XMAS in Florida (day 6, Naples)

Il viaggio, mai come questa volta, è un appuntamento al buio. Farà caldo? Farà freddo? Potremo stare in spiaggia? Avevamo tantissimi dubbi al riguardo complici i pareri discordanti che avevamo trovato sia in internet sia tra i conoscenti che avevano visitato la Florida in dicembre. Anche con tutti i dubbi del caso non avevamo comunque voluto rischiare ed una giornata intera nella Naples che ci era tanto piaciuta durante la nostra prima volta in Florida (mare limpido e temperatura stile vasca da bagno) l'abbiamo inserita.

The trip, this time, is like a blind date. Will it be hot? Will it be cold? Could we stay on the beach? We had many doubts about the weather in Florida in december, because of the different opinions that we had found on the internet and got from friends of who had been in Florida. Anyway Even with all the doubts we did not want to take any risk and a full day in Naples when we planned the trip has been a "must" because we really enjoyed this town during our first appearance in Florida in 2012.

E tra le tante spiagge che caratterizzano Naples abbiamo scelto, ascoltando il consiglio della receptionist, il Clam Pass Beach Park, a metà tra un parco naturale (tipico in Florida) ed una spiaggia incontaminata che tanto ci piacciono.

And among all the beaches of Naples we choose, listening to the advice of the receptionist, the Clam Pass Beach Park. It's a natural park and a natural beach, a mixture we appreciate so much.

Paghiamo gli otto dollari del parcheggio e in un amen siamo catapultati in una splendida foresta di mangrovie.

We pay the parking fee (8 dollars) and after a while we are walking in a beautiful mangrove forest

A disposizione dei visitatori c'è anche un golf cart navetta per raggiungere la spiaggia, noi preferiamo almeno per l'andata percorrere i tre quarti di miglio (poco più di un chilometro) a piedi lungo il boardwalk tra paludi, canali ed una vegetazione davvero imponente.

You can choose to walk on the boardwalk (less than 1 mile) between canals, swamps and a huge vegetation or take a free ride on the golf cart shuttle. We prefer to walk.

Facciamo subito amicizia, lungo il percorso, con un anziano signore che oltre a raccontarci della sua vita, ci spiega essere un "designatore di State Park", ovvero dei parchi statali.

During the walk, we immediately become friends with an old gentlemam who tells us alla bout his life, in particularly about his job: he is a State Park designer. Amazing.

Ne ha scoperti e creati diversi, un personaggio incredibile...tanto incredibile che, non appena arrivati in spiaggia, ci porta all'interno del parco a stretto contatto con gli animali che la popolano.

During his career he has created a lot of State Park, and incredible character... as soon as we arrive at the beach he takes us inside the park, close to all the animals that live there. He is our personal guide inside the park!

Dai più piccoli ai più grandi.

From the smallest to the largest.

Il mare è lo stesso che ricordavamo, l'acqua è cristallina, rispetto al mese di agosto l'unica differenza è che è decisamente fredda.

The sea is the same sea we left two years ago: the water is crystal clear, the only difference between august and december is the temperature. It's pretty cold.

Rispetto a Miami e, soprattutto Key West, fare il bagno qui è un po' proibitivo.

Comparing to Miami and especially Key West, take a bath here is a bit prohibitive.

Restiamo in spiaggia sino alle 14, poi raggiungiamo prima il "The Village on Venetian Bay" per un giretto nei negozi "oceanfront"...

We leave the beach at 2pm. The next stages are The Village on the Venetian Bay" for a walk among the oceanfront shops...

e poi il "pier", con la sua affollatissima spiaggia.

and then to the pier, with its crowded beach.

Lasciato il "pier" proseguiamo lungo la third street: anche qui negozi e ritmi lenti, una passeggiata è doverosa.

Leaving the "pier" we head to the third street: even here shops and slow rhythms are the symbols, a walk in this area is a must.

Tornati in hotel solita "americanata" che ogni volta continua a sorprenderci nonostante ormai siano cose che vediamo costantemente accadere in ogni nostro viaggio a stelle e strisce. Marco è in camera a guardarsi un po' di Nba, l'Ale è nella "laundry" del nostro hotel (La Quinta) dove ci sono due lavatrici e altrettante asciugatrici. E mentre sta piegando i nostri vestiti ed è pronta a salire in camera, entra una coppietta ed esclama. "Ma hai piegato tu tutta la nostra roba? (e vi assicuriamo che era tanta!)". "No, sono appena entrata" replica l'ale... Cos'è successo quindi? Una signora che aveva bisogno dell'asciugatrice, ha tolto quelli della coppietta ed ha inserito i suoi come fanno sostanzialmente tutti. Fin qui tutto normale, meno il fatto di aver piegato e sistemato tutti i capi tolti dall'asciugatrice stessa. Saremo ripetitivi e a volte siamo fin troppo esagerati con il buonismo nei confronti dell'America e degli americani perchè ne siamo innamorati, ma sulla gentilezza di queste persone, indipendentemente che siate a nord o a sud, a est piuttosto che a ovest, è incredibile. Per la cena decidiamo di tornare alla Sin City, nello stesso ristorante (Pinchers, una catena) in cui eravamo stati due anni prima.

Back to the hotel, as usual, we are present at the usual "american incredible situation" that always is a surprise for us even if it shouldn't. Marco is in the room watching Nba basketball, Ale is in the laundry of out hotel (La Quinta) where there are two washing machine and two dryers. As soon as she is ready to leave the room, a man and a woman enter and say to Ale: "Have you folded our stuff? (we assure there were a lot of clothes!). "No, i've just taken my stuff and i'm going to leave" Ale says. "What happened in here then?"... A woman who needed the dryer, removed all the stuff inside it and took care of them. She folded more than 30 clothes as if they were hers.... unbelievable. Sometimes, maybe because we are in love with America and Americans, you could think we ham it up... but the truth is that the american kindness is incredible, it doesn't matter if you are on the east coast or on the west coast, in the north or in the south! We decide to go back to Sin City and dine at the same restaurant (Pinchers) where we have been two years ago.

Ovviamente, essendo sul mare, optiamo per il pesce e quindi una zuppa alla polpa di granchio e degli ottimi calamari fritti con patatine e pane all'aglio.

Obviously, being close to the sea, we opt for a fish-dinner and then a crab soup and and an excellent fried calamari dish with french fries and garlic bread.

Finalmente l'Ale non ha il "richiamo della numero 1" e possiamo dunque fare anche un giro lungo la 5th avenue, la strada principale di Naples, con boutique, locali e ristoranti. E' l'occasione giusta per respirare un pizzico di aria natalizia...

Finally Ale's hasn't to do "the number 1" then we can go for a walk along the 5th avenue, the main street of Naples, with shops, boutiques and restaurant. It's the right occasion to breathe a little bit of christmans air...
