Leaving Alamogordo our thoughts are to the heart of New Mexico, Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Our planning is to take the Tramway at Sandia Peak and be in Santa Fe at sunset. We say thank you to our navigator that helps us when a policeman says to us that the road we would like to do is closed. And there aren't a lot of roads in New Mexico...
Arriviamo ad Albuquerque e proseguiamo verso i monti Sandia, è tarda mattinata e vorremmo salire sulla famosa funivia che ti conduce verso la vetta dei monti, da dove è possibile vedere una discreta parte del New Mexico con il cielo limpido che, sfiga, non abbiamo quasi mai trovato.
Going through Albuquerque we arrive at Sandia Peak. Is almost midday and we would like to take the famous tramway and climb the mountain. At the top you can see a little bit of New Mexico, but the sky is cloudy...

Scesi dal Sandia Peak ci rituffiamo in macchina perchè Santa Fe ci aspetta. Decidiamo di allungare il tragitto di qualche miglio (Santa Fe ed Albuquerque distano poco più di un'oretta) per percorrere il famoso Turquoise Trail, una caratteristica Scenic Byway che attraversa città minerarie/fantasma come Cerrillos e Madrid.
After the tour at Sandia Peak it's time to take our car and go through the famous Turquoise Trail, a scenic bways that connects Albuquerque to Santa Fe. We see a lot of ghost towns...

Nel tardo pomeriggio arriviamo a Santa Fe, città unica non solo per i tanti nativi americani che espongono i loro prodotti (turchesi su tutti, ma a prezzi folli...)
Before sunset we are in Santa Fe, a unique city not only because of the native americans that show their products (especially expensive turquoise)
o per lo stile adobe usato nella costruzione di quasi ogni singola casa ed edificio
or because of the adobe style used for almost every buildings
ma anche per la pulizia e l'ordine. Non a caso qui vivono molti newyorkesi e nel complesso parecchi ricchi che si godono la pensione...
but also because it's a tidy and clean city. A lot of rich people that are enjoyng their retirement are living there and also a lot of people from New York City in Santa Fe have their "vacation house"...
Spendiamo in Santa fe un paio di giorni ed ovviamente ne varrà la pena. Siamo "vittime" di un "Flash Flood", tipici del New Mexico e per nulla paragonabili ai nostri temporali (durano un'oretta e si allaga letteralmente tutto, è consigliato anche dai telegiornali locali non uscire di casa, specialmente con l'auto). Capitolo cibo: ormai ci conoscete, siamo dei "mangioni a basso costo" e, se per la prima sera "indoviniamo" grazie al nostro istinto recandoci al cowgirls (eccezion fatta per la solita attesa di un'ora per avere un tavolo, ma ne valeva la pena)...
we spend two days in Santa Fe, the city worth at least couple of days. We are also "victims" of flash flood, but in this area of the States it's not unusual. Let's talk about food: we are big eaters and had great time at "Cowgirls"...
...lo stesso non si può dire per il The Shed, ristorante messicano simbolo di Santa Fe. Ogni guida lo consiglia ed è sostanzialmente obbligatorio prenotare prima, la curiosità è tanta anche se sappiamo non essere "il nostro posto" (troppo famoso, troppo poco "per gente del posto"). I piatti, non malvagi ma neppure buoni, non valgono quello che sul The Shed si dice. Lezione imparata, sarà il nostro unico errore sul cibo di tutto il trip, che come ormai saprete è parecchio focalizzato sulle esperienze culinarie.
but we can't say the same thing for The Shed, a mexican restaurant symbol of Santa Fe. Every guide suggest you to go there (you need to book a table the day before), but the dishes are not as good as you expect.
Prima di lasciare Santa Fe facciamo una brevissima escursione nella città di Los Alamos, dove fu creata e testata la prima bomba atomica...
