After more than two-thousand miles ( about 3000 km ), many emotions and first times, the trip is almost concluded. The last stage is the enchanting San Diego, land of sea, surfers and also many Italians that take advantage of the climate and tranquility establishing themselves here in search of fortune. We are in the South of California, a handful of miles from Tijuana and then from the border with Mexico that is dominant here.
Non avevamo le idee ben chiare su quello che avremmo trovato, ma dopo l'esperienza di San Francisco avevamo deciso di evitare il city-sightseeing bus, il pulman rosso. Optiamo per l'ingegno, avendo solamente un giorno e mezzo da spendere in città: prendiamo in hotel una mappa con il tragitto che compierebbe il pulman e, con la macchina, raggiungiamo i vari punti d'interesse.
After the experience of San Francisco we decide to avoid the city-sightseeing bus. Having only a day and a half to spend in the city we follow the route of the sightseeing bus but using the car With it we reach the various points of interest.
San Diego è una città molto semplice da visitare, forse solo Boston tra quelle in cui siamo stati (per via del Freedom Trail) è più facile da vivere...

Decidiamo di prendere l'Hotel a Little Italy (non perchè volevamo un po' di Italia, anzi, ma solo perchè vicina sia alla zona nevralgica della città che all'aereoporto)

Old town significa negozietti particolari, ristoranti, souvenir ed ovviamente... Messico. Tutto è messicanizzato.

Prima di chiudere, un passo indietro, all'ultima cena. Andiamo alla Old Town per gustarci una bella cenetta messicana ma, sorpresa, niente alcolici per i due "Bau".
Step back, last evening. We went to the Old Town for a mexican dinner: surprise, no strong drink for the two "Bau".
La cameriera chiama il proprietario, che le tenta tutte per non farci rimanere delusi: "Vi tengo il tavolo, tornate in hotel a prendere il passaporto... mi dispiace moltissimo". Tentiamo la "carta" carta d'identità, estraiamo dal cilindro anche la fotocopia del passaporto, ma non c'è niente da fare. Senza il passaporto originale (lasciato nella valigia in hotel), niente margarita e niente birra. "Se servo alcolici ad un minorenne, domani mi chiudono il locale e ciao licenza" ci farà intendere il proprietario. La "moda" dei documenti falsi in Usa è diffusa e lo sapevamo, ma non ci aspettavamo tanta rigidità. Anche perchè 21anni dovremmo averli compiuti in linea di massima. Questo però ci farà capire che, per dirla facile, "non si scherza per niente". Le regole sono regole. E là le rispettano.
The waitress calls the owner, who tries everything to make us not be disappointed: "I hold the table, if you come back to the hotel to get your passport i will wait... I'm very sorry" he says. We show the identity card, we extract from the cylinder also the photocopy of the passport, but there's nothing to do. Without the original passport (left in the suitcase at the hotel), no margaritas and no beer. Using fake documents in the U.S. is widespread and we knew about, but we did not expect much rigidity. However, this make us understand that, to put it simple, rules are rules. And they respect them.
Ah, niente birra, niente margarita... ma che mangiata!
No beer, no margaritas... but what a dinner!
