Seppur decisamente meno famosa delle "sorelle" Maiorca, Ibiza e Formentera, Minorca è incredibilmente bella. Qui tutto è a portata di mano, le distanze non sono mai importanti e, ovunque ti giri, troverai qualcosa di splendido. Dalle calette con acqua caraibica alla natura incontaminata dei parchi naturali e dei canyons, passando per la storia millenaria che ha portato Romani, Greci, Cartaginesi, Inglesi e persino Arabi nel corso dei secoli ad abitare l’isola, condizionandone la cultura e lasciando segni indelebili sparsi sull'isola. E poi le città, le due principali, ovvero Mahon e Ciutadela, e poi le più piccole, i villaggi di pescatori dove si respira un'aria completamente diversa, meno frenetica e decisamente affascinante. A dir la verità noi la maschera vorremmo gettarla subito, prima ancora di iniziare il racconto dell'isola, dicendovi subito che a noi Minorca è piaciuta tantissimo, tanto da rimpiangere sin dal primo giorno sull'isola, di aver speso solo tre giorni pieni esplorandone le bellezze. E anche il racconto questa volta sarà un po' diverso, non sarà un diario di viaggio vero e proprio, bensì una serie di post (3) in cui vi elencheremo la nostra personalissima classifica delle migliori spiagge, le migliori città da visitare ed ovviamente le più belle cose da fare a Minorca. No, non ci siamo dimenticati dell'itinerario dei tre giorni: questo ve lo raccontiamo subito, sviscerando in lungo ed in largo poi ogni singolo luogo visitato durante i tre post davvero da non perdere.

While decidedly less famous than its "sisters" Maiorca, Ibiza and Formentera, Menorca is incredibly beautiful. Everything here is so close by, distances are short, and everywhere you look, you will find something amazing. From the coves with Caribbean water to the unspoiled nature of the natural parks and canyons, from the thousands of years of history that brought Romans, Greeks, Carthaginians, English and even Arabs over the centuries to inhabit the island, conditioning its culture and leaving indelible marks scattered across the island. And then the towns, the two main ones, namely Mahon and Ciutadela, and then the smaller ones, the fishing villages where you can breathe a completely different air, less hectic and definitely charming. To tell the truth, before we even begin the tale of the island, we would like to tell you that we really enjoyed the entire island of Menorca. So much that we regretted from the very first day on the island that we could spent only three full days exploring its beauties. At this time, also the posts will be a little different: it won't be a travel diary, but rather a series of posts (3) in which we will list our very personal ranking of the best beaches, the best towns to visit and of course the most beautiful things to do in Menorca. No, we have not forgotten about the three-day itinerary: we will tell you about that right away and then we'll talk about every place visited during the three posts.

COSA VEDERE A MINORCA IN TRE GIORNI
Con la doverosa premessa che tre giorni sono un po' pochini per esplorare interamente l'isola di Minorca, noi siamo comunque riusciti a visitare quasi tutto quello che ci eravamo prefissati di vedere, scegliendo di utilizzare come base per gli spostamenti Ciutadela, preferita alla capitale Mahon. Nella prima giornata ci siamo dedicati, dopo aver lasciato l'aeroporto, alla splendida e caratteristica Binibequer Vell, alla capitale Mahon ed infine alla spiaggia di Cala Turqueta. Decisamente più intensa la giornata numero due, con il nord dell'isola ad essere protagonista. E quindi la natura del parco naturale S'Albufera des Grau, il bellissimo faro Favaritx, il villaggio di pescatori di Es Fornells ed infine l'highlight del viaggio, Cala Pregonda. Nella terza ed ultima giornata spazio ancora alla natura con il canyon di Algendar, la collina più alta dell'isola (Monte Toro) e le bellissime calette Cala Macarella e Cala Macarelleta.

WHAT TO SEE IN MINORCA IN THREE DAYS
With the dutiful premise that three days are not enough to explore all the island of Menorca, we still managed to visit almost everything we had set out to see. We stayed in Ciutadela, preferred to the capital Mahon. On the first day, after leaving the airport, we visited the beautiful and characteristic Binibequer Vell, the capital Mahon and finally the beach of Cala Turqueta. The day number two was definitely more intense, with the north of the island. And so the nature of the S'Albufera des Grau natural park, the beautiful Favaritx lighthouse, the fishing village of Es Fornells and then the highlight of the trip, Cala Pregonda. On the third and final day, space again for nature with the Algendar canyon, the highest hill on the island (Monte Toro) and the beautiful Cala Macarella and Cala Macarelleta coves.

LE 5 MIGLIORI SPIAGGE DI MINORCA
1) Cala Pregonda
Noi non siamo appassionati di mare, spiagge e tutto ciò che ne consegue. Ma raramente abbiamo trovato, almeno in Europa, una spiaggia che possa tenere testa alla favolosa e remota Cala Pregonda. A differenza di molte delle spiagge che caratterizzano Minorca, Cala Pregonda si trova a nord, non lontano dal villaggio di pescatori di Es Fornells, dal Monte Toro e dalla città di Es Mercadal. È una spiaggia di sabbia rossa immersa in un ambiente selvaggio, dove la civiltà ha lasciato spazio alla natura più incontaminata, con il Camis de Cavalls a fare da sfondo, ovvero un sentiero che corre lungo la costa di Minorca per tutta la sua lunghezza, ben 85 km.
THE 5 BEST BEACHES IN MINORCA
1) Cala Pregonda
We are not fans of the sea, beaches and all that goes with them. But we have rarely found, at least in Europe, a beach that can stand up to the fabulously remote Cala Pregonda. Unlike many of the beaches that characterize Menorca, Cala Pregonda lies to the north, not far from the fishing village of Es Fornells, Monte Toro and the town of Es Mercadal. It is a red sand beach immersed in a wild environment, where civilization has given way to the most unspoiled nature, with the Camis de Cavalls as a backdrop: it is a path that runs along the entire length of Menorca's coastline, a good 85 kilometers.
Per arrivarci dovrete seguire con la vostra auto il Cami de Tramuntana (un vento che qui è decisamente presente) se provenite da Es Fornells oppure il Camì de Montpalau se state provenendo da Es Mercadal. Entrambi poi confluiranno nel Camì de Binimel - là, la strada sterrata che conduce al parcheggio del sentiero verso Cala Pregonda. Il vostro punto di riferimento sarà il ristorante Binimel-la perchè è da qui che prende il via il sentiero (parte del Camì de Cavalls) che porta alla caletta.
To get there, visitors will have to follow with their car the Cami de Tramuntana (a kind of wind that is definitely present here) if they are coming from Es Fornells or the Camì de Montpalau if they are coming from Es Mercadal. Both will then merge into the Camì de Binimel-there, the dirt road that leads to the parking lot where the trail to Cala Pregonda begins. Your reference point will be the Binimel-la restaurant because this is where the trail (part of the Camì de Cavalls) that leads to the cove starts.
Mai come questa volta il viaggio, di circa 30 minuti, vale forse anche più della caletta stessa. Il percorso, semplice, è immerso tra rocce di colore rosso, molto simili a quelle che trovereste nel west americano, completamente diverso dal sud dell'isola dove ogni spiaggia è contornata da pinete verdi. Prima di arrivare a Cala Pregonda incrocerete la sua "sorellina", ovvero Cala Pregondò, poi dopo una breve salita sarete in grado di ammirare dall'alto la spiaggia rosso-dorata di Cala Pregonda.
Never like this time, the trip, about 30 minutes long, worth perhaps even more than the cove itself. The easy trail is nestled among red rocks, very similar to those you would find in the American West, completely different from the south of the island where every beach is surrounded by green pine forests. Before arriving at Cala Pregonda you will cross its "little sister," or Cala Pregondò, then after a short climb you will be able to admire the red-gold beach of Cala Pregonda from above.
Perchè è la più bella? Per la sabbia, per l'acqua bassa e di un azzurro incredibile... e poi perchè verso la fine di maggio c'erano non più di 20 persone. Durante l'estate munitevi di acqua e protezioni dal sole perchè sia in spiaggia che durante il percorso, non troverete alcun albero. Unico piccolo difetto, l'acqua è più fredda rispetto al versante sud.
Why is it the most beautiful? Because of the sand, because of the shallow and incredibly blue water... and then because towards the end of May there were no more than 20 people on that beach. During the summer, equip yourself with water and protection from the sun because you will not find any trees and shades both on the beach and on the trail. Only one small flaw, the water is colder than on the south side of the island.
2) Cala Macarelleta & Cala Macarella
Se Cala Pregonda non è così famosa, queste due spiagge situate una vicina all'altra lo sono. Eccome se lo sono. Tanto che noi, a maggio e quindi con ancora poca affluenza di turisti sull'isola, non abbiamo potuto raggiungere con la nostra auto il parcheggio dedicato e ripiegato su quello di Cala Turqueta. Dove siamo? a sud dell'isola, non lontano da Ciutadela. E' qui che si trovano quasi tutte le spiagge più famose di Minorca tra cui anche Cala Macarella e Cala Macarelleta.
2) Cala Macarelleta & Cala Macarella.
If Cala Pregonda is not so famous, these two beaches located close to each other are very very popular. So much so that we could not reach the dedicated parking lot with our car and fell back on the one in Cala Turqueta. And it was May and therefore with still few tourists on the island, We are south of the island, not far from Ciutadela. This is where almost all of Menorca's most famous beaches are located including Cala Macarella and Cala Macarelleta.
Noi, tuttavia, come già anticipato non possiamo raccontarvi del tratto che dal parcheggio conduce alle due calette, bensì del tratto, splendido, di Camì de Cavalls che abbiamo dovuto percorrere per raggiungere le spiagge provenendo dal parcheggio di Cala Turqueta. Con il senno di poi, se avrete voglia di camminare per circa 2.6 km (5.2 considerato anche il ritorno), ve lo consigliamo. Lasciate l'auto al parcheggio di Cala Turqueta, raggiungete la spiaggia e seguite il Camì de Cavalls sino alle due spiagge.
However, as already mentioned, we cannot tell you about the stretch that leads from the parking lot to the two coves, but rather about the splendid stretch of Camì de Cavalls that we had to walk to reach the beaches coming from the Cala Turqueta's parking lot. Anyway, with hindsight, if you feel like walking about 2.6 km (5.2 roundtrip), we recommend it. Leave your car at the Cala Turqueta parking lot, walk to the beach and follow Camì de Cavalls to the two beaches.
Cala Macarella non è così bella: l'acqua diventa subito profonda ed abbiamo trovato anche diverse alghe. Qui però sono presenti tutti i servizi, tra cui un ristorante, un bar ed il bagno. Il tratto di sentiero sopraelevato che collega Macarella e Macarelleta è un qualcosa di incredibile: la vista dall'alto sull'acque turchese limpidissima è davvero tutta da gustare.
Cala Macarella is not so beautiful: the water quickly becomes deep and we also found several algae. Here, however, there are all the facilities, including a restaurant, a bar and the bathroom. The section of the elevated path that connects Macarella and Macarelleta is something incredible: the view from the top over the crystal-clear turquoise waters is really to be enjoyed.
Le foto più belle del viaggio le scatterete sicuramente qui. Impiegherete 5 minuti a passare da una spiaggia all'altra, ma molto probabilmente è a Cala Macarelleta che vi fermerete. Essendo protetta, infatti, dalle correnti, regala un mare di color turchese, cristallino e con fondali sabbiosi che lo rendono un vero paradiso per gli amanti del bagno al mare. Qui, infatti, è dove abbiam trovato l'acqua più calda in assoluto nell'isola.
You will definitely take the most beautiful photos of the trip right here. It takes just five minutes to go from one beach to another, but you most likely stop at Cala Macarelleta. Being protected, in fact, from currents, it offers a sea that is definitely turquoise, crystal clear and with sandy bottoms that make it a true paradise for lovers of sea bathing. Here, in fact, is where we found the warmest water ever in the island.
3) Cala Turqueta
Cala Turqueta è stato il nostro approccio con il mare di Minorca. Abbiamo scelto di iniziare con la più famosa in assoluto, anch'essa situata nel versante sud non lontano da Ciutadela. Dal parcheggio, superato il chioschetto (l'unico nell'area), potrete raggiungere la spiaggia scegliendo 3 brevi sentieri (20 minuti di camminata) segnalati con tre colori diversi. Due seguono la boscaglia, uno, il più gettonato, una mulattiera che conduce direttamente alla spiaggia.
3) Cala Turqueta
Cala Turqueta was our approach to the sea in Menorca. We've chosen to start with the most famous by far, likewise located on the south side not far from Ciutadela. From the parking lot, close to the kiosk (the only one in the area), follow one of the 3 short paths (20-minute walk) marked with three different colors that lead to the beach. Two of them follow the bush, one, the most popular, is a mule track that leads directly to the beach.
Larga poco più di 100 metri e circondata da una vegetazione rigogliosa, presenta una sabbia finissima e bianchissima ed il colore dell'acqua è davvero turchese, come si evince dal nome. Inoltre l'acqua è davvero pulita, tanto che abbiamo notato non meno di una decina di meduse che nuotavano lungo la riva.
It's just over 100 meters wide and surrounded by lush vegetation. But it also offers a very fine white sand and the color of the water is really turquoise, as the name implies. In addition, the water is really clean, so much so that we noticed no less than a dozen jellyfish swimming along the shore.
A Cala Turqueta l’acqua è tiepida e incredibilmente limpida e la sabbia non ha nulla da invidiare ai paradisi caraibici. Inoltre la totale assenza di alberghi o abitazioni turistiche insieme con il verde che la circonda, ti regaleranno una sensazione di pace e armonia che solo la natura allo stato puro sa dare. Come per Cala Macarelleta, consigliamo di arrivare al parcheggio non più tardi delle 10 perchè il rischio di non trovare posto è altissimo. Il parcheggio dista dalla spiaggia circa 900 metri.
At Cala Turqueta the water is warm and incredibly clear and the sand is nothing to envy to Caribbean paradises. In addition, the total absence of hotels or tourist housing along with the greenery that surrounds it, gives you a feeling of peace and harmony that only nature in its pure state can give. As with Cala Macarelleta, we recommend to get to the parking lot no later than 10 a.m. because the risk of not finding a spot is very high. The parking lot is located about 900 meters from the beach.
4) Cala Galdana
Le ultime due spiagge non le abbiamo visitate per mancanza di tempo, ma ci eravamo preparati attentamente e per questo ci sentiamo di raccomandarvele ugualmente se avrete a disposizione più giorni sull'isola di Minorca. Cala Galdana è la spiaggia più grande di tutta l’isola ed è sicuramente la più attrezzata. Qui potrete, infatti, trovare l'ombra dei pini ed affittare anche un ombrellone. Se doveste viaggiare con bambini al seguito è decisamente la più adatta.
5) Cala Mitjana
Cala Mitjana è una piccola spiaggia (100 metri) di sabbia bianca dall'aspetto decisamente caraibico. Coperta alle spalle da una bellissima pineta, ha saputo, come Cala Turqueta e Cala Macarella, resistere al proliferare di strutture ricettive, garantendosi ancora quell'aspetto paradisiaco che invece Cala Galdana sta perdendo con il tempo.
4) Cala Galdana
We have not visited the last two beaches due to lack of time, but we had studied them very carefully. This is why we would like to recommend them anyway, especially if you've more days to spend on the island of Menorca. Cala Galdana is the largest beach on the whole island and is certainly the best equipped. Here you can find, in fact, the shade of the pines and also rent a beach umbrella. If you are traveling with children, it is definitely the most suitable.
5) Cala Mitjana
Cala Mitjana is a small beach (100 meters wide) made of white sand with a decidedly Caribbean look. Covered behind by a beautiful pine forest, it has been able, like Cala Turqueta and Cala Macarella, to resist the proliferation of accommodation facilities: it still guarantees that paradisiacal aspect that Cala Galdana is definitely losing over time.
