before reaching Lynchburg, make sure to stop in Cowan. A town anchored to its history, very similar to those you would find along the mythical route 66.

Il Cowan railroad museum (108 N Front St) rappresenta la ferrovia che è stata parte integrante della città sin dal 1849, quando iniziò la costruzione di un tunnel ferroviario attraverso la montagna a due miglia a sud-est della città, il Cumberland Mountain Tunnel, rendendo Cowan uno dei crocevia per chi proveniva da e per Nashville.

The Cowan railroad museum (108 N Front St) represents the railway that has been an integral part of the city since 1849, when the construction of a railway tunnel through the mountain two miles southeast of the city began: the Cumberland Mountain Tunnel, which made Cowan one of the crossroads for people coming from and to Nashville.

Il gps ci racconta che Lynchburg, Tennessee, dovrebbe essere distante solo un chilometro, ma della città finita sulle mappe grazie al mitico Jack Daniel's, nemmeno l'ombra. Solo campagne e piccole colline. Nemmeno il tempo di pensare che "... forse abbiamo sbagliato strada" ed eccola comparire davanti a noi, piccola ma affascinante, con il suo caratteristico downtown ed i suoi solo 6.000 abitanti. Siamo nel paradiso del whiskey, a casa di Mr Jack Daniel. Qui, ovviamente, tutto nasce e muore con quel signore che nel 1875 fondò la prima distilleria registrata degli Stati Uniti, cambiando per sempre la storia del whiskey. Anche i negozi di downtown ricordano Jack ed il suo celebre whiskey, un antipasto gustoso di quello che vivrete poi visitando la distilleria. Al numero 1 di Majors Blvd, impossibile da non trovare nella piccola Lynchburg, ha sede il visitor center della città, il luogo migliore dal quale partire nel lungo viaggio nella storia del whiskey più famoso al mondo. Ah, la contea di Lynchburg è "dry county", ovvero qui non è possibile consumare alcolici, una legge che è rimasta intatta sin dai tempi del proibizionismo. Solo in un luogo al mondo poteva succedere...

The GPS tells us that Lynchburg, Tennessee, should be only a kilometer away, but there's not even a trace of the city which made the paper thanks to the legendary Jack Daniel's. Just countryside and hills.  Not even the time to think that "... maybe this is the wrong way" and the small but fascinating Lyncyburg appears in front of us, with its characteristic downtown and its only 6,000 inhabitants. We're in the whiskey paradise, in Mr. Jack Daniel's place. Here, of course, everything comes and goes with that gentleman who founded in 1875 the first distillery registered in the United States, forever changing the history of whiskey. Even the downtown shops are reminiscent of Jack and his famous whiskey, but that's nothing compared to what you will then experience when visiting the distillery. At Majors Blvd's number 1, be sure to visit the small city's visitor center, where you can begin the long journey in the history of the most famous whiskey in the world. Well, Lynchburg County is "dry county", meaning that it is not possible to consume alcohol, a law that has remained intact since the days of prohibition. There's only one place in the world where that could happen...

Just park your car in the huge parking lot located beyond the distillery and take advantage of the free shuttle that will take you in front of the distillery. The advice is to come to the ticket counter at least half an hour before the time you have chosen for the visit and be sure to buy tickets in advance on the website (https://www.jackdaniels.com/it-it/visit-us). Jack Daniel's distillery is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world and a reservation made well in advance is highly recommended, especially in the summer months. Tours are offered every day from 9 am to 4.30 pm, except for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and on Christmas and New Year.

VISIT THE JACK DANIEL'S DISTILLERY. A TRIP INTO HISTORY

The history of Jack Daniel's starts from afar, since 1850 when Jasper Newton Daniel was born. In 1875, after having inherited some money from his father, Daniel invested them and founded his first distillery, but his story changed forever in 1884. And that of whiskey, of course. He bought the land on which the distillery still stands today and started the one that later on became an empire.

La visita guidata alla fabbrica del leggendario Old No. 7, racconta una storia straordinaria: si visitano gli stabilimenti di lavorazione del liquore, insediati dal 1875, fino alla risorgiva scelta da Jasper Newton “Jack” Daniel e ancora oggi utilizzata per la produzione. Se avrete scelto, come noi, il tour completo, sarà un pulmino ad accompagnarvi nella prima area dedicata alla visita, dove la guida vi racconterà come e dove vengono bruciate le cataste di legno di acero per ottenerne il carbone. E’ il primo passo nella creazione del Jack Daniels. Potrete poi ammirare i vecchi mezzi dei pompieri della distilleria che, essendo potenzialmente un luogo pericolosissimo in caso di incendi, possiede una propria unità di vigili del fuoco. 

The guided tour to the legendary Old No. 7 factory tells an extraordinary story: you'll visit the liqueur factories, dated back to 1875 until the resurgence chosen by Jasper Newton "Jack" Daniel and still used today for production. If you select, like us, the complete tour, it will be a minibus to take you to the first area of the tour, where the guide tells about how and where the piles of maple are burned to obtain the coal. It is the first step in the creation of Jack Daniels. You can then admire the old means of transport of the distillery's firefighters. Being potentially a very dangerous place in case of fires, the distillery has its own firefighters unit.

Il tour prosegue nell'ufficio originario di Jack, dove potrete scoprire diversi aneddoti relativi alla sua morte piuttosto assurda, per poi entrare nella vera e propria fabbrica, con gli imponenti silos di mais, segale e di orzo maltato a fare da sfondo.

The tour continues in the original Jack's office, where you can discover several anecdotes related to his quite absurd death, and then enter the real factory, with the imposing silos of corn, rye and malted barley to serve as background.

L'ultima fase è quella dell'imbottigliamento, che viene decisa dal Master Distiller, ovvero l'autorità che decide il momento giusto per l'imbottigliamento del prodotto nella sua inconfondibile bottiglia. Il processo di filtrazione attraverso il carbone è il particolare che differenzia il Jack Daniel's dal bourbon. Dulcis in fundo, ovviamente la degustazione. Prenderete posto in un banco, come a scuola, e testerete i cinque whiskey griffati Jack Daniel's. 

The last stage is bottling, which is decided by the Master Distiller, the authority that decides the right time for bottling the product in its unmistakable bottle. The process of filtration through coal is the particular that differentiates Jack Daniel's from bourbon. Last but not least, of course, the tasting. You will take a seat, like at school, and taste the five Jack Daniel's designer whiskeys.

Prima di lasciare Lynchburg non dimenticatevi di percorrere un breve tratto di una strada secondaria e fermarvi in quella che ad un primo impatto può sembrare una semplice casa. E' qui che ha sede la The Lynchburg Cake and Candy Company (134 Cashion Road), un'azienda a conduzione familiare che produce la famosa The Lychburg Whiskey Cake, le The Lynchburg Whiskey Balls ed il The Lynchburg Praline Pecan. Tutto rigorosamente prodotto con il Jack Daniel's e tutto davvero squisito.

Before leaving Lynchburg do not forget to take a short detour along a back road and stop in what at first glance may seem to be just a house. It is home of The Lynchburg Cake and Candy Company (134 Cashion Road), a family business that produces the famous The Lychburg Whiskey Cake, The Lynchburg Whiskey Balls and The Lynchburg Praline Pecan. All strictly produced with Jack Daniel's and all really delicious.

Gli amanti del buon whiskey non potranno però considerarsi pienamente soddisfatti senza aver visitato un'altra distilleria ed assaggiato un prodotto meno commerciale ma di indubbia qualità. La città da non perdere nel "American Whiskey Trail" è Tullahoma, la distilleria è la George Dickel Tennessee Whisky (Cascade Hollow Rd, Tullahoma). Il Tennessee whisky George Dickel porta il nome whisky invece di whiskey poiché lo stesso Dickel riteneva che la qualità del suo prodotto fosse paragonabile ai migliori Scotch whisky. L'azienda produce il numero 8 ed il numero 12. I tour vengono offerti dal lunedì al sabato al costo di 10 dollari, tasting compreso. L’ultimo alle 15.30.

However, lovers of good whiskey can't be fully satisfied without having visited another distillery and tasted a less commercial but high quality whiskey. The city not to be missed along the "American Whiskey Trail" is Tullahoma and look for the George Dickel Tennessee Whiskey (Cascade Hollow Rd, Tullahoma). The Tennessee whiskey George Dickel bears the term whiskey instead of whiskey since Dickel himself believed that the quality of his product was comparable to the best Scotch whisky. The company produces the number 8 and the number 12. Tours are offered from Monday to Saturday (10 dollars, tasting included). The last one begins at 3.30 pm.

ROAD TO NASHVILLE, LUOGHI DA NON PERDERE

Prima di raggiungere Nashville, distante poco più di un'oretta da Lynchburg, attraverserete la piccola Bell Buckle, il cui downtown non solo è uno dei più carini del Tennessee, ma è anche iscritto nel National Register of Historic Places. 

ROAD TO NASHVILLE, PLACES NOT TO BE MISSED

Before you get to Nashville, just an hour far from Lynchburg, don't miss the small town of Bell Buckle, whose downtown is one of the nicest in Tennessee and registered in the National Register of Historic Places.

E la più grande Murfreesboro, situata proprio alle porte di Nashville. Qui gli appassionati di storia americana potranno fare visita al Stones River National Battlefield (3501 Old Nashville Hwy) che fu teatro nel 1862 di uno dei più sanguinosi conflitti della Guerra Civile (quasi 24.000 morti). Il presidente Lincoln definì il successo a Stones River, "una vittoria duramente guadagnata” e, “che se fosse arrivata una sconfitta, il paese non avrebbe potuto sopravvivere". In alternativa potrete visitare l'Historic Cannonsburgh Village (312 main street), che rappresenta circa 100 anni di vita del Tennessee, dal 1830 al 1930. All'interno del villaggio troverete un mulino, una scuola, la University House, la Leeman House, un museo, un caboose, la cappella per matrimoni, uno studio medico, un emporio, una bottega del fabbro e un pozzo. Le visite autoguidate sono gratuite.

And then the biggest Murfreesboro, located just outside Nashville. Here, fans of American history can visit the Stones River National Battlefield (3501 Old Nashville Hwy) which was in 1862 the scene of one of the bloodiest civil war conflicts (almost 24,000 dead). President Lincoln defined the success at Stones River, "a hard earned victory, which had there been a defeat instead, the nation could scarcely have lived over.". You can also visit the Historic Cannonsburgh Village (312 main street), which represents approximately 100 years of Tennessee life, from 1830 to 1930. There's a mill, a school, the University House, the Leeman House, a museum, a caboose, a wedding chapel, a doctor's office, an emporium, a blacksmith's shop and a well arre located within the village. Self-guided tours are free.

Pensi a Nashville, Tennessee, e subito ti viene in mente la musica. Quella Country in particolare. Un genere poco conosciuto in europa, ma che negli Usa è quasi una religione. Un luogo di pellegrinaggio per gli appassionati, come noi, di una musica che abbiamo imparato a conoscere proprio perché fedele compagna durante i road trip a stelle strisce, conditi da interminabili strade e una delle tante stazioni radio che diffondono solo ed esclusivamente la mitica musica country in sottofondo. Sapevamo che Nashville fosse la "città della musica", ma non avevamo però idea che la si respirasse sostanzialmente ad ogni angolo ed in ogni momento della giornata. La Broadway, l'arteria principale del downtown di Nashville, è vibrante di notte come di giorno e non è raro imbattersi in qualche live show di cantanti più o meno noti nei vari locali che animano il cuore pulsante della città. Totalmente diversa da Memphis, altra "città della musica" è una di quelle città da visitare almeno una volta nella vita. Pardon, da vivere. Perchè Nashville la vivi, non la visiti...

Think about Nashville, Tennessee, and music immediately comes to your mind. Country music in particular. A musical genre little known in Europe, but it's a kind of religion in the US. A place of pilgrimage for fans, like us, of a kind music that we have come to know just because has been faithful companion during the many american road trip, made by endless roads and one of the many radio stations that plays only the legendary country music. We know that Nashville was the "city of music", but we had no idea that we're going to breathe music substantially at every corner and in every moment of the day. The Broadway, the main street of downtown Nashville, is vibrant at night as in the daytime and it is not uncommon to come across any live show of certain level of success singers in the various clubs that animate the beating heart of the city. The visit of the city can only start from its downtown, where history and music create a decidedly fascinating union. As soon as you leave the State Capitol you will officially enter the heart of downtown. Nature and architecture give way to music. At the corner of 5th Avenue N and Union Street, you'll see the Chet Atkins statue, in honor of the first African-American country music singer. This in one of the most distinctive areas of downtown Nashville, Printer's Alley (between 3rd Ave N and 4th Ave N), which became famous mainly because the police were less able to take action and liquor and alcohol was sold and consumed illegally in local areas. You have to know that not only in  Nashville, but throughout Tennessee, alcohol was banned until 1968. You are approaching the Broadway but, before you get to it, you will cross the Downtown Presbyterian Church (154 5th Ave N - Distance: 0.1 mile) along the 5th road. It is one of the largest and best preserved examples of Egyptian-style architecture. It served as a military hospital during the Civil War and the £ 4,000 bell donated by Adelicia Acklen has been the city's fire alarm for over two decades. Not far from the church stands "the mother church of country music", an authentic temple of music. We're obviously talking about the Ryman Auditorium (116 5th Ave N), home of the Grand Ole Opry from 1943 to 1974. Ryman has also been the unofficial auditorium of the city, hosting performances by legends like Caruso and Sarah Bernhardt. Here you finally are along the Broadway. You feel like to walk in full sunlight, while above you stand out the signs of the bars and shops that have made the history of music in the last fifty years. Walking along it towards Cumberland River, you will first cross the historic honky-tonk Tootsie's Orchid Lounge (422 Broadway). The hall, with three stages, hosts live musical performances by local artists every evening and, according to the local tradition, it was right after the performance by Tootsie that Willie Nelson received his first songwriting work. Very close to Tootsie, there's Robert's Western World (416 Broadway), halfway between a honky tonk bar and a cowboy boots shop. There are several local magazines to report it as the best Broadway venue. Distance: 0.1 miles

Tante sono le particolarità del locale che ci ha colpito maggiormente: non solo il fatto che Nudie's sia anche una sartoria artigianale che crea dal 1947 abiti per le star del country e del rock (troverete esposto anche il celebre completo dorato di Elvis), ma anche che possiede il bancone da bar pià lungo della città. Another equally famous venue is Nudie's (409 Broadway), located across the Broadway from Robert's Western World. This is one of the bar that impressed us the most: not only for the fact that Nudie's is also a tailor's shop that creates clothes for the stars of the country and of rock (you'll also find the famous Elvis' golden suit), but also for the longest bar in the city. Da qui avrete una bella visuale sull'At&T Building (333 Commerce St) che, con i suoi 33 piani, è il grattacielo più alto del Tennessee. Gli abitanti di Nashville lo chiamano anche "Batman Building" perché il suo design ricorda la maschera del celebre batman.

From here there's a nice view of the At & T Building (333 Commerce St) which, with its 33 floors, is the tallest skyscraper in Tennessee. The inhabitants of Nashville also call it "Batman Building" because its design recalls the mask of the famous batman.

The downtown Nashville walking tour continues along the 3rd avenue, a right turn that will take you to visit first a very original candy store, the Goo Goo Shop (116th 3rd Ave S) and then especially The Johnny Cash Museum & Cafe ( 119 3rd Ave S: open from 9 to 19, 19.95 dollars), the most famous country music singer. To get back to where you started, the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park, we recommend to follow the Riverfront Park (100 1st Ave N). NASHVILLE IN AUTO, LA ZONA A OVEST DI DOWNTOWN
Per visitare le restanti tre aree della città di Nashville avrete bisogno della vostra auto o, eventualmente, di un mezzo pubblico che vi conduca qui. Dove siamo? Completamente ad ovest di downtown, all'interno del Marathon Village (1305 Clinton St #100), nato sulle ceneri degli edifici che un tempo ospitavano la Marathon Motor Works, la prima fabbrica di automobili del sud degli Stati Uniti. Ora offre ristoranti e negozi, tra i quali spicca l'Antique Archaeology.

You will need your car or, possibly, a public transportation vehicle to visit the remaining three areas of the city of Nashville. Where are we now? Completely west of downtown, within the Marathon Village (1305 Clinton St # 100), born on the ashes of the buildings that once housed the Marathon Motor Works, the first car factory in the southern United States. Now it offers restaurants and shops, the most famous one is the Antique Archeology.

Non lontano dal Marathon Village troverete il Nelson's Green Brier Distillery (1414 Clinton St), una distilleria di whisky fondata nel 1885 da un immigrato tedesco. Nei primi anni di vita la distilleria della capitale produceva 1.400.000 litri di whiskey, superando di gran lunga anche la più celebre Jack Daniel's. Il tour ti porta attraverso il passato, il presente e il futuro di questa storica distilleria, concludendosi nella Tasting Room. (11 dollari).

Not far from the Marathon Village there's the Nelson's Green Brier Distillery (1414 Clinton St), a whiskey distillery founded in 1885 by a German immigrant. In the first years of life the distillery used to produce 1,400,000 liters of whiskey, far exceeding even the most famous Jack Daniel's. The tour takes you through the past, present and future of this historic distillery, ending in the Tasting Room. (11 dollars).

Ancora più ad ovest spicca invece il Partenone (2500 West End Ave). Già, perchè Nashville ospita all'interno del Centennial Park una replica delle stesse dimensioni del Partenone di Atene. È stato il motto di Nashville, l'Atene del Sud (ci vuole un bel po' di immaginazione...), a influenzare la scelta di costruire questo monumento come pezzo rappresentativo della Fiera del 1897.

The Parthenon (2500 West End Ave) stands out further west. We're not kidding, Nashville houses  a replica of the same dimensions as the Parthenon in Athens within the Centennial Park. It was the motto of Nashville, the Athens of the South (it takes a lot of imagination ...), to influence the choice to build this monument as a representative piece of the 1897 Fair.

NASHVILLE IN AUTO, LA ZONA A SUD DI DOWNTOWN
Poco a sud di downtown, vi attendono due icone della musica cittadina. Il primo è lo Station Inn (402 12th Ave S), dove artisti della bluegrass music come Dolly Parton si sono esibiti. Il secondo è Two Old Hippies (401 12th Ave S), un negozio che offre una vastissima selezione di chitarre e molto altro. Nella "The Vault" i clienti possono provare varie chitarre in uno spazio tranquillo. Ancora più a sud, tra la 16th e la 17th Avenue South, la Nashville capitale mondiale della musica offre il meglio di sé. Lungo la celeberrima music row, suddivisa in Music Square East e West, hanno, infatti, sede le più importanti attività commerciali legate al patrimonio musicale della città.

Just south of downtown, two icons of city music await you. The first is the Station Inn (402 12th Ave S), where bluegrass music artists like Dolly Parton performed. The second is Two Old Hippies (401 12th Ave S), a shop that offers a huge selection of guitars and much more. In "The Vault" customers can try various guitars in a quiet space. Further south, between 16th and 17th Avenue South, the Nashville world capital of music offers the best of itself. The famous music row, divided into Music Square East and West, have, is in fact home of the most important commercial activities related to the city's musical heritage.

As we said before, Nashville is not only music. If you are, in fact, looking for a piece of history of the state of Tennessee be sure visit the Belmont Mansion (1700 Acklen Ave), located close to the music row. It was commissioned by Adelicia and Joseph Acklen, who was once among the richest citizens of Nashville, in 1853. Belmont was part of a large country estate and served as a summer retreat for the family who left the Louisiana plantations during the warmer and wetter months.

Sì, chi si dirige a nord di Nashville solitamente è diretto al Grand Ole Orpy (2804 Opryland Drive),  il tempio della musica country. Al suo interno viene prodotto il più antico ininterrotto programma radiofonico degli Stati Uniti, dedicato ovviamente alla musica country. Ogni anno lo show attrae centinaia di migliaia di visitatori da tutto il mondo ed ha un seguito di milioni di ascoltatori via radio e internet. Noi invece abbiamo allungato la strada di poche centinaia di metri, sino al parcheggio di un motel. Dalla parte opposta c'è un museo (gratuito) che ci riporta bambini, una degna conclusione del viaggio in una città stupenda. Siamo da Cooter's Place in Nashville (2613 McGavock Pike B), interamente dedicato ai personaggi della mitica serie tv anni '80 The Dukes of Hazzard. In particolare all'altrettanto mitico Cooter.

Yes, those heading north of Nashville are usually getting to the Grand Ole Orpy (2804 Opryland Drive), the temple of country music. It is the longest running radio broadcast in US history. Dedicated to honoring country music and its history, the Opry showcases a mix of famous singers and contemporary chart-toppers performing country, bluegrass, Americana, folk, and gospel music as well as comedic performances and skit. Every year the show attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world and has a following of millions of listeners via radio and internet. Just few yards after the Grand Ole Orpy, close to a motel parking lot, there's a museum (free of charge) where adults can be kids again, a worthy conclusion of the journey in this beautiful city. We are visiting Cooter's Place in Nashville (2613 McGavock Pike B), a museum entirely dedicated to the characters of the legendary 80s TV series The Dukes of Hazzard. In particular to the equally mythical Cooter.

It's not uncommon to meet series characters at the museum. It traces the entire history of the television show, with memorabilia and much more, such as the legendary cars. From Daisy's jeep to Sheriff Roscoe's police car. And the all-orange Duke brothers car, the General Lee.

NASHVILLE, DOVE MANGIARE?
C'è davvero l'imbarazzo della scelta a Nashville per quanto riguarda i luoghi dove pranzare o cenare.
