The old wild... Southwest - Summer 2015 (day 1-2, Milan - Phoenix)

It has been a very long trip. We saved a lot of money but it took exactly two days to reach Phoenix, Arizona, where the first stage of our on the road started: the first day we did Milan - Luxemburg, the day after Luxemburg - London and London - New York and then another five hour flight to Phoenix. With a kind of "flash forward" let's begin the story from New York's JFK Airport: it's evening and we've just landed on American soil. We need to stay close to the airport because tomorrow morning, very soon, we will fly to Phoenix. Hotels in New York, as you know, are very expensive, even if you're not staying in Manhattan. We opt for the "cheaper"  JFK Inn and while we are waiting for the pick uf service, in front of us we notice Clarence Seedorf, a former soccer player: just the time for the usual photo and we see him get on a super shuttle that will take him to a luxury hotels. And us? Our shuttle comes just thirty seconds later... a destroyed van, of course. It's late and we are very very tired: "Is this going to Jkf Inn?" Marco asks. "Yes" is the answer. That's enough!

We've missed out "loved" horror motels, seriously a lot! Here's one: behind a room a throw of school buses. Now we can really say that we are in our beloved America.

drop charge. Per l'ennesima volta: rental car vs noi: 2 a 0.

Another flash forward, also because the real journey will begin in two days, when we leave Phoenix. We are at the "rental car" in Phoenix: well, the "rental car" with whom we always lose our "battles". We've chosen "Dollar" for the first time because of the price ($ 350 for 11 days) and especially because it did not force us to pay the one-way fee (called drop charge) due to the fact that we would have returned the car in Las Vegas and Phoenix. The sales man as usually tries to sell us the usual insurances or upgrading because "it's dangerous driving in Las Vegas desert with a mid-sized car" ... We resist and resist but in the end we collapse while we are picking up the car. We've booked an "intermediate" car (mid size), but they are actually giving us an "economy". We are too tired to discuss when she says "rules are changed"... So  let's go back to the counter and accept the upgrade ($ 200) to a higher class. Moral of the story? The rental car will cost $ 500, the same price offered by other companies ($ 500) with the drop charge included. As always rental car versus us: 2-0

We are in Phoenix. It's 2 pm and we are hungry: first stop is Taco Bell..

"Adesso scendo e faccio casino in reception". Marco esulta... "domani colazione gratis, bacon e uova a volontà. Evvai!". Good job Ale: noi vs incidenti di percorso 2-0, come sempre!

And then straight to the Hotel (four points by Sheraton), a high level hotel despite the affordable price. We would like to recover a little bit of energy and this should be the right moment even because there's substantially nothing to do in Phoenix (we don't like museums). The pool is not available because of a private party and the classic Arizona's 110 degrees doesn't match with the closed pool. Fortunately we can use the swimming pool of a hotel next to the Sheraton, but there'll still be problems even during the night. The party, in fact won't end in the pool. At 3 am, in the room, the "party animals" are still making noise. Ale goes to the reception, while Marco is having fun. Why? Because he already knows that we would have earned a free breakfast coupon. After ten minutes Ale is back: "Marco, we have a new room and a free breakfast coupon". Good job Ale! As always us versus mishaps: 2-0!

The previous evening, meanwhile, we tested the first of many places of our list: the "Toby Keith I love this bar". Toby Keith is one of the favorite Marco's singers.

Atmosphere is obviously American and "i love this bar"  style (one of the best, Toby Keith's song: you should listen to it at least once beacuse in this song there is there's the real atmosphere you'll find in a caountry bar - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Fulz4ytZ54): old and young, couples and singles, veterans and adventurers ...

The food we missed the most? Chicken wings and burger... There's no need to say what we ate that evening, one of the best meal of the trip.

"It ain't too far, come as you are... i love this bar" - Toby Keith.
