Londra, quando la patria del tennis chiama... (day 2)

Il day 2 l'abbiamo dedicato al tennis ed alle Atp World Tour Finals, ma non prima di una veloce sosta da Harrods (apertura ore 10) nel quartiere di Knightsbridge: sì, il famosissimo Harrods che immaginiamo non necessiti di spiegazioni. C'è ovviamente poco da dire sui negozi al suo interno, a meno che non siate miliardari tra brand come Armani, Rolex ecc. varrà il detto "guarda e passa". Decisamente più interessante il reparto cibo: troverete di tutto, dall'asiatico all'indiano: Marco assaggia cibo mediorientale, l'ale sushi e ovviamente un cupcake. I prezzi, almeno qui, sono interessanti...

Day 2 is… the tennis day. It’s time to go to the O2 Arena for the Atp World Tour Finals, but first a quick stop at the world famous Harrods, in the district of Knisghtsbridge. There’s no need to explain what Harrods is, everybody knows about the brands you can find inside this huge mall, but unless you are a milionaire you can just look… more interesting is the food department: you'll find everything, from Asian to the Indian. Marco tastes Middle Eastern food, sushi  for Ale… and of course a cupcake. The prices, at least here, are interesting ...

Sul pomeriggio speso alla O2 Arena invece ci sarebbero tantissime cose da dire. Innanzitutto che l'O2 è un qualcosa di tremendamente moderno, un'arena che non ha alcunchè da spartire con le nostre. Sembra di essere in America, all'interno c'è una vera e propria città con tantissimi ristoranti di ogni tipo e genere. Assistiamo a due partite delle Finals, prima un doppio e poi un singolo, con l'eroe dell'Ale Novak Djokovic impegnato. "Nole" che vincendo la partita si assicurerà anche la prima posizione mondiale al termine della stagione ed abbiamo così la fortuna di assistere anche alla sua premiazione. Sì, siamo in piccionaia (25£ il biglietto), ma il solo esser lì è speciale.

On the afternoon spent at the O2 Arena there would be plenty to say. First, the O2 is something terribly modern. It seems to be in the Us, inside the arena there is a real town with plenty of restaurants of all types and kinds. We watch two matches of the Finals, a double and then a single, with Ale’s hero Novak Djokovic on court. "Nole" wins the match and ensure the number one in the ranking at the end of the season and so we have the fortune to attend to his award. Yes, we are at the top of the stands (£ 25 a ticket), but just being there is special.

Lasciata nel tardo pomeriggio la O2 Arena ci dirigiamo verso la zona di Covent Garden, una delle più affascinanti aree, se non addirittura la più affascinante, di Londra. Negozi e ristoranti ad ogni angolo, anche se va detto è più o meno così ovunque a Londra. E troverete gente davvero ovunque. Scendiamo a Piccadilly Circus, la "Times Square" di Londra e accompagnati dalla folla londinese camminiamo per una ventina di minuti sino a raggiungere Covent Garden. Negozi, boutique, ristoranti e locali caratterizzano il quartiere. Noi siamo li per Shake Shack ovviamente, il secondo motivo per cui abbiamo scelto di spendere il week end a Londra, ma mentre camminiamo scopriamo clamorosamente TGI Friday's...

Leaving the O2 Arena in the late afternoon we head to the Covent Garden area, one of the most fascinating in London. Shops and restaurants on every corner, although it must be said you can find something like this anywhere in London. And you will find people everywhere, really everywhere.  Piccadilly Circus, the "Times Square" of London is our first stop and, accompanied by the London crowd, we walk for about twenty minutes till reaching Covent Garden. Shops, boutiques and restaurants  characterize the district. We are there just for Shake Shack of course, the second reason why we’ve chosen to spend the weekend in London. But while we are walking TGI Friday's appears in front of us…

L'America a è a Londra. E come possiamo non fermarci nel nostro ristorante preferito? P.S. Prima o poi arriverà Tgi Friday's in Italia e nulla sarà più lo stesso in tema di catene di ristoranti american style.

America is in London. And how can we not stop at our favorite restaurant? P. S. Sooner or later TGI will come to Italy and nothing will ever be the same in terms of  “American-style restaurant chains”.

Come digestivo la solita passeggiata che, come sempre succede, si trasformerà in una maratona. L'idea è quella di fermarci al London Eye e salire su questa famosissima ruota panoramica, ma il costo esagerato (29 sterline a testa) ci fa desistere...

Poco male, i colori e le luci sono splendidi anche dal basso e poi... ci sono i mercatini. Decidiamo allora di costeggiare il Tamigi sino a Blackfriars, dove finalmente troviamo la stazione della metro. Anche per oggi abbiamo dato...
