New York City, Cape Cod and... "The Real America" (day 3-4)

Il day 3, l'ultimo nella grande mela, è il giorno del musical a broadway, grazie alla nostra splendida amica Alex ad al suo fidanzato Paul che non solo ci hanno raggiunto a New York, ma regalato una serata che difficilmente dimenticheremo. La mattinata intanto si era aperta con tanta carne al fuoco e, come sempre pochissimo tempo a disposizione. E' il momento delle scelte e, quindi, rinunciamo a malincuore all'Highline Park per dirigerci a ridosso dell'East River. Il motivo? Semplice, grazie a al programma televisivo "Donnavventura" abbiamo scoperto l'esistenza di una funivia che collega Manhattan con la "piccola" Roosevelt Island, un'isola che si trova nel bel mezzo dell'East River, non lontano dal Queens.

Day 3, the last in the Big Apple. Today is the "Musical day" (we are so excited) at Broadway, thanks to our wonderful friend Alex and his boyfriend Paul. They joined us in New York and gave us an evening that we will hardly forget, so we decided not to do Highline Park and go to the East River. Why? Because we discovered that there is a cable car that connects Manhattan with the "small" Roosevelt Island, an island located in the middle of the East River, not far from Queens. 

Per chi possiede la Metrocard (il biglietto della metro) la corsa è gratuita. Ne approfittiamo e nel giro di poco meno di cinque minuti siamo a Roosevelt Island.

For those who have the Metrocard (the metro ticket) the ride is free. We take the opportunity and within a little less than five minutes we are at Roosevelt Island.

Ecco, la parte divertente resta la funivia... perchè Roosevelt Island non è che offra poi tantissimo se non una carina visuale su Manhattan.

Well, the funny part is the tramway... because Roosevelt Island is not so nice except a nice view of Manhattan.

Giusto il tempo di un caffè e siamo pronti a tornare a Manhattan.

Just a coffee and then we are ready to come back to Manhattan.

Lasciata l'isola di Roosevelt ci dirigiamo verso World Trade Center, dove si respira un'aria sempre diversa. Nel 2012, quando per la prima volta abbiamo visitato la Grande Mela, il Memorial dell'11 Settembre non era ancora pronto. Ora c'è tutto, ci siamo. Le due fontane che hanno preso il posto delle due torri, con i nomi di tutte le persone decedute sono bellissime...

Leaving Roosevelt Island we head towards World Trade Center, where the atmosphere is always different. In 2012, when we visited for the first time the Big Apple, the 9/11 Memorial was not ready yet. Now here we are The two fountains that replaced the twin towers, with the names of all the dead people. are beautiful and so impressive... 

ma è il silenzio che regna in una città dove il rumore la fa da padrone a fare la differenza.

but it's the silence that reigns in a city where the noise is everywhere. 

Grazie ad Alex e Paul visitiamo il museo del 9/11 che, ovviamente, ci lascia senza parole. Filmati, testimonianze, resti delle torri o dei camion dei pompieri... per tutta la giornata non riusciremo a toglierci dalla mente il museo tanto forte è stata la scossa che abbiamo ricevuto. Anche noi, che di solito facciamo migliaia di foto, per una volta ci siamo dimenticati della macchina fotografica...

Thanks to Alex and Paul ee visit the 9/11 museum which, of course, leaves without words. Movies, testimonials, remains of the towers or of the fire truck ... throughout the day you are not able to take away the museum from your mind. We usually do thousands of photos, for this time we forget that we have the camera ...

Solo il pensiero di quello che avremmo visto la sera ci toglie un po' di tristezza di dosso. Arrivano le 20 ci dirigiamo verso Times Square che, come tutte le ore del giorno si presenta così...

Just the thought of what we are going to see tonight takes away a bit of sadness. At 8pm we head to Times Square...

E' il "The Lion King Day". Assisteremo, infatti, per la prima volta ad uno spettacolo a Broadway. Ed è sin dai tempi de "La Tata" e del "Signor Sheffield" che ci chiediamo... "ma come saranno questi musical?". Ora abbiamo la risposta...

Today is "The Lyon King Day". We are going to watch a Broadway's musica!! Since we were young and saw on tv "The Nanny" and "Mr. Sheffield"we have been wondering... "how are this musical?". Now we have the answer ... 

Il famosissimo cartone animato viene rappresentato come meglio non si potrebbe: costumi, scenografia, dialoghi... tutto veramente bellissimo. Grazie Alex e Paul.

La giornata successiva, il day 4, è di puro trasferimento. Da New York City a Cape Cod, nel Massachusetts, attraversando gli stati di New York, Connecticut e Rhode Island (3 ore di macchina). In realtà le sorprese non sono ancora finite, perchè prima di raggiungere il Cape ci fermeremo nella bellissima cittadina di Astoria (Queens, New York) per un brunch con il cugino di Alex e la sua fidanzata.

The next day (day 4), is a transfer-day. From New York City to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, passing through the states of New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island (3 hours drive). But surprises are not finished yet. Before going to Cape Cod we stop in the beautiful town of Astoria (Queens, New York) for a brunch with Alex cousin and his girlfriend.
