Estate 2012, obiettivo East Coast. La seconda volta negli States ci ha portato a visitare la costa che si affaccia sull'oceano atlantico, partendo dai soliti 5 cinque giorni (i primi di sempre per noi) nel Cape Cod per poi partire con il "vero" trip: New York City, Washington Dc e Florida. Il tutto con i nostri splendidi compagni di viaggio Chiara e Raffaele (all'esordio negli States), che ci hanno raggiunto nella grande mela per 14 giorni a stelle e strisce. Il nostro viaggio ha previsto tre voli (milano-boston, washington d.c.- Orlando, Miami - Milano), due spostamenti in bus (utilizzando la compagnia greyhound che fornisce tariffe vantaggiose, 17 dollari per una tratta) di 3 ore e mezza ciascuno (Boston - New York, New York Washington) e noleggio dell'auto ad Orlando con riconsegna a Miami. Insomma, tanta carne al fuoco e, soprattutto a New York, pochissimo tempo da perdere. Dopo la classica ciambella da Dunkin Donuts siamo già in pista...
Summer 2012, the East Coast. The second time in the United States took us to visit the east coast, starting from the usual five days (the first ever for us) in Cape Cod before heading with the "real " trip : New York City , Washington DC and Florida. All this with our super friends Chiara and Raffaele, that joined us in the Big Apple for 14 days in stars and stripes. We planned three flights (milan- boston , washington dc- Orlando, Miami - Milan ), two bus journeys (using the greyhound company that offers affordable costs, $ 17 for one way) 3 and a half hours each ( Boston - New York, New York Washington) and rental car in Orlando and return to Miami. In short, a lot of things to do and see and especially in New York, no time to lose. After the classic donut from Dunkin Donuts we are already on track ...
Come faremo poi per Chigago, dividiamo la città in aree: l'esordio è con la zona più a sud di Manhattan e quindi quella legata alla statua della liberta ed Ellis Island. Alle 8.30 siamo già in biglietteria (ci hanno consigliato di presentarci presto onde evitare di restare...a piedi) per prendere il traghetto che ci porterà prima alla statua della Libertà e poi ad Ellis Island. Noi avevamo prenotato l'escursione dall'Italia (http://www.statueoflibertytickets.com/, costo 20 dollari).
We split the city into areas: we start with the south of Manhattan and at 8:30 am we are already at the ticket office to catch the ferry that will take us first to the Statue of Liberty and then to Ellis Island. e poi via verso Ellis Island, un luogo davvero mistico. E' un isolotto che, dal 1892 al 1954, anno della sua chiusura, è stato il principale punto d'ingresso per gli immigrati che sbarcavano negli Stati Uniti (consigliamo il classico Federico Buffa a partire dal minuto 1.00 per capire cosa Ellis Island ha rappresentato e rappresenta).

e poi verso il World Trade Center, un luogo che non ha bisogno di spiegazioni. Nonostante fosse tutto chiuso e recintato perchè da lì a poco ci sarebbe stato l'anniversario ed erano in corso i lavori, l'emozione è tremenda, fortissima...
and then to the World Trade Center, a place that needs no explanations. Despite everything is closed and fenced because of the anniversary, the emotion is strong...
e ci fermiamo ad ascoltare, con le lacrime agli occhi, il discorso di un signore che stava pulendo una delle targhe commemorative. Ecco, immaginatevi il caos e la confusione che regna a New York e dimenticatela: per un duecento-trecento metri quadrati è tutto diverso. Difficile da spiegare, ma diverso. Fidatevi.

Comincia a piovere, forse non è un caso... Decidiamo di rifugiarci in qualche centro commerciale e clamorosamente scopriamo il "21st century store": qui non si comincia neanche, il miglior posto per fare shopping al mondo, dove puoi comprare una scarpa guess a 9 dollari o una Lacoste a 20. Devi armarti di molta pazienza, ma ne varrà la pena, appena smette di piovere ci dirigiamo verso il ponte di Brooklyn.
It starts raining, perhaps it is not a coincidence ... We decide to take refuge in a mall and discover the "21st century store" the best place to do shopping in the entire world, where you can buy a guess shoes for $ 9 or a Lacoste for 20 dollars. E' ormai sera e siamo davvero stanchissimi tra le lunghissime camminate e il jat lag. Decidiamo, dopo una veloce visita al Madison Square Garden...

di rifugiarci in un pub per cena, dove Marco scoprirà cosa vuol dire quando le alette di pollo (quelle in basso sulla destra) sono hot... Hot vuol dire che la tua bocca ti abbandonerà ben presto e dopo due alette di pollo devi abdicare con tanti saluti... Lezione imparata e il "ma cosa vuoi che sia" non verrà fuori più dalla sua bocca... anche perchè non potrà parlare per un po'!
