This is "Arches day!", one of the most famous and fascinating parks of the United States. After a huge breakfast we are immediately ready to visit the park: our idea is to do the loop with the car (10 dollars) in the morning, stopping at the view points and then come back to the park earlier in the evening to enjoy sunset at Delicate Arch. But along the road we accidentally meet... Mater of "Cars". We are so happy!!!
Ad Arches National Park fa caldo, molto caldo, sin dal mattino presto. E già all'ingresso del parco ce ne accorgiamo, quando troviamo infinità di scritte che spiegano quanta acqua sia consigliato avere con sè lungo il loop e lungo i vari trail. E ne serve davvero tanta, credeteci.
At Arches National Park is hot, very hot, since early morning. And at the park entrance we realize that, when we find countless written that explain how much water is recommended to have with you along the loop and along the various trails. And you really need so much water!
Lungo il loop sono tante le fermate interessanti...

Ma il clou della nostra mattinata è il Double Arches, per noi il più bello tra tutti quelli visti durante la giornata. Dopo aver lasciato la macchina al parcheggio ci avventuriamo in un breve trail che ci porterà direttamente sotto gli archi.
The highlight of our morning is the Double Arches, the most beautiful arch of all those we have seen during the day. After leaving the car at the parking lot we venture into a short trail that take us directly under the arches.
Il gioco luce-colori è davvero impressionante: vorremmo anche fare qualche foto in cima all'arco, ma un paio di "stupidi" turisti lo monopolizzano (nonostante i continui inviti a liberare la zona) rendendoci impossibile il tutto.
Lights and colours are amazing. We would like to make a picture at the top of the arch, but two "stupid" tourists monopolize that area and we are forced to leave it.
Resta comunque bellissimo, tanto che non vogliamo più riprendere il cammino. E' però quasi mezzogiorno e decidiamo di tornare a Moab, per poi fare ritorno al parco nel tardo pomeriggio con l'intenzione di visitare la parte finale del parco, quella per intenderci di Sand Dune e del Delicate Arch. E proprio il Sand Dune Arch sarà uno dei più affascinanti dell'intera giornata...
This arch is beautiful, we don't want to come back to the car. However, it's almost noon and we decide to go back to Moab, then come back to the park in the late afternoon with for the Sand Dune and Delicate Arch. And Sand Dune Arch will be one of the most fascinating of the whole day ...

Il tramonto si avvicina e finalmente stiamo per trovarci faccia a faccia con il Delicate Arch, l'arco più famoso d'America verrebbe da dire, tanto che è raffigurato sulle monetine da 25 centesimi di dollaro. La maggior parte dei visitatori si sta recando lì: già, perchè il "tramonto al Delicate" è una delle cose da non perdere assolutamente. "Ma ci sono quattro chilometri da fare a piedi e noi non riusciamo mai ad assistere ad un tramonto neanche a piangere..." esclamiamo neanche a piangere. Non ci siamo riusciti in dieci giorni in New Mexico, nel cielo più bello del mondo, non ci siamo riusciti neppure a Key West.... e chi se li fa 4 chilometri a piedi per niente? Facciamo dunque il trail light che ci porterà (noi ed altri 20-30 sfaticati come noi) a duecento metri di distanza dall'arco.
The sunset is approaching and finally we are going to be face to face with the Delicate Arch, the most famous arch of America (you can find it on the 25cents coin). The majority of visitors is on his way because the "sunset at Delicate" is one of the things you can't miss in this park. "But it's 4 chilometers by walk and we have never been witnesses of a sunset......" we say. It didn't happen in New Mexico, in one of the most beautiful sky of the world, it didn't happen in Key West... there is nothing to add! "Ok, let's do the light trail that will take us (and others 20-30 lazy people like us) to a hill: from this hill we can see the arch. That's all.
E, proprio mentre stiamo per cominciare ad avere qualche rimpianto, ecco spuntare i nuvoloni neri che copriranno nel giro di una decina di minuti il sole (mentre tre quarti del cielo rimarranno azzurri) impedendo alla luce di colpire l'arco. Niente luce, niente tramonto... Anche stavolta non ci siam smentiti!
And while we are starting to have regrets, the clouds become blacks and cover in a matter of ten minutes the sun (while three-quarters of the sky will remain blue). No light, no sunset ... What did we say about that?
Ah, doveste capitare di voler vedere un tramonto e noi dovessimo essere nei paraggi... beh, auguri!
